I went to my Gp with ear pain and fullness and he sent me to an ENT. He says that I have TMJ which is causing the discomfort in my ear. I have had this problem with my left ear for several years and this is the first time that I have been told that I have TMJ. I was given a nose spray (Astelin) and was told that this would help with my ear. It doesn't seem to work very well.
Does anyone else suffer from this and what do you do for it?

I do suffer from ear pain but mine is from a bout of viral meningitis I had when I was 20. I'm now 90%deaf in my left ear and about 60 in my right. But my ears have hurt ever since that awful 3 weeks in 1984. Nothing helps and the tinnitus is getting worse. Nothing for me to do.
before i was diagnosed with sjogrens i was examined by an oral surgeon who said i definately had tmj, but because part of the pain i was describing did not match he did mri and i had imflammation of salivary glands, it was that causing most of my pain.
i still believe though i may have tmj on one side as sometimes get a different type of pain there and that side of my jaw clicks.
my dentist said in my case it was caused by grindining my teeth at night and he made me a night splint to prevent it.
I was recently diagnosed with TMJ. I take Tramadol for the pain when it gets too bad and my meds were changed from Amitriptyline to Lyrica-still waiting to see any change in anything with that! My dentist and PT recommend jaw exercises-gently opening my mouth for a cm at a time, holding that position, then opening further.Don't over stretch as you can cause more damage-and then closing the same way.
Have you lost range of motion? I was measured and found out I've lost over 50% now. You're meant to be able to comfortably put 4 fingers stacked in your mouth...Some PT's specialise in this area so it's worth a look x
