I was tehre about20 minutes when I saw a buck coming through the thicket,, once it cleared it I knew it wasent legal to shoot it,, it needs at least 4 points on one side,, so in comes this bucks,, right up to the ladder,, looks right up at me and goes back to eating,, and me withut a camara,,, and to make matters worse,, whenI got home, I realzed I had left my quiver up there,, I was not about to go back up there
So I get home and teh new ladder stand I ordered from cabelas had arrived,, I opened the box and of course the bag holdnig the nuts and bolts had broken open with half of them missing,, WHO PACKS THIS STUFF,, and do they have gorillas handling this stuff,, I mean my last generator was broke, got a new one last firday,, looks it was tossed off a 10 story buiding,, I have been known to open stuff in the store to make sure its all there,, making my sons walk away in embaressement,, now they do it becasue there sick of ordering stuff andhalf ot its missing or broke,,

Glad that you got up in a tree and was able to see a buck.  It was cute the way it came over and looked at you. Maybe it was someones pet!!!

I know that you will go back and get your quiver cause all men just love to get out in nature.

Hunting season starts on Saturday and my hubby, his friend and our youngest son go to the woods close to us. The old guys drive their cars up as close as they dare and then go sit and wait. I told him he better not shoot a deer this year cause we (his friend included) are in to bad a shope to do any butchering. Hubby looks at me like he can't believe what I just said.

I told him to give it to the son. Hubby isn't to eat all that red meat anyway!!!! Hubby had plowed a fair amount this year (this is always the best weeks he has all year--this year he was in the hospital before he started plowing) and he saw only 1 pheasant. There is about a 50% drop in the population because of the last 2 winters and all the rain this spring.

Also, hubby didn't see any deer and that is really, really rare. He doesn't know what is going on. Last year was pretty sparse for the hunters so I am thinking it must be the bad winters. Funny thing is these past couple of winters were nothing compared to those in late 70's and early 80's.

As to who is packing this stuff---who knows, but double checking anything is not in their job description. Irish ;D

In my youth I did a good job of hitting targets with a bow. I never shot any animals. I loved the target shooting.

While looking for a new hobby, I checked into the cost of bows and arrows. I decided it was too expensive for me.

Good luck with your hunting. As I was taught "Kill, Never wound"

My husband calls me Annie Oakley because I'm a crack shot with a bb gun and bow. I also looked into bow shooting (not hunting) as a hobby but could only find compound bows instead of the old fashioned kind. And then I remembered how much my arm would hurt when I would >TWANG!< it with the string.....   :o

You do wonder about how they pack stuff.
IF there is ANY damage or accident they ought to At Least have an explanation letter with the shipment or let you know somehow prior to or when receiving it..

I remember working at a company where I helped in the shipping dept. We got a big "stove size" box in and "I am not kidding!" it was all held together with duct tape and baling wire and looked like a tornado dropped it!  Needless to say, all the parts were damaged and these were all heavy equipment pieces that would take a lot to damage. We got heck from the customer on that too who needed it ASAP for their crusher.

SITH ,  Did you go out bow hunting or regular hunting this weekend?

Today was opening deer season in our part of the state. Hubby went and sat in his stand all dayand saw nothing, nothing---except, when he went to relieve himself and a skunk walked within 10 feet of him. He said the skunk never even looked his way. Which was a good thing because if he had seen hubby I think I would have had to scrub him with tomato juice.

I think the reason that skunk didn't see him was that the skunk was on the right side of him as the wind has been blowing 30 plus miles per hour all day. It is just howling right now.

They did not see one deer. This is really odd. The last two years the deer herd here has been down. Hubby was out plowing for 3 weeks and never saw one deer during that time and only 1 pheasant. Must be global warming!!!!irish ;D

The Telephone Pioneers have had a number of projects over the past years dealing with handicap hunting and fishing. They have made handicap accessible docks and piers. They have also made hunting stands for a couple of VA homes and groups.

Since my wife has not been into this, we have not participated locally. These projects are north America wide. You may have local groups in your area that can help you get out to hunt and fish. In some cases the Pioneers partner with the local Department of Natural Resoures (DNR) and the local Legion or DAV.

I remember that the Pioneers have in the past arranged for several events per year. As the phone companies have changed participation has decreased. There are chapters around the world as evidenced at their annual international convention.

I remember from one of these events how much Joe L. enjoyed it. He was in his mid 20's confined to his chair for years from MD. He had a Treac and O2. He could not hold the Rod and Real with out help but that first little sun fish brought him so much joy that it was contagious.

I got into archery many years ago as a hobby (bow hunting would be a bit awkward as I'm a vegetarian... ;)). I got a Ragim Victory, which I like. Its a decent basic bow. Haven't used mine in a couple years, since I haven't been able to figure out a good, safe place to set up a couple targets since we moved. I had a nice little range set up in back of our old house.

Dear SITH,

The key is this:

The bad stuff that happens (things packed badly, broken stuff) is not a plot against you.

Go with it, relax a little.

You take everything so personally.

See the glass as half full of champagne and made of crystal!

Hugs

Elaine

Hubby and our boys have hunter around here for 30 years. There used to be a lot of deer and there used to be way too many deer hunters. And some of these deer hunters didn't always play by the rules. Sort of liked to think they had special privileges on where they could hunt.

Anyway, way back then when we were all younger and healthier we used to butcher our deer and cut it up and grind it and mix it with pork and stuff it in the casings. We had a smoke shack out back and would smoke our own sausage. We did not put that red seasoning in it ( I think it was called madagascar) because we did not like it. It was seasoning and a preservative and we could buy it from our local butcher.

We used brown sugar and several other spices and did the smoking and then froze the sausage. That was the best Sunday night supper. Cook it up in a skillet with some water and have hot stewed tomatoes with butter and sugar. Yum Yum. Man, I could eat some right now. The last time we smoked sausage both hubby and I didn't feel good(back in the 90's I think) and we had all we could do to get that smoking done. Had to check the rings every hour as there was such a downdraft that it took way longer than we it should have. It about killed my husband as he lost so much sleep. The good old days. Irish ;D
