Hi all,
just wondered if any of you have experienced similar. I am 38 and have not had my period since September I have now missed 3 coming up for 4. I have done 5 pregnancy tests which are all negative.
I have been to my GP and she has taken blood for FBC, Thyroid and hormones.
I am wondering if I am finished with menopause, I remember before salagen I was having night sweats the week before my period and that started when I was 33. I haven't had the night sweats, just the occasional salagen sweat.
has the salagen masked the symptoms of menopause?
I also read somewhere that women with autoimmune problems can have premature ovarian failure or early menopause.
anyone any experience of this?
My guess is that you might be nearing pre-menopause; my periods were becoming irregular (I'm 32) and my gyno said that once we hit our 30s, it isn't uncommon for our periods to become irregular and to not ovulate at all some months.
That being said - my mom was told she was going through early menopause in her early 30s...she went through several years of not having a period...then got pregnant with my baby brother at the age of 36. So don't let your guard down ;D
Hope you get some answers soon!
Hi,
This happened to me a couple of times. The first was 2 years after I'd had my first child. I gained weight and my periods came randomly or not at all. It turned out they'd become poly-cystic, so I now had Poly-Systic Ovarian Syndrome. I didn't know then that this could develop so far down the line, having had normal periods for 20 years.
The doc put me on Metformin, I started eating healthy and exercising and the cysts went away and my periods returned to normal.
My periods vanished for 7 months after I had my second child, and I wasn't breast-feeding (which often stops them). I got very skinny and I was hyper. Blood tests showed my thyroid was over-active, but I had anti-thyroid antibodies and ended up with an under-active thyroid. Cue weight gain, again. My periods returned after 4 months on thyroxine.
I hope it's all easily and happily resolved for you.
Suzie
Thanks all,
My mum has underactive thyroid so it may be that.
thanks ms history - not letting our guard down. we went for 1 pregnancy test to the family planning clinic and my hubby left with a care package ;)
A huge *sigh* from me. I wish this was my case at the age of 46. When I was younger, I would have irregular periods. I would go anywhere from 2-5 months without. Now for the past year, I've gone every three weeks! Ugh! It lasts a day longer than usual too. It is a little heavier than it used to be but I still can't compare to most women. Every three weeks....please give me a break! I just want it to end :) End peacefully my friend as I will not miss you...lol
premature ovarian failure? you are very young for a natural menopause. This failure can be part of autoimmune syndromes. Might want to have a gynecologist / rheumy check on this possibility ( as it can lead to calcium loss and increased risk of osteoporosis)
Hi,
Thats what I have been thinking since doing some internet searching. will mention this to my GP when I return for the results
