Title: Vitamins/Supplements
Post by: sunkissed64 on November 28, 2011, 10:32:49 PM
I wanted to ask you guys what vitamins/minerals and supplements you take to help alleviate your sjogrens symptoms. I have heard several people comment on how miraculous iron has been for them. I am willing to take vitamins and try a more hollistic/natural approach to treating our disease. Only one problem. The larger pills feel like horse pills going down. UGH Worse yet? I have been having nausea off and on for years and I threw up the other day after taking the vitamins I am currently taking on an empty stomach. Now I makes sure to take them with food. I am taking biotin, niacin, primrose oil, a multivitamin, a vitamin supplement called Viviscal that's supposedly miraculous for your hair health. Only two formal meds are bystolic for high bp and synthroid. I have read up on synthroid and next time I see my general practitioner I'm gonna ask for him to put me on liotrix brand name thyrolar. Synthroid only deals with T4 this new drug deals with T3 and T4. Any of you guys on it?

Sunkissed,

I am not on thyroid meds, BUT I share the inability to swallow pills. Anything larger than a plain, round aspirin just get stuck - it's terrifying. Now I insist on liquid or chewables when possible. When not available, the pharmacists helps me on which meds I can melt in warm water.

Anyway, I don't let that stop me in terms of supplements. In my local natural food store, I find many liquid preparations. I found iron pills that are tiny and easy to swallow (vegan iron, i think) and a delicious chewable vit D, I take 2000 mg a day. I also use certain stress relieving liquids that you mix with water, like marshmallow root, lemon balm, licorice, etc.

I think iron and protein shakes help the most. Many times, protin powder is fortified with lots of good nutrients and such.

Take care,

Kelly

I only take my daily Centrum Silver and calcium.

I'm thinking of starting zinc because I've read (here I think) that zinc helps keep colds at bay --- and I'm scared of getting a cold. (I'm already sick, for crying out loud, I don't need a cold to make me feel worse!) Has anyone used zinc?
