if you ever had a stomache ulcer what were your symptoms and how long did it take to get over it... also if i do have ulcer, and get treated can i go back to the voltaren xl???

I also have had stomach ulcers, 2 duodenal about 20 years ago, they found that i had the Helicobacter virus, I was put on a very strong course of antibiotics and it cleared it up.
While i had them I suffered really bad heartburn I couldn't tolerate a lot types of food including chocolate and the smallest amount fat would make me sick, I would go to bed feeling OK, and wake in the middle of the night to be sick.
To this day I have to be very mindful of what medications that I do take.
I really don't know what the current treatment is for it,as it was such a long time ago, I cannot comment on the Voltaren.

I have had ulcers caused by H-Pylori 3 different times since 2000. Each time my first symptoms were poor appetite and slight nausea. Then the pain would begin. Honestly, it felt like I had a hot coal in my gut. The only thing that would help was to eat something bland like mashed bananas, grits, mashed potatoes, rice, etc. and 2 or 3 hours later . . . the routine would begin again. I could only eat a very little amount at a time and would drop 10 -15 lbs. each time I got sick. All 3 times, I had an endoscopy to determine what was wrong and then put on a 2-week course of strong antibiotics. After much research, we believe my infections were caused by our well water. We have had a very expensive purifying system with a UV light and two other filters since Jan. when I was last infected. We are praying that this will prevent any further problems. I guess only time will tell. I can no longer eat anything fried, chocolate, or spicy. That could be because of the hiatal hernia but I don't know for sure. If you think you may have an ulcer, you need to get to the doctor immediately. I have an way of thinking " I can 't really be this sick " and always waited too long and suffered needlessly because I didn't want the doctor to think I was crazy. I've had ulcers off and on since I was a kidlet, and all I can remember that when one is developing is the stomach pain. I've had stomach pain for so long that I don't pay it much mind until it really gets ugly (mainly its my esophagus and throat that are often painful).
About taking Voltaren after being treated I can't say, but I would talk to your gastro or your primary just to be sure.

I get ulcers on a pretty regular basis. My birth-father died of stomach cancer at age 49, and his father also died of stomach cancer, so I'm really careful about my gut.
When I get an ulcer my symptoms start out feeling like I'm soooo hungry. I've described it as feeling as though someone has polished the inside of my stomach with a dry rag, like I haven't eaten in three or four days. If I let it go a day or two, I get pain that will actually double me over.
My understanding is that h-pylori is the culprit in 95% of stomach ulcers that become cancer, and the only way to screen for that is with a biopsy which is taken during an endoscopic exam (under general anesthesia). Luckily for me, I don't have h-pylori. But I get scoped once a year anyhow.
I take Nexium every day, and carafate four times a day (an hour before meals and at bedtime) when I'm hurting. Otherwise I just take the daily Nexium and pop a carafate when I think of it.
I don't know what the med you're on is for, or what it might do to the stomach, but I don't alter my meds at all. But I've had ulcers for years and years, since way before my Sj diagnosis.

I have had the h pylori infection 3 times that i have am aware of and i have been treated each time with the triple therapy but it either keeps coming back or never goes away in the first place as it never gets checked out once treated.
I understand that there is a link to ulcers with h pylori.
I have loads of indigestion and sometimes take omerprazole for it but fortunately as yet never had an ulcer but imagine there would be lot of stomach pain
well GP dr. thinks it ulcer- blood work tested neg for h pylori.. but im pretty sure i did myslef in with the voltaren plus was on digestive enzymes that made it worse...now am on enzymes made to treat ulcer and a host of holistic meds: licorice, tumeric for the pain since canttake nsaid, plus it helps ulcer and i also take zantac and a prevacid daily... still no pain just burn burnburn.... but seems much better since began the licorice powder... the carafate makes me feel drowsy, gross and unable to fucntion..... rhuemy gonna start me on injectibe mtx instead of oral until i get better...

I'm on Carafate for "bile reflux".....to be honest this Carafate helped a great deal, at least i can eat without feeling someone kicked in my stomach.. I thought I had an ulcer already but I don't have....is that the Bile reflux really hurts...
I think the best thing is to go for an endoscopy...and find for sure what is the problem.
