Ok, after reading the peanut butter thread, I was curious to know just what are the inflammatory foods? Hadn't heard that before.
Inflammatory foods are anything you love but know you shouldn't or can't have. :D
Stuff like milk, chocolate, cheese bother me but I AM NOT GIVING UP CHOCOLATE. Period. End of discussion. Sometimes acidic stuff like pickles, pickled jalepenos, pickled tomatoes bother me but haven't in a long time.
You can google anti inflammatory foods and you will find lots of info. And lists. The diet helps if you can stick to it. I try, but I do induge in chocolate and wine hee hee :-)
I had a thread here that gave info about 'diet tips doctors don't tell you about'.
SUGAR = INFLAMMATORY FOOD.
Anything with sugar.
And anything that can turn into sugar (bread, pasta, pastries, etc).
Ok. This is getting sad. I am both gluten and lactose intolerant. Then last night I got the word from this board that peanut butter was bad. Now chocolate and wine. :'(
You can add corn to that list which means corn on the cob. No way will I give that up. Give up chocolate---never. Now wine, I can't drink that much anyway due to the preservatives in it so it won't bother me to give that up.Irish ;D

So, what is there left to eat that isn't inflammatory?
It seems like everything we eat these days causes something. We already have given up so much. I will enjoy a few things I like to eat also.

Nuts and seeds
There are lots of lists of foods considered inflammatory - but if you look up legitimate research on them you'll find some people do indeed find them inflammatory and others don't. And foods not on these lists may be inflammatory for you.
IOW, I wouldn't base my diet on any of these lists, they are unreliable - but if you think that one or more foods are causing you problems, the best way to test this is to follow an elimination diet. Basically you are only allowed to choose from a small number of foods that are least likely to cause any problems - then you add in one new food at a time for week and watch closely to see if there are any changes. It's the best way to determine if you are sensitive/allergic. The only problem with the elimination diet, besides that it's boring, is that if you have psychological issues you might think you have a reaction when you don't. Also if you know you have a allergy to a certain food - I'm allergic to peanuts - well I'm not going to eat peanuts on this kind of a challenge unless I'm in my allergist's office and they are prepared to treat me for an anaphylactic response. LOL
Dr. McDougall has a clear explanation about what you should look for while on the diet, what you can accomplish and how to do it. http://www.drmcdougall.com/med_allergic.html
Here is more info from Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elimination_diet and here is some info at Mayo clinic http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/food-allergy/DS00082/DSECTION=tests-and-diagnosis
Oh, Irish! You're so wise - I know what you mean about chocolate (and lots of other treats). Some days it seems like everything is too much and then to be asked to give up some of our few pleasures!
Skylar makes a really good point about what is inflammatory for some people doesn't work that way for others. I wouldn't go on any diet, not even an elimination diet, without checking with my GP. For those of us on lots of meds that's even more vital.
Chickpea
Chickpea,
Agree with your post entirely! ( you saved me some typing) ;) :D
After almost 3 years of this, I have no idea what makes me feel better or worse as far as food or drink. I try to eat as healthy as possible, but I refuse to give up my coffee or chocolate.
p.s. Glad to see you posting more often. :)

I think sugar is the worst for me... and nightshades.

Well, I've read corn and potatoes are supposed to be inflammatory, and those are the big vegetables.
I'll add to this list: tomato products, peppers of any kind , cucumbers, almonds, grapes. These cause digestive problems. I also avoid artificial colors (FD & C colors), which cause skin problems.

Thanks for taking my post seriously enough to question it. By vegetables, I meant green and yellow vegetables, plus occasionally cauliflower. Carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach, kale, (not corn), V-8 juices, possibly Splash, except that I always turn it down in the store. Also beets.
Unsweetened almond milk -- I add Stevia (Truvia is a brand name in the grocery stores now).
Best,
