Title: Feel like I've been punched in the jaw
Post by: LizPetillo on November 29, 2011, 03:46:39 AM
We all know sjogrens is strange .. I've got a new 'symptom' that's popped up in the past few days.  I just assume it's sjogrens related.  Never had it before ...

The right underside of my jaw feels like someone has punched it.  It's tender to the touch like a deep bruise and it hurts.  No discoloration and I don't feel any new lumps ...

Of course, my mind goes to lymph nodes, cancer, blocked salivary ducts (or whatever is in there), some new submandibular issue ... etc ....

Anyone else have a tenderness in this area pop up suddenly?  Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hi, this was one of my first symptoms - pain in the jaw area.

At first i was diagnosed with tmj on one side of my jaw which felt like i had been punched and bruised.

I was also getting a different type of pain which i now know through having mri that it was imflammation of my salivary glands.

I actually think tmj is happening as well as sjogrens as two differrent types of pain.

My dentist made me a mouth guard to help and i use heat.

This was my main symptom facial pain near the jaw, then i realised i had the dryness issues too.

Hope this helps.

It may be an infection.

Yep.  I get sensitivity to touch under jaw and over cheeks sometimes.  Right now, it's mainly underneath.

Yes, but mine is on the left side. It started with some tenderness and pain just under my ear. That went on for three days and then it started to really swell and the pain was tremendous. A large knot formed in front, and below my ear and half of my face was swollen. I looked like Miss Piggy.

The pain and swelling got so bad, I had to go to ER. The doctor was really concerned about it. He called me for the next several days to see if I was improving. That was 2 weeks ago. I am just now beginning to feel some better with a bit of tenderness just below my ear.
