Title: God's Grace and Mercy
Post by: Duchess on December 20, 2011, 09:27:56 AM
Hello,

I am EXHALING right now.

On Sunday 18 December, about 3:00 a.m., I got a call from my daughter saying "My house is on fire!" I said What! She kept screaming and crying " My house is burning, my house is burning Mom.

Everybody was out and safe, including the puppy and the guinea pig.

There were 2 adults and 4 children in the home at the time.

Can you imagine how I felt getting a call like that in the middle of the night?  I felt some emotions surfacing in me, then they went away. I felt just a glazing of tears, then they went away. It was like I couldn't even cry. I have noticed this since I've had Sjogren's. Anybody else? I wanted to cry, but I couldn't.

I got dressed and went over there. I saw all of these fire trucks and police cars on the street. I wanted to cry, but I couldn't. The fire had been put out by then.

I asked my daughter how this started. She said she had a candle lit in the bedroom. Her husband ( who is an alcoholic and known to the police was on probation) came home stumbling and falling all over the place, knocked over the candle and started the fire. He was 4 times over the legal limit. He was dragged out of the house by the police and put in the car. He did not know what the heck was going on. They lost everything in the fire!

I brought my daughter and grandchildren home with me. They are sleeping where they can.

By the grace and mercy of God, all are alright. We are so thankful. There has been a multitude of help from family, friends, strangers.....

The children are counting down to CHRISTmas.  :)

Thank-you for letting release my emotions somewhere and somehow.

Duchess,
It is a blessing that your daughter and her family survived the fire.  How scary that must have been for them.  My prayers are with them and you that they are able to get back on their feet.  How wonderful that there are so many willing and able to help them.
Merry Christmas to you!

I hope that this is a blessing in disguise. If your Daughter is not in Al-anon, I hope she can find help there. This may make your SIL get the help he needs. May the creator blessing warm your hearts and provide for your family.

((Duchess)) - I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's house.   :(

Whenever the phone rings in the middle of the night, it usually isn't with good news.  I can only imagine the shock of being woke up and hearing this news.

It's good that you live close by and could be there to comfort the family.  Hopefully, your son-in-law has had a big wake up call.  He's lucky that nobody was hurt.  A house can be rebuilt, but a life taken, can never be replaced.

I know what you mean about not being able to cry.  My eyes might get misty, but nothing big that would spill over into tears.  Then, when that dries up (which is always quickly thereafter), my eyes burn.

It's wonderful that neighbors, friends and strangers are offering their help.  In times of need, mankind, for the most part, is good in this area.

Blessings to the whole family as it affects every one of you.

Hugs,
Bucky

Duchess , thank goodness everyone was alright.   You were in shock,so thats how you could not cry or scream.
Later on, in time when you think about it you will probably come to tears then. We are here in the meantime.
I pray that your little ones have a lovely Christmas to  help wipe out this awful fright.
My sons'  ex-wife is an alcoholic too,  with two lovely young girls. (my Grandaughters)and this is the sort of worry I dread to think about..   God Bless,  Dolly

Duchess,
You can take a breath now.  Hopefully, you can get some sleep and your daughter and her children can also.

I know the Red Cross helps in cases of fire.  My daughter volunteers for the RC and takes these kind of incoming calls when she is on duty.  Lucy

I am so thankful to God that all of them are safe. When I was in my 20's and my son about 3 our house burned down. The people in the community got together to help us out.

Merry Christmas to you and your dear family.

What a terrible thing to happen. There's no wonder you needed to come here and vent. My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

Thanks to all.

An organization put them up in  a hotel for now.

I know they are getting some help from the Red Cross, the schools, etc.

The house is quiet right now. I am going to get some sleep. I am very tired. My energy  level is very low right now.

Sweet Dreams,

Duchess
