I am suddenly experiencing pain in my feet--the joints are all achy, like my hands used to be before I began treatment. I have never heard of this, although I imagine it's possible. There is no swelling, just pain. What really sucks is that no shoes are comfortable. None. I am a teacher, on my feet most of the day.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Yep, I am an elementary school counselor with all kinds of shoes that I thought would be comfortable but couldn't even wear for 30 mins once I bought them.
I have to buy my shoes a size bigger so they aren't tight and I often take another pair of shoes in case I need to change them.
I also have to wear flat shoes because it feels like I am walking on marbles on the ball of my left foot. I made an appointment with a podiatrist for that because I think that might be fixable.
Good luck, I know how hard it is to be on your feet all day with sore feet.

Meow,
My feet are so bound up with osteo arthritis that my toes have fused together.
I have to wear very very supportive shoes.
Do you have any infection or illness?. That always makes all my poor arthritic joints hurt.
Keep us posted.
Two things foot doctors always hear:
1) You've never seen feet as bad as this!
2) When your feet hurt, you hurt all over.
Hugs
Elaine
My feet began hurting way before my hands did and way before I tested positive for Sjogrens. I worry about it being more than just general osteo after reading the following about Sjogrens subtypes:
While most patients with Sjogren's syndrome have symptoms limited to sicca syndrome, a subset of patients may develop extraglandular symptoms, that is, symptoms not related to the glands. These symptoms include fatigue, rash, cutaneous vasculitis, Raynaud's phenomenon, arthralgia (joint pain), myalgia (muscle pain), myositis (muscle inflammation), frank arthritis, and a particular form of erosive or aggressive osteoarthritis affecting the hands and feet.
I can only wear K Swiss tennis shoes which have a rocking movement which keeps my big toes from bending every time I take a step. If I try to wear soft flat shoes it has to be for a short time....I haven't been able to dress up in several years. Once you make changes in your lifestyle to accommodate illness it seems like so many other things change too....I rarely go out other than work since I've had foot problems >:(
This was the first symptom I noticed. I had been cutting grass (lots of it) and my feet hurt so bad that I wanted to cry. They just ache and burn. Still now, while on major pain meds, my feet just throb and burn. I do feel your pain, and I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. I hope you find some relief, and if you do, please share!
Peace and blessings to you,
~ Andrea
Top of my feet and ankles joints are awful. The physical therapist I work with says I have awful inflammation on the top. I overdid it yesterday and by last night I couldn't even touch my feet they were so angry at me. I hate this part. Hope yours start to feel better!

I have had foot pain for years. It is actually better since being on Plaquenil. After a few months of taking it, I realized one day that my feet didn't hurt. It was like I didn't know how much pain I had until it was less.
Raene,
You are so right about not know how much pain you had in your feet until it was less. I had the same experience once I started Plaquenil.

Foot pain here too. Just like most of the posts in here. The top of my foot will swell, put off heat, and hurt so bad. The side of my foot feels soar and bruised all the time. Hurts to touch it. Joints ache. Toes swell and hurt.
I hope you find a shoe that works for you.

Me too!
my feet hurt the most in the morning. I crawl out of bed and hobble around and can only walk on the sides of my feet because they feel like the bones are breaking. Sigh.
Me too, my feet are sooooo painfull all the time worst in the morning and evening.
They hurt so much I could and do cry.I have tried various different types of shoes and pain killers with no success.By far the worst part of the entire illness for me !

I am sorry to hear that all of you have so much trouble with your feet. :(
But it helps to know I'm not alone, and that it is likely from the Sjogrens, and not some wonderful new medical adventure.
Thanks!
Aaah, the wonderful foot pain. I must say that I haven't had it as bad lately. Maybe the plaquenil is helping? But there for awhile, prior to plaquenil, I would wake up and start down the steps and feel like the bones in my upper feet were going to break. Very painful.
The other night, I had a strange experience. I was just about to fall asleep and got a sharp pain in the bottom of my left foot. This wasn't cramping but a toothache like pain. I even started crying and woke my husband who proceeded to rub it until I fell asleep. I love that man. I do notice that the bottom of my heels get sore once in awhile as well.
Hi everyone!
I experienced terrible foot pain for quite awhile before I went to see a podiatrist. She discovered I had arthritis in my toes and in my feet. She also ran blood work and sent me to my Rheumy... that's how I ended up here! :) The foot pain was like the gateway!!!!
The foot pain has subsided significantly since I have been on the plaquenil, it's been about 5 months that I have been on it and it's just one of those things that you don't notice until something triggers you to think about. The plaquenil has helped everything overall except for the brain fog. I still have fatigue and joint pain that kicks my rear but it would be sooo much worse without the plaquenil.
Hang in there! Something is bound to help you!!!!
Sending good thoughts your way!
It may sound weird; but, the only shoes I can wear are good ole Dr. Scholls. I have sneakers, loafers, wedges, and dress flats. Not the prettiest shoes I've owned; but, you do what you have to do. Hope you find some relief from your pain.

P.S. If you find relief from pain . . . . please share!!!!
In desperation, I dug out a pair of SAS shoes that I bought for some reason about 15 years ago, and they were comfortable. I wore them all weekend, and now I am fine, back to normal. That was very weird. But at least I know what to do if it happens again!
