Okay all, let's see what you're watching on the silver screen....
I just saw "The Thing", and it had some good visual effects and a twist or two, other than a few of the actors really doing a good job, I'm not very impressed (going to have to get the sound track though). I liked the very "first" one better (the 1951 "The Thing From Another World"), and even liked the 1982 Carpenter remake better. Can't tell I like SCIFI/horror can you? ;)
If you've seen it, what do you think about it? Or if you've seen another move lately, let us know what you think (I like going to the theater when I can (just have to bring a heavy sweater to stay warm :-\)).

The last movie i went to see was the SMURFS with my grandchildren and we had a wonderful time, I have never heard so many children laugh so much in a cinema before. It was really good.
This was not on the silver screen but I have also just finished watching for the third time the set of 3 movies of the LORD OF THE RINGS.
The scenery in it is just lovely I find it to a real escapism, and it won't be last time that i will watch it. ;D

The 1951 "Thing" version was filmed at Hector Air Port in Fargo, ND. The community I grew up in.

I saw the original but not the new one yet. My last movie was Devil. Someone told me it would scare the bejeebers outta me but it didn't. The movie before that was the last Harry Potter movie. I LUV those HP movies. I like the escapism too.
With the cost so high of going to a movie. Even the cheap matinee when you add a snack and drink, I usually wait and purchase the DVD of the one I want to see. To reduce the cost of the DVD, I let our kids and friends watch it also.
The latest was Green Lantern.
Thats so neat Joe! Filmed in your home town? Wow!
Yeah, I sure know what you mean about the cost. Yikes, and I saw the matinee! Oh well, once in a while ain't too bad (that noise you're hearing is my poor wallet hollerin! ;) :D).
I do have a nice DVD collection, mainly blue ray...good stuff (their cost is almost as bad as going to the theater)!

As much as I love SciFi and movies, it's surprising, I haven't seen The Thing yet. I really want to. Loved the John Carpenter version. I thought Kurt Russell was great in it. I'm glad to hear the new one has good special effects.
I guess the holiday blockbusters will be out soon. I'm not much on Christmas movies though. Generally, the short on aliens, explosions and special effects.
We recently saw The Ides of March with George Clooney
and The Big Year with Owen Wilson, Jack Black and Steve Martin.
I love movies.

Oh my bloodless, I too like the Carpenter version, but still have that warm spot for the original one (this is from a person that loves the old 1967 SciFi "Five Million Years to Earth" movie). What is your favorite SciFi movie?
Oh gosh Carolina, a friend says that "The Ides of March" is really a good movie, going to have to check it out in the next week or two.... I've not heard of "The Big Year", and what's it about if you don't mind my asking?

I'm a little embarrassed, but here goes. I am looking forward to seeing the Adam Sandler movie "Jack and Jill" in November. I don't know why. It just looks very funny. And who can't use a good laugh? ;D ;D ;D
Don't be embarrassed...Adam Sandler can be pretty funny in my opinion....and your right...it's always great if we can get a good laugh in! :)
The Big Year is about the year that birders decide to see the most birds in North America, different species that is, or whatever they are. Sigh, shows you what I know. It's a competition with all the other birders doing their 'big year in that year'.
I thought it was hysterical, and John just kept wondering how anyone would be so crazy as to want to travel frantically all over North America to see at least 750 species of birds.
It's unusual and funny, I thought.
And I liked The Ides of March, tho' it isn't a perfect movie.
I've seen the Jack and Jill movie previews and it does look hysterical.
I always want to see everything, but with grandkids I wind up seeing things like Rio and Mr. Popper's Penguins.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon for the fifth time. Call me dorky but I'm a fan!
Not a movie, but my daughter's fiance was in a play last weekend called "Terminator the Second." It's a re-telling of Terminator-2 using lines from Shakespeare. I laughed so hard! The guy who played the terminator affected an Austrian accent like Ahh-nuld.
Toward the end of the show there was an explosion and they had confetti blast out of some kind of confetti cannon. When I got home, I had confetti inside my bra.
A night to remember! 8)
Bridesmaids. OMFG it was hilarious. (Warning: crude SNL-type humour and one crazy scene at the end. Do not watch with kids!)

"Go to a fight club?"
"No, we ARE the fight club."
That movie was hilarious!

That sounds awesome!!
It was! It was very entertaining and really a whole lot better than I'd anticipated. Hopefully, the production won't end with the final curtain in Nashville....

My hubby and I rented off comcast the other night. A movie called Melancholia with Kirsten Dunst, Kieffer Sutherland, and the guy off True Blood (Eric, which, by the way, ROCKS!!!). That was beyond words, the most BIZARRE movie I've ever wasted money on.
Then you've never seen Joe Pesci's "8 Heads in a Duffel Bag."
Yes, Bridesmaids was hilarious! It was an unexpected treat. ;D

Never heard of it. I'm tempted but in response to Melancholia, I ain't so sure.
I've not seen Melancholia, but it might be worth watching when it comes to daytime TV (I'm too cheap! ;)).
I did see 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag and I laughed a lot (also laughed at certain parts of The Exorcist; what can I say, I have a strange sense of humor when it comes to some movies).

I had a new experience in movies. There is a place called The Alamo Draft House. While you watch the movie they have waiters to serve you food...real restaurant food. Each row of seats has a long table in front of it (full length of row), then a step down and a walk area for the waiters so they don't block your view when delivering your food. It's a full size theater but with walk rows and table it only holds about 1/3 the people.
It's the greatest twist on dinner & a movie. The prices for both movie and food are very reasonable (although the popcorn and candy are still steep IMO)...and the food is great. They also have wine tasting events, horror night, PJ parties for kids movies (with bottomless cereal served). Just lots of fun. We saw Ides of March here and had a great time.
I've heard of that place Anita! I'm told that it's a pretty neat place to go to see a movie! The next time that I'm in the area I must stop there, it sounds like a lot of fun! :D
Isn't this also the place where that one gal who was texting while the movie was showing was thrown out of the theater, then called up and left that rambling/vulgar message? I thought it was funny that the theater used it as an advertisement to not text while the movie is playing! ;D

Yes Patze. You're right about the texting. They take talking and texting quite serious and give you the boot. The ad about texting was pretty good.
