Title: Lip biopsy and research
Post by: matildamillicent on November 29, 2011, 01:13:52 AM
Hi all,

I just want to thank everyone here for their support. Today I had my lip biopsy done. It was a pretty horrible experience and I wouldn't do it again if I was told it was necessary. I'm in quite a lot of pain tonight and managed to eat a yogurt today =[

But I just wanted to let anyone who's interested know that my saliva glands are participating in research to help look for a genetic marker found in people with Sjogren's (I assume only if it's positive). So hopefully research like this can help future 'sufferers'.

While I'm here, can I ask, how long did it take for you to recover after the biopsy? I'm planning to avoid Prednisone, even though my joints are swollen, so it can heal quicker!

Thanks.

Hi there,
I know how your lip must hurt right now. Mine was sore for about 2 or 3 days. It was black and blue though for about a week. I continue to have an area of numbness, and it has been almost 4 years since I had it done. My results were negative too :-(

You could try icing it to keep the swelling and bruising down. I hope you are back eating solid food soon.

Thanks so much JellyB. I'm feeling even worse today. My joints were all swollen and sore already and now I just feel so much worse. I've got a temperature, swollen lymph nodes in my armpits, I'm nauseous and really dizzy. I'm hoping it's just because I haven't really been able to eat very much (1 yogurt yesterday). I'd be fine with a bit of numbness but I'd really like it to stop hurting and not be infected!

Thanks
