Title: Shin splint tpe pain in one leg
Post by: Katybarstool on December 27, 2011, 02:30:47 PM
Does anyone else have this? I walked around a couple of stores today, and I'm really paying for it now. I have had it before and it eventally eased up, but honestly, I just can't walk far enough for it to really be shin splints.

Another problem is very tired sore muscles in both legs when I walk upstairs/on an incline. My GP has ruled out low vit D, and has referred me to a vascular consultant on the 11, as he thinks it could be atherosclerosis. I'm not convinced. I had high BP for several years before the GP decided to treat it, but have never had high cholesterol. Anyway, the vascular consult has really freaked me out. Anyone had similar?

Maybe your doc wants to check and see if you have PAD(periphial artery disease) that may be causing pain in your legs?  It's a thought.  My husband had that and could only walk a little bit and then had to stop because of pain.  Not tiredness, but pain.  He had a surgery to fix this problem.  Lucy

You may not be getting enough magnesium in your diet.

I actually get this a lot. Not only joint pain, but muscle pain too. Especially when climbing stairs, and at night sometimes they just ache. I also have tingling, muscle twitches, and just generally irritated feeling muscles. I don't know if this can be caused by the  neurological issues sjogren's is known for or not, but that's what I was assuming. My doctor didn't seem too concerned about it at this point. He said I also seemed to have somewhat hyper reflexes, and I have days where I'm really shaky. I'm only 37 so it's a bit unusual to have hands that shake half the time. My blood tests and cholesterol looked fine.
I'm not sure if you have any of these issues too, but if it helps at all you're not alone with the weird muscle symptoms. Sorry I don't have any better information for you. The doctor did say, even though I didn't seem to be low either, to keep taking vit. D, B50, and calcium, especially though the winter. We don't get much sunlight this time of year where I live. I've also read that magnesium can help, like Joe S. said.
                        Take care.

Thanks for your thoughts, Lucy, Jo and Katie. Jo, I'm taking a magnesium supplement, so I'm hoping that base is covered.

I've been treated for presumed peripheral neuropathy for about 4 years. I also have Raynauds. I don't know whether this is relevant, but I also have a patch on the top of one foot that tingles and goes numb. My arm muscles ache too - but ot in the same category as my legs.

I expect it will turn out to be another gift from Sjogren's, so I'm trying not to get too spooked.
