Just wondering has anyone had a sort of remission where at nights there is actually saliva in their mouths??? My mouth is seemingly much better much of the time even though my eyes are still terrible - - - -any ideas??

Every once in a while in the middle of the night I will awaken to find myself drooling. I am like YEAH! Then it's gone. It just reminds me of how nice it was to have sufficient saliva.

I don't have any saliva and I have to drink water after each bite of food. I can't talk very long because it is too irritating to the throat.
I use Oral Balance at night to coat my tongue as it keeps my throat from becoming so dry and I don't have to drink water thru the night and that keeps me out of the bathroom.
I have a hard time taking Evoxac, Saligen, Pilacarpine as my heart turns flips and I become extremely weak. I shake and shiver till my teeth chatter.
I would love a mouthful of spit.
I doooooo love it - - I'm just wondering if it's a remission or just some strange thing that happens from time to time???

I'm very happy for you voiceteacher but....I didn't think that SJS went into remission like RA does?? If I'm wrong please tell me because I'll be thrilled if us SJS people can actually have periods of remission!!!
I notice I have more saliva if I'm singing. I was thinking this while reading this post then notice a post from voiceteacher. Voiceteacher....is that possible?
BillyDude, I'm not sure - - when I sing it gets much worse within just a few sentences because my mouth gets dried out from the intake of air - - however, each of us responds differently to this whole thing so I suppose it's possible. As for remission - - my dr told me that it does happen with sjogrens - - it's rare but it can happen. What's strange is that it feels like I have saliva at times but then last night I was talking with a friend and she noticed I didn't have saliva and offered me a drink - - I hadn't noticed that it was so terrible because I'm used to it - - - I guess it's not really a remission for me but for some reason I am having more saliva at times. Also -- my lips have never been drier - - go figure.
This is a very strange disease that not only keeps giving, it keeps changing!! Just when you think you have it figured out, you don't!
Here's another strange thing- - - - does anyone have really dry skin? My skin has always been soft and I do use lotion after each shower. However, my hands are extremely dry - so much so that I have red spots on one hand and the palm itches and when I scratch it, it peels - - -sooooo sore - - -- I never had that before - - I'm 50 years old and never had this happen - - -any ideas?? I'm using eucerin in a tub. My friend's dermo told her to use it on her FACE!!!! It's like a tub of crisco - - - the dr said only the eucerin in a tub, not a tube or pump - - it's thicker. Walmart has a generic that is much cheaper.

Voiceteacher....if you don't already you should be taking Fish Oil supplements.
I tried the fish oil but my stomach really couldn't tolerate it - - it was horrible -- I burped fish so long that day I thought all of the neighborhood cats were following me around!! :)

I've used Eucerin generic for years on my entire body. My skin will literally crack between my eyes (over the bridge of my nose) if I don't apply it at night.
I'd used Eucerin for years until I tried the Walmart generic. I like it even better. As far as Crisco in a tub . . . that's funny. Thirty years ago my allergist told me to grease up with Crisco and put on long sleeved cotton pj's at night. I did it one night only. My husband snuggled up for a minute, then moved back to his side of the bed and remarked "You smell like a french fry". That did it for me.
Wish they had had the Eucerin generic way back then. It has no smell. Maybe my skin would be better today. However, snuggling with my hubby was worth this old dry skin.

I use Carlsons Fish Oil. It is actual oil in a bottle and it tastes very good. I cannot take capsules. You do not burp up at all. I have gastroparesis and feel confident if I can tolerate most people can.

Yes everyone, I use the Walmart generic brand of eucerin in a tub and it's wonderful and much less expensive. I tried it on my lips once and really hated that experience but for my hands and other dry areas it's fabulous.

No remission at night for me.
Night is worse than day ... MUCH drier.
And from what I read .. remission at all is rare.
No, I don't get any "remission" or short break in the dry mouth at night, and never awaken drooling. On the other hand, while I do wake up at night to use the bathroom, I don't usually drink water. This water-free wakeup is in spite of getting, I think, the lowest possible score on two tests of sialometry -- "spit" tests. In one measure, I emptied my mouth of saliva, then tried to spit into a marked vial every minute for five minutes.
NOTHING NADA ZILCH, for four tries. On the last try at five minutes I produced an almost invisible drop of saliva, so invisible that the examiner had to caution the lab tech not to throw away the vial, that in fact in represented a valid test!
So I do have seriously dry mouth, just don't water it at night -- maybe because I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine. It might also work to get an humidifier for the bedroom, if you are not blessed with sleep apnea :-\
It's an extra expense, but dry dry winter is here, and I might spring for a humidifier, to help the dry skin.
