I have been in severe pain with my fingers hurting due to raynauds. I have in the past had my fingers turn purple/blue. Several times today (while walking in the AIR CONDITIONED hall at work - it's winter, of course they were running the air :o) both hands turned a purple blue color and felt "tingly". They changed back to normal color after holding them in front of a heater for a bit. Also, they weren't so painful like my fingers get.
Is this raynauds? Can it affect your entire hand? It was pretty odd/creepy. Saw my gp several weeks ago and she had suggestions (she has never seen my fingers change color, just freezing feeling), but doesn't want to put me on beta blockers due to the number of meds I am already on. I, however, am miserable and in pain with fingers and toes, especially at work. Need to wear gloves, but since I type all day, that's a bit more difficult.
I would occasionally cut the finger tips off a pair of gloves to wear at work. The office would get cold I would wear a sweaters as most of the employees did. My wife is working on the floor that I was on and wears a sweater. She has put on gloves between calls and on breaks.

Do you have Raynaud's I can't say as I can't diagnosis. Does he consider it primary or secondary?

Joe does have a good point, can you take a regular pair of gloves and cut the tips off? I've seen fingertip less gloves at several major chains without the finger tips under $10 (Target/Walmart).

Yes, I have been dx with raynauds by my g.p. What I am wondering is can it effect the entire hand? Both hands as a matter of fact all day. Is it supposed to just be fingers/toes etc. or can it be the entire hand? Looked like I dipped my hands in ink. Previously, it only affected the fingers and toes, not the entire palms of my hands.?.?.
I have raynauds all over my body pretty much 24/7..it never goes away. Fingers/toes/head/nose...ears, all my extremities.
I stay under my heating blanket all the time, even in the hot summer. Its def a circulatory thing.

I have some fingerless gloves with a little mitten flap I got at Whole Foods. Really warm, since they're made from alpaca. The flap is nice, so I can use that if my finger tips get cold too. I also have silk glove liners that I can wear underneath the alpaca glove/mittens, too.
Don't know if what I experience is Raynauds or not, but I will get tingling pain and color changes (white or red, though have gotten a little bluish cast to my fingers). Seems to work for me, and it also helps the joint pain and swelling I get.

I would sure want another opinion on that one. With Raynaud's your fingers usually turn WHITE, then red and or purple. Hmmm.
Also, you would want a calcium channel blocker, not a beta blocker.
As someone here mentioned on another thread, take a PHOTO next time when your hands or fingers change colors, then show it to your doctor.
And keep your body core WARM.
I have gloves to wear when my hands act up. with me it is usually white first, then it mingt turn bluish or lilac.
The gloves I mention, are gloves bought in a pharmacy, ment for people with pain, Raynauds and so on. It is made of a thermal fabric, and makes my hands ok. The gloves lack the fingertips, so I can type on a computer, write and a lot of stuff with them on. Even if the tips are gone (they're supposed to because you're supposed to "do stuff" when wearing them), my fingers doesn't get attacked by Raynauds as often as before.

Had a follow up with Rheumatologist - breaking out in rashes again (allergic to simponi???) and he confirmed the diagnosis of Raynauds and your hands can definately turn blue. He test capillary refill in my fingers, very slow compared to his own. The one disheartening thing is they seems to think of raynauds as more a nusance (sp?), not understanding how PAINFUL it actually is.
Got told by my doctor that there was some medication for other medical problems I could take that had the nice side effect of making my feet and hands warm.
Might be nice for winter time if nothing else.
