Title: dyhdyration
Post by: Talk2kalise on December 06, 2011, 10:20:16 AM
I am thirsty ALL the time.  Water doesn't cut it. I must drink at least four bottles of Gateorade a day.  When I am not constantly drinking my glands are more likely to hurt. Is there a connection from dehydration and SS?

If this is a new problem for you, then I'd suggest a diabetic blood test is warranted.
Being thirsty is one of the main symptoms of Diabetes.  Dolly

I am thirsty all the time. I swear I feel like im dying of thirst. I literally panic if I don't have water.  Been tested so many times for diabetes before we found out i have Sjogrens. Always came back negative on the diabetes. So. I am assuming it is the Sjogrens.

Looking back, I think this "dehydrated" feeling in my mouth, plus eye tearing, were my first 2 symptoms that pointed to Sjogrens. I ended up constantly drinking huge amounts of water, and having to urinate very frequently. Tests for diabetes were completely normal, so that isn't an issue for me.

I've had to learn that just because my mouth feels dry, that doesn't mean I need something to drink. And for me, drinking anything doesn't provide relief for more than a minute or two. Biotene products, toothpaste, mouthwash and gel, work better than water for me. And I've learned to gauge my hydration status more by what color my urine is, since my mouth isn't accurate.

Hey Luna..

what happens when you don't drink water?? I was watching a doc on this woman how has insane thirst.. she would always need water and her body broke down if she went an hour or two without it.. apparently there is another form of diabetes which has to do with the inability to produce a certain hormone.. I can think of the name sorry ( hello brainfog) but it took her years to find the right dx but its treated simply apparently.

Or it could be the ss.. I get thirsty all the time.. the best way to determine if your dehydrated is to look at your pee.. the yellower it is the more dehydrated you are... ideally pee should be clearish or very light/clear yellow..

The other type of diabetes that you are referring to is called Diabetes Insipitus and it is caused by pituitary gland malfunction---I think. I haven't read up on it for a long time. Anyway, you need to be checked for this as I do believe that a hormone replacement is what settles things back to normal.

Also, if you are drinking 4 quarts of gatorade a day I would think that your sodium and potassium blood levels could possibly be screwed up. Either that or they are screwed up to begin with and drinking all that helps to maintain your body.

Either way, it is time for you to get this checked out. If you have an endocrinologist in the area this would be the place to start. Having all your hormones and secreting organs assessed would be a good idea, ie., pancreas, thyroid, pituitary, adrenal, pineal, etc. Good luck. Irish ;D

I take my complete B vitamin at breakfast and for several hours my urine is bright yellow. By dinner time (supper here) its back to clear.

I put 4-5 bottles of water in frig and finish them off by bedtime... reload next a.m. ;)

Only way I can remember if I have had my water for the day! :-[  One less thing to try to maintain in this brain. ???

Hey Wiccagal, My urine is clear and I go alot. If I don't drink, I have trouble talking, my throat gets sticky and so dry.The drynesss seems to cause an awful itch and cough. my mouth is awful dry and so is my throat. Thanks for the information about that other Diabetes. I will ask to be tested next time i see a doc. I was shocked when they tested me and I was not diabetic. It does run in my family big time. Once they diagnosed me with Sjogrens, I just assumed thats it.  Thank you.
Irish, thanks for the name. I will look it up.
