Title: Dry lips any suggestions?
Post by: DebbiK on December 11, 2011, 06:17:01 PM
Hi everyone,

I have the worst problem with my lips being extremely dry in the winter. I live in Wisconsin so it's not going to be warm for the next few months. I can't use chapstick or anything that has a heavy petroleum base. I've used Carmex and Burt's Bees lip balm, which helps, but it doesn't last. Any suggestions? I can't wear lipstick or lip gloss so that is out as well. Thanks for reading!

Deb

Similar weather here in Maine. Cold and so dry!

I've used the Burt's Bees lip balm...anything with bees wax is good. I also recently found a company called Real Purity...make some very nice cosmetics. I am super, super sensitive to chemicals and such, and I haven't had any issues thus far. Really like the lip gloss I got, and they also make a vitamin e lip balm too.

I've tried several products suggested on the Forum and it seems like I keep going back to the simple Blistex Complete Moisture (blue tube) which was also suggested on this Forum :)

A litle dab of mineral oil, vitamin E oil, or olive oil on the lips is very soothing.

shortening will do it as well as shea butter or olive oil, any of that.  Constant application is the key and lots and lots fo water.

Blistex complete moisture (blue tube) as mentioned above is my very favorite!  I use it several times of day, and even during the night, when I wake up to take a drink and put drops in my eyes.

I just got a system by Mary Kay...the first part is like a lip scrub...I use it about 3 times a week.  Takes away all of the dead dry skin so my lips can heal.  It isn't harsh though.  Then they have a silky lip gloss type of thing.  I like it because the silk feeling seems to last longer than most.  My husband actually noticed that my lips feel soft.
