It's getting to be that time of the year - when all the retailers try to outdo each other and try and entice you into their stores to spend your money.
I saw an article that said several stores are having Black Thursday. Toys "R Us is opening at 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and Target and Macy's opening at Midnight on Thanksgiving Day.
I've only been to one Black Friday and that was enough for me!! There's something about that mad adrenalin rush to get into the store and nab the sale item that turns people into maniacs (not to offend anyone who might go to these sales, but I've witnessed it first hand and seen news stories on TV and in the newspaper about this). The biggest problem is there is so few actual items in the store at that "bargain" price that causes all the ruckus. If you're not one of the first ten people in the store, forget it, there won't be any of that item left.
There have been people who died from being trampled by the crowds when the doors open. Sad . .. very sad that people have to behave like this.
So . . . for those of you who dare brave these sales . . . it will be here soon! I imagine some of you will stay home and just shop online. Bet the internet lines will be busy!!!

I only go to Joanns to get fabric now. It is very busy but people have always been kind. I go with my friend & my mom & we have fun & are home by breakfast. I get fleece for my blankets super cheap & I have a teacher card so I get another 15% off! I'm also buying flannel this year to make pajama pants.
I could not stand going to one of the big toy stores this year, did it once & it was ok but crazy & rude people!
I do need a new washer & dryer though so I'm watching Sears & hoping I can get a good deal without getting there at 6 am Fri!

This Canadian is envious of your Black Friday sales. :( Although I don't think I'd do well with the crowds.
I am one of those people who would starve before they would go to one of those sales. I can't stand all the people and the noise. Actually, I have often thought about it and there is nothing I want bad enough to put myself through that misery. If I did want it I would go without it. But, I am no fun. Irish ;D
I did it once years ago before i got sick,, it was something I will never consider doing again,, it was at Walmart,, I was scared I was going to get trampled over by the hordes looking for a good deal,, now there was some deals,, but i dont think it was worth being up at 2am and camping out in front of a cold store,,
I stay home.
I usually have to work the day after Thanksgiving. :P
My wife works in retail,, and they NEVER were open on thanksgiving,, this year tehre making everyone work from 9am to 6pm,, my sons are going to take a gas grill over to the store and start to make a turkey,, and set up a table for employees to sit at,, its a jab at the company that for one day they should put rofits aside and give the familys a day off,, and tehy have to work on black friday too,, be there at 5am,, and shes been thee for 23 years,, its a shame
- Only did black friday once. Before I was sick. Never again. Too many rude people and ... now that I'm sick ... WAY TOO MANY GERMS.
- Black Thanksgiving ... that's just sick. It's a symptom of a disease that's infected the world. The whole reason for the holiday is lost. I find it vile.
For the last 2 years my sons brew a 20 gal pot of coffee a box of costco individual creamers and sell a cup of coffee for 1.50. They leave when store managers get there but they have made close to 200.00 last year. People camped out for hours
But this year they are talking about expecting the "wall street sit-in" crowds causing issues with these thanksgiving day store openings.
I for one have had a hubby who works nights and always works thanksgiving, christmas eve and christmas day. (Electrician keeping ur home lit and warm) So I really feel for those families who are loosing family so others can spend money shopping?! So sad!
:) Order on line and roll over and go back to sleep. :)
There is nothing I want bad enough to torture myself to do that!!
I am with Joe and do all my shopping on line!
Ok, "Black Thursday" seems just wrong somehow.
I've never done the Black Friday sales either. There's nothing I want that badly to get up at 4 a.m., brave the cold, the crowds, or the noise for. Maybe I'm no fun.
For those who like it and enjoy it, we all have our own thing, so go for it and I wish you great deals. It's just not my "cup of tea." ;) I'll be ordering a few things online like I usually do.
I see that Walmart has been added to the list of Black Thursday retailers with "specials".

I think I went once years ago and that was enough. I don't care for the crowds, waiting for items to be restocked or waiting in line 1/2 hr just to pay for it.
Yeah that is CRUMMY making employees work on Thanksgiving. >:( I also agree it is the $$$. Bad enough they have to come in at 3am to get ready to open at 5am. Course I believe I heard once of some store that opened at 12:01am day afer Thanksgiving. ::) I hate them having all the Christmast stuff up already. Sorry I am just not in the "Christmas spirit" yet and I feel the retailers are pushing me.
Where I work I always work the day prior to and day after a holiday unless it is a weekend. I am single w/no immediate family so my working gives someone else the time to be with their families. Kinda my gift to them I guess.
ALSO, when I am out shopping during the holidays I can stop at a bunch of stores and the minute I hit the door on each store they are playing the SAME Christmas song. Urrrrr ???
I went shopping the day after Thanksgiving only one time and that was more than enough. That was when my son was about 10. He's now 34. With SJS, I get tired too easily and crowds really bother me. I just can't imagine what all the hurry is to get present when we still have a month to do it. The only present I really do shop for is my granddaughter and then I shop on QVC allot. It just too tiring to go to all the stores. I think they hurrying us to much when we just had Halloween and now all the Christmas stuff is out.
A good day to stay home! We avoid it!!
The madness is about to begin!! ::)
Wow . . . the newspaper today weighed a ton with all the ads in it!! I didn't EVEN bother to look at them.
I know the retailers are hoping to make some $$$ with these "deals" - I just hope the people who are there shopping don't go waaaaay into debt by spending more than they can afford.
There's no way I'm heading out for this "event". Insert the icon here with the little man going . . . whew! ;)

I totally agree quilt4fun and bucky. No extreme shopping for this girl. There's nothing I want THAT bad.
What about this Cyber MONDAY I keep hearing about? I think is is supposed to do with online shopping?
I work all day Monday and overtime then too. I sure can't go online to shop at work. We are blocked like most places. AND after 10 hrs on the computer all day, going on the computer to shop after work is definitely not appealing to me!
I did Black Friday shopping. Like I said, I only go to Joann Fabrics every year. It was very busy as usual but also like usual everyone was kind & helpful to each other! There were a lot of polite people there & we had a great time. I got many bolts of flannel & fleece for 1.49 a yard or cheaper as well as a paper cutter that was regularly $19.99 for 4.78! I go with my friend & my mom & it's a fun tradition now.
I will NOT go to some of the other store where people are actually hurting each other to save a buck. If Joanns ever gets out of control I will stop going there too.
My hubby hates Black Friday but my washer died so he thought he would go try to get a deal on a washer/dryer pair at HHGregg. He left at 10:00 pm Thanksgiving night with a thermos & turkey sandwich. He called me at 1 am saying that it was crazy busy but he was in line early & the weather was pleasant. He got the last ticket for the pair & they were delivering them! Hubby said people were nice & he lent his gloves to a lady in line who returned them at the door opening. I got my washer/dryer pair at 50% off & I love them. I would not have paid full price & really just wanted my old one fixed but the repair man said it wasn't worth the cost since it was so old. HOWEVER, my hubby will NOT be doing another Black Friday trip unless another major appliance dies right before Thanksgiving. He hated the chaos & yes he encountered very rude people.
Was my washer/dryer deal worth it? Well, hubby made it home safe & I guess time will tell how long it lasts but it sure cleans great & saves a ton of water :D
As for Joanns, I'll be returning next year. As long as I can take a 3 hour nap afterwards!

He he long live online shopping.
I get annoyed walking in stores when there isn't a sale on, I am about 5.9 (175cm not sure I got conversion right) and one would think most people could see me from miles away, especially if I am wearing heels.
But it seems little old ladies think I am sort sort of bouncy castle pillar and keep bumping into me and then being all shocked that it was a person they crashed into.
Makes me wonder if tall women get breasts just to use as airbags for the people who bump into them. ^_^;
Carie - sounds like you got some good Black Friday deals! ;D
I wouldn't think JoAnn Fabrics would have people grabbing from each other and pushing and shoving. Although, if you get those crafty ladies all in one spot and wanting to get the best bargain . . . . ;) Just kidding!!
You will always have a Black Friday reminder of how you got your washer & dryer. Enjoy your new washer & dryer. :D
