Title: Need some advice - swollen lymph node
Post by: KoukiGirl on December 19, 2011, 08:57:28 PM
I need some advice. I have a swollen lymph node right at the edge of my jaw near my parotid gland. It has been swollen for at least a week. It is not painful or anything, just there. When it first showed up I wasn't too concerned, and I read that it can be normal to have a swollen lymph node for up to 2 weeks, but I've also noticed within the past year or so that I have had swollen lymph nodes in my armpit and groin area. I don't know if that is normal or excessive.

For a little background, I'm 22 and was diagnosed with Sjogrens when I was 19. My first noticable symptom was swollen parotid gland(s) when I was 13. My rheumatologist told me I was more at risk for lymphoma which is why I'm maybe a little more worried about the swollen lymph node (especially since it is next to my parotid gland where my swelling usually is).

Should I go ahead and see my general doctor asap? Or should I wait to see if the swelling goes away and then mention it to my rheumatologist at my next appointment (in a few months)?

Part of me feels like if it is lymphoma, I'm probably not going to get worse if I wait it out for another week and monitor the swelling, but at the same time I don't know it it is super serious or something...

Help?

Hi Koukigirl,
My thought is, when in doubt, call the doctor. I know I have heard that cancerous lymphnodes dont hurt or cause pain, but are just enlarged. That might just be a generalization .But I would call the doctor anyway, just for peace of mind if anything. And maybe they can give you something for the swelling.

I learned on this forum that massaging tbe glands does help. Let us know what you end up doing

Better to go ahead and find that it's nothing than to worry yourself sick over the next week.

Positive thoughts your way!

I agree, get it checked out!

I doubt it is anything but imo hearing that from a doctor is the best.

Good luck!
