Title: How was your Thanksgiving?
Post by: Luna on November 25, 2011, 06:05:48 AM
I had Thanksgiving at my house. We had 15 people here. It went well. I deligated all the things that needed to be done. I did the turkey, and hubby did dressing, and each guest brought a dish. Everyone said that was a good idea cause no one person was busy the whole time and we actually got to sit and visit and enjoy ourselves. I felt ok the whole day and feel ok today. I am thankful I have a family that is sympathetic and wants to understand what I deal with, and are so willing to help.

How was ya'lls thanksgiving?

Mine was busy, cooking, cleaning, entertaining.  About noon I thought I wouldn't make it the rest of the day. We go through the meal and my husband washed all the pots and pans for me!  What a blessing that was.  My sister cooked all the desserts and my husband and I did the meal.  After we ate lunch and visited for a bit, everyone went home which gave me time to rest before they came back to help us eat leftovers.  It was sad because my dad wasn't here, but considering how much we were missing him, it went well.

We went to our daughter Sarah's home. Her inlaws were there and helped with most of the meals. Jan made buns and deviled eggs. We left early since Jan was tired from working all night and I was on the third day of a flair. Today is number 4.

I hope every one had a good day.

Our Thanksgiving was on Wednesday so we could accommodate fold that had to work on Thanksgiving day.

It was a potluck. I had to prepare sweet potato tarts, apple tarts, cornbread dressing, cranberry sauce. I had another person smoke a turkey for us. I had help from my son and grandson. It got to a point that my son said " Mom, go lay down, I will do the rest." I was grateful for that. I just get worn out.

The next day, I did well until the evening. My mother lives in a nursing facility, but she can go out on leave. We had her and she has CHF, bronchitis, etc. It got to a point that both of us was laid out on the couch.

I was very thankful for the gathering of family. It was warm and hospitable. Watching the little ones play was a joy to see.

On Thanksgiving day, I had to take a Flexeril and extra pain meds. I was out of it. I really needed the rest. We were invited out, but I had to decline the invite.  Sometimes it bothers me knowing that I used to be able to do all of that and more without fatigue. I am learning to go with the flow.

It was sunny and warm.

But we had to stay home from the big family affair, 5 hours north, in Virginia, because my 'illness' finally caught up with me.

I have a sort of flu, but since there's no fever, it isn't a real flu, I don't think.

Anyway I hurt all over and have a cough, and am exhausted beyond belief.

My husband went out to pick up a dinner at a local restaurant, but they were so rushed they left out the cranberries, whipped sweet potatoes and collard greens (it's a southern themed restaurant)!

I wasn't up to eating much anyway, and it's the idea that counts really.

So it's me, the two adorable cats, the grand puppy and my husband.

He's taking care of me, and stripping wall paper in our breakfast sun room.   He loves to keep busy and does enough for four people.

I did get up and faint this morning...I guess it was a real faint because I had no idea how I got onto the floor.

I do need to get some sort of sleep medication and muscle relaxant since I can't take the regular pain stuff.

I didn't really sleep at all Wednesday night to Thursday morning because of the pain, tho' a heating pad did help my neck, which is the worst source of pain.

I need to get one of those things you heat and wrap around your neck so I can lie down with it.

My son has called three times to check on me, and is having a great time with his wife's family who are near our family in VA.  We were all going to get together tonight at his cousin's to trim her tree, but now we won't be there of course.

I couldn't have travelled and would have been terrible company if I had tried.

So I DIDN'T Gobble 'til I Wobbled, but I did wobble a bit this morning!

Hugs

Elaine

Had a fairly low key day. Spent the day with our neighbors, and we brought the cranberry sauce, squash and stuffing. I was fairly tired before, but I did make it through ok. Spent most of the day sitting and talking, which was nice. Except for where I was too tired to think.

Working on recovering now. In bed resting.

Enjoy resting up from yesterday!  I'm a day behind; my crowd is coming this afternoon.

Every one of you is on my list of blessings.   I'm thankful for you.  :)

Had a great day.  Went to my cousin's and did not have to do anything.   I have a large family and all of us cousins get together for the holidays, and also during the year.

I feel very tired today and am going to rest.  I also feel contested in my chest, a little hard time breathing too.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.   :)

We went to my parents and me and my sisters brought food, and mom still insists on making food though she is in constant pain. Dad always helps mom even though he is in pain too.

We all had a good time visiting, eating, and watching the little great nieces of mine.

My son and daughter in law go to her parents, and here for Christmas.

I actually baked cookies this year. :) The first time in years. Couldn't even attempt it when I was still working.

It was sad for my husband, because of his mom passing a few years ago, and his dad last month. He still tried to enjoy himself for me though I know. We are very close.

Love all of you !

Ahh Luna and Nara and all,

Better today, got dressed!

You may recall that I'm one of those people who "never get sick", so this has come as a shock.

I assume it means another several years before I get sick again!

Well, I do think that, with my immune factors so severely compromised, I may have had one or two things in the past two or three years, come think of it!

Anyway, this is receding into the past.

Thanks for the TLC.

Hugs

Well, This is Saturday and ours is just over. We just had the family which comes to 8 adults and 5 kids. I did the whole meal which was nothing fancy. Just the usual turkey,(hubby carves it) mashed pot (DIL peels and mashes them) corn, broccoli/cheese/ cranberries, stuffing ( I made and my favorite part of the meal) and those 7 pies I made which all had good crust for the first time in my life!!!! Finally, before I die I made some good crust!!!

The event of the evening was just after we started my son moved his chair back and placed the leg flat on top of his 7 year old nephews little bare foot. Nephew didn't say one thing and all of a sudden then was running and commotion. The kids foot looked terrible and he cried a long time. Son held nephew in lap with ice pack on foot for a long time.

As far as the rest of us, we all got so rattled over this that we kind of just ate and the meal was done. We were so worried the kid had his foot broken. DIL made the remark that if they had to go to ER it would be right in keeping as it seemed they always ended up in ER with a kid on a holiday.

Elaine, So sorry that you were really down in bed no fooling sick for this holiday. I hope that you are feeling better and can enjoy the Christmas season. Hope everyone else got enough to eat and enjoyed the long weekend.

By the way, I popped Mestinon for my muscle strength and washed more dang dishes and fixed more meals than I have in a long time. DIL helped, but we think the dished were hatching. Man, it will be water and a toothpick for us now that the kids are gone. I am pooped. Irish ;D

We had four for Thanksgiving on Thursday - the two of us plus our daughter and my sister. My foster brother is not feeling well lately, with his kidneys failing.

We did get to speak with our son in Phoenix. He usually has to work all day on Thanksgiving (hotel) but managed to get over to his fiancee's family dinner in time for dinner.

Easy meal and easy clean-up - we have it down now. Daughter was pleased we ate tomatoes from her garden, which we could still harvest a couple of days ago!

Take care,

Genko

We were going to our daughters house and her cousin and youngster were coming in from Indianapolis.  This would be a big group for us.  Now, plus the grand pup along with a 5 y/old. (No not my husband).  Daughter's cousin could not make the trip.  I was in too much pain from my knee/leg that I didn't want to go and put a damper on it plus my daughter had a cold.  I do not need this on top of the knee replacement.  I am afraid of germs now.

So, then it appeared it would only be my husband and our daughter.  Well some time after my hubby came home, he mentoned a "friend" who had joined them for dinner.  This "friend" is an ex-BF and they sometimes still do stuff together. I don't believe he has anyone to spend the holiday with.  I had a day of healing and did get some of the goodies.  My hubby took a nice bone over for the dog (not chicken or turkey) and I guess she (dog) was engrossed the whole time gnawing on the bone and didn't jump around and get all hyper.  It was a good day.  Lucy

It was a really nice day!  We had the usual meal that's too large at my MIL's house. Turkey, dressing, several vegetables, chicken and dumplings, salads and pumpkin pie.

The prep work wasn't bad. Our daughter came into town Wed. and she, I and her Dad went to MIL's that night to make the pumpkin pie, make deviled eggs and a waldorf salad.  We had help on Thursday from our neice, nephew and his fiance.  There was a total of 15 people, including the 4 children.

We had good food, good company and fun together, which was the most important part. My mother-in-law was thrilled that all 3 of her children were there, all 3 grandkids and her 2 great-grandchildren (and one on the way.) :) She is such a generous lady; I'm glad we made her day special.
