Hi :)
Tomorrow morning a colleague and I are taking 9 young people 14/16yrs. for a week on a canal barge. I won't have internet access so will not be around. I look forward to see how the kids make out with no Facebook for a week and poor mobile signals! (cell phone)
We were meant to have another colleague with us but something cropped up and she can't come. I think it's quite a big barge - potentially sea-going - although we're going inland not out to sea.
Wish me luck!
Take care - Scottie :)
Wow Scottie...
My mind boggles.
I hope you have lots of adults in the support team.
I hope you have some good weather.
Do you get off the barge frequently? Tour places?
Let us know how it goes.
Bon Voyage
Hugs
Elaine
Good luck Scottie and enjoy the week!
You have done this before...I know you can do it again! Cant wait to hear all about your adventures when you get back! :)
Take care...
Hope your trip goes well. Take along what "supplies" you need.
My mother used to always laugh at me because when we went on a trip no matter how long (longest was 6 days), she'd say I was packing like we were going on a Safari. LOL ;D I had bandages, antibiotic ointment, diarreaha med, Ibuprofen, acedeminfin, vaseline, etc etc. I'd always know the location of the nearest drugstore, gas station, grocery store and restaurant too. I carried a list of all our meds and phone numbers of various people plus a long distance phone card. You can't prepare for everything, but durn there is nothing that says you can't try! ;)
Good Luck Scottie! Hopefully, the kids will be on their best behavior for the week. :D
I'd sleep with a life vest on! ;) And . . . don't leave anything laying around or make sure your stuff is somewhere secure - if ya know what I mean. ;)
Will look forward to hearing all about your adventures when you get back.
Have fun!
Bucky
Good luck, Scottie!
Hope you all have a good week and succeessful trip. We'll be looking forward to hearing all about it when you return. Hope you have fun! :D
Melinda
Bringing up the rear as usual! :D
Have a great week and good luck on keeping the sanity! ;) ;D

Scottie, Here I am waiting on the dock with a warm blankey, a hot cup of tea and a lawn chair for you to sit in. I can't imagine how you are able to do this.
Just being out of my normal habitat and around the dampness that water brings is enough to through me into a downway spiral. Please come home safe and take to your bed to rest up. Irish ;D
irish,
Don't sit out there too long! ;) What a sweet thought for you to wait with a blankey, hot tea and chair.
Thinking of you, Scottie! I hope all is going well!
Cheryl
Hope your sea legs are holding out Scottie. You are very brave/mad to do this but I know it is part of your job that you love. Good on you and I hope you have some treats in store for you when you get back. Looking forward to hearing the news! XX Ailsa

Hi everyone! :)
I'm back. I'm tired but overall it wasa a good trip and the other member of staff and I have built a better relationship with the kids for the rest of this year - we hope.
On Wednesday I had to escort one of the kids home. Had to leave the boat, catch a train, put him in a taxi and then catch a train back to the boat. I could have done without it!! He was sent home for 'mutiny' basically. The captain asked him to do something and he point blank refused and was rude with it. The skipper said that either he went or we all went.
There were a few problems with the barge while we were away but they all got fixed but we stayed docked in the one place for longer than planned.
All the kids seemed to really enjoy the experience and all want to go away again sometime this year.
Today I went singing but tomorrow I plan to sleep for at least half the day before work on Monday!!
Thanks for the good wishes. Take care - Scottie :)
Welcome home, Scottie! I'm sure you are happy to be back in your own bed.
We missed you!
Cheryl
Welcome Home! ;D
I'm glad to hear that things went well (except for the one who was sent home).
I lived on a ship once for a week way back in the 1970's in Mystic, Connecticut with the Girl Scouts. Our sleeping quarters were so close together - I think there were three of us that slept with our bunks which seemed like inches apart one on top of the other. Those ships don't have a lot of room.
I bet you are glad to sleep in your own bed with all the conveniences of going to the refrigerator whenever you want, sit in the recliner with your feet up, lay on the couch, etc. Ahhhhh, there's no place like home! :)
Too bad you don't have a couple more days to recoup before work starts again. :(
What kind of food did you eat while on the boat?
Bucky
Scottie,
Welcome Home! :D
We missed you, and it sounds as if your trip went fairly smoothly. (except for Wed.) :P
I'm sure the kids had fun and will look forward to your next adventure.
Glad you're back! Take care and rest up a bit.
Melinda
Welcome back Scottie and I'm sure glad to hear that you had a good time and weren't kicked off the barge! :D
Patze
Welcome Home Scottie...hope you were able to rest today! I agree with Bucky..too bad you didn't have another day or two to really get your rest in and get settled back into your life without worrying about gong back to work right away!
So glad to hear that overall the trip was a success...any good pics this year??
Hi :)
Well I certainly wished I hadn't gone back to work today! After a reasonably pleasant week last week the kids were horrible today - really obnoxious.
The food on the boat was a mix. We went out one night to Frankie and Benny's. We had chicken burgers and salad. We had mince and dumplings (more like your biscuits) We had a pasta bake. There was pizza and spaghetti bolognaise. There was plenty to eat! I tried to be sensible!
I still feel like I could sleep for a week but it's not going to happen!
Take care - Scottie :)
Scottie,
After the kids having fun last week, they really didn't need to "make up" for that today, did they? :P
I wish you some peace and rest sometime soon!
after giving you grief on your return to the classroom, i suggest one day docked from the next trip you take.
if this isnt a consideration this time round warn them the next time they go away that its all 'conditional' as thats what life is, conditional on being a good citizen, a good friend, neighbour and worker and such.
civics thrown in for good measure.
