Title: How do I know when I'm feeling better?
Post by: Carolina on December 02, 2011, 07:35:40 AM
Dearest angels,

Dare I say I'm feeling better?

You know I went through that respiratory 'whatever it was' for the two weeks around Thanksgiving.  Wound up having to stay home cause the worst hit Thanksgiving eve and on for the next three days.

BUT, although I felt 'maybe' a bit better each day since last Sunday, it was hard to really know.

Today I walked up to the second floor and didn't collapse in breathlessness and agony onto my desk chair!

In fact today I woke up and forgot about being 'sick'......so I guess I feel better!

Better is wonderful!   Better is soooo easy to take for granted.

That, and the niggling doubt that better will last long enough to TAKE for granted.

Do you know what I mean?

Sorta always waiting for another 'shoe to fall 'in the 'how do I feel area'.

Anyway, going out on a limb here, I do feel pretty good!

;D

Wrapping  the few Christmas presents I bought.  I think I'll ask the kids to come here on Friday night before Christmas, to do 'our dinner and sharing'.

We are all traveling 5 hours north to VA and different families for the 25th, and I think everything would just get 'lost in the shuffle' otherwise.

So at last I'm able to sort of 'think ahead' which is so hard to do when feeling like crap on a shingle, you know?

Maybe this goes into social?

ACK

Hugs

Elaine

Elaine, I know exactly what you mean!

I felt good for about three weeks straight.

And while I was feeling better I was thinking, Oh c'mon, A66ey, you don't really have Sjogren's, it's all a big mistake! Look at how fine you are.  All you are is lazy, and inclined to indulge yourself.

I was OK after driving to south Florida for 13 hours, spending T'giving the the family and stressing out about cooking and cleaning up and moving furniture and dealing with my sister. And then driving back another 13 hours. So who am I kidding? Take up thy pallet and walk, for crying out loud.

Then on Wednesday I woke up soooooo sick I couldn't even believe I was the same person.

It's like, *smacks self on forehead* Oh yeah, I remember now! I'm sick!

I really did take feeling better for granted.

You're so right, Elaine, better really IS better!   ;)

I hope better lasts a nice, long time for you, girlfriend!

Girls I know exactly what you mean.

I am so glad to be a part of this forum; to know that I am not crazy in my thinking and feelings.

On the days that I feel good, I reprimand myself. I deny having the disease/or think that it's all gone now.

Then when I take rest periods, I say to myself, "You know you really could be doing somethings now. You are being lazy. You know you shouldn't be asking people to help you with doing things."

Then, I hit the brick wall so hard, it knocks me totally off my feet. I feel sooooo bad. It feels like I have been in the ring with Mohammad Ali!!!!

As time goes by, someone will ask me how I feel. I would say better, BUT, better doesn't necessarily mean 100% better. Do you know what I mean.

I am truly thankful to God for the "BETTER" days.

I second guess myself daily about just being lazy.  Hourly!  I get these little periods of feeling well and I'll be in such a good mood I'll put the iPod on and start dancing and cooking something in the kitchen and BOOM!  I'm hurting all over for days.  Then I'm chiding myself for being out of shape.  I still doubt that I'm even sick.  Oh, geez!  This is one of those days where I just need to go back to bed.  It's that time and I realize that my hormones make me bats**t crazy and moody and tearful and just so nasty.

I need to watch some cartoons!!    :o

I know how you feel.. I had problems breathing for so long, pain and feeling I wasn't getting enough air and coughing and no one could tell me why.. So I spent most of my time in bed watching TV because I felt terrible all the time..

After taking everyones advice on here and getting a humidifier I can finally breathe and I feel so much better.. Until that feeling better gets me up and away from my humidifier for 3 or 4 hours then it all starts coming back and I remember how bad it was before..  I still spend a lot of time in my bedroom watching TV but at least I feel a whole lot better now.. I will be so glad when I can afford a bigger humidifier so I can be in any room without worrying about my breathing..

Now if I could just get rid of the dry eyes, joint pain and brain fog i'd be great..  ;D

Elaine - glad to hear you are feeling better today.   ;D  Just don't overdo anything or as you know, you will pay the price later.   ::)

It's good to get these breaks once in a while where we "almost" feel human again - isn't it?

IMHO, you know, people get hung up on trying to do it ALL on December 25th.  I think spreading it out over several days when you have traveling to do, and family members have other obligations to attend to too - makes it more enjoyable for everyone.  (or even doing it AFTER the official holiday - which we've done before)

I can't count how many times I've heard people complain how busy and worn out they are around the holidays as they are running from house, to house, to house.  To me, it seems like it causes more stress than the joy it's suppose to bring. (this from someone who DOESN'T have to run, run, run at the holidays - so, I don't have the stress factor that others do.)

Just sayin'   ;)

Enjoy your weekend!

Bucky

Best news heard from your side of the mountain in a long time... Listen to that ole' bod and rest a spell from time to time!!! And, before you know it the 25th will roll in! Enjoy those grandkids!

Go girlfriend, your are my led angel!!! ;) It is so superb to hear you mention feeling better! ;D

*Our side of mountain was in mid 50s this p.m. and the beautiful sun glimmering off the early morning frost set the stage for a most enjoyable day... spent couple hours in warm water arthritis pool with the sun shining on the water. A day well lived!! :)

Oh, Elaine, remember to PACE yourself.  LOL, The other side of the mountain* 8)

Glad for some good news, Elaine!  I keep telling myself to live in the moment and not constantly be thinking about the next bad day.  Maybe the dull thud of that mantra into my mushy brain might make it work.

And don't overdo! My plaquenil is starting to kick in and I spent both Saturday and Sunday before Thanksgiving cleaning the house. I spent 3 HOURS in my bathroom!  And by Tuesday evening I was a sobbing, emotional, pain-filled wreck. (And I called my mother.  Clearly I was not in my right mind.  I needed a chat on here at that moment!)

Enjoy your happy, Elaine!

Oh I understand!

You think you feel better so you try and enjoy yourself a bit. BUT there is that little nagging thing in the back of your brain wondering how much it is going to cost you later! Not the easiest to turn that part off and it does lessen the enjoyment of feeling ok.
