Title: Visit to foot doctor---
Post by: quilt4fun on November 06, 2011, 01:17:58 PM
You never know when just a little bit of information can start a discussion!
At my visit to the foot doctor for plantar warts on Thursday, the nurse read  my medications. She thought out loud " medication for high blood pressure"  I told her no.  She turned and looked at me and I told her "Sjogrens Syndrome".   She said, "wow, you're the 5th person that's been in this office with that in the past few weeks!"  Our conversation continued for  few minutes as i explained my problems with dryness.  Later in the visit she complained about her dry hands. so i suggested Aquaphor , using it at night sure does help.
Have to go back next Tuesday so the Doc can check on my toes. (He lazered  two "mommas" ) I'll have to see if she took my suggestion.  Would be a good opportunity to share some pamphlets that I have.

One never knows when the door of opportunity will open up.  Good for you!

It's too bad the doctors are governed by the patient confidentiality issues that they can't share with us the names of fellow Sjogren's patients that they see in their office(s).

Did you get your pamphlets from the Sjogren's Syndrome Foundation?

quilt4fun,

Good for you!  Isn't it great when these opportunities to educate others arise?  I hope your feet are on their way to recovery.
Let us know how the last appt. went for you (if you like.)

Take care,
Melinda

I took a packet of info  called, "Defy the Dry", from the national org. ( part of the volunteer awareness ambassador program).  He said he would share it with his other  patient the next time she came in.  He seemed grateful that I was willing to share information.
The toes are still red and sore, but healing. Will take another week or so before new skins starts growing back.

quilt4fun,

Isn't that great when a doctor is willing and grateful to share information??  ;) I have a fantastic PCP and may just take him some info., too.  You've inspired me!

I hope your sore toes are healing well, and not too painful. Take care of those tootsies.
