:) After 5 years of taking meds for Sjogrens and also cancer, I have been sad about my hair for a long time. It's thin and more grey than not. (Well, I haven't seen it without color for years so I can tell a lie on that and it doesn't count.)
You can see my scalp almost any where you look at my hair and I am 5' so almost anyone over 7 or 8 y/o can see the top of my head.
I do get my hair styled, colored and cut but after a few days it takes lots of time to keep it looking even just fair. Many times I stay in the house all day because I just look awful and no strength to fix my hair. There are not many places that sell wigs where I live. One reputable hair salon and a couple of foreign dealers downtown. I have been in those stores and don't know as I'd want to buy and wear something from there.
So, my wig is shortish, sort of pixie-like cut. It is very real looking and red in color with a bit of light and dark mix. I usually get my hair colored similar color. Natural color is dark brown and this is a deep auburn so it looks very natural. Hubby said I looked 20 years younger. CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT? It is very lightweight and comfy and takes nothing but a little fluffing to fix it. I paid $275 plus accessories. If I want to buy another later on, I can try one from the internet as they have them about $50 or so. If anyone is condisering this--try it. Lucy...
Lucy,
I'm so glad you love the wig, and I am sure you are lovely!! :D ;)
I think as women we have such strong emotions about our hair or the lack of it. So, I'll say GO GIRL! When we can do something for ourselves that makes us feel great, we need to go for it.
Now that you may want to get out more, and your husband is being so complementary, I suppose he needs to get plans together to take you out on the town! 8)
I know just how good it feels to go and have my hair cut.
So you must be feeling over the moon with your new hair style.
I have lost so much hair that I now only have 1/3 of the volume left the next time I go in to have it cut I think that I will have to pay a search fee to my hairdresser just to find it. :-[
I dare say that I will have to look a wig so I will keep it in mind.
Thankyou so much
Cheryl
Good on you Lucy!!!
A dear friend of mine lost her hair last year due to Breast Cancer Chemo and she was able to get a few wigs through a Wig "Library" system, run by a breast cancer charity in Melbourne, Australia.
Whenever she felt like a change, she could go and "borrow" a new wig. Great idea.
That's awesome! I'm so proud of you for buying something that makes you feel good!
So sweet of your hubby too. :D

Yay, Lucy!! I'm glad you like your new hair. ;D
Where did you end up getting it? At the local salon?
I
never leave the house without using my powder from Joan Rivers. ;D I've thought about a wig . . . but, I'd want to try it on first. Like you, I don't even know if we have anywhere here local that sells wigs.
Now some questions: What kind of "accessories" come with it? Will you be able to wash and set it, or will you have to have a hairdresser do that?
I bet your husbands comment just lifted your spirits. Yay for him!! I agree with Meld, your hubby should take his younger looking wife out on the town and show her off!! ;) Did he know you were going to get a wig or did you just surprise him?
Enjoy!!
Bucky
I also have the Joan Rivers hair powder and my hubby dabs that on when I need it. This is a man who hunts and fishes and lives outdoors and you would never guess him doing this kind of thing.
My wig can be washed by hand. I cannot cook with it on because heat from the oven can melt it. It does not need to be "set" and I can just shake it out and mostly fix with my fingers. If I wanted I could set on dry foam rollers (no heat) but it shouldn't need much care at all. You would be surprised at how light it is. It is not like the heavy, tight wigs we wore in the 60's and 70's. Lucy
The last wig that I wore was for a costume party. It was so hot, after the judging I took it off. My hair is thinning but not very much for my genetics.
Oh how I remember those. I wore a short one or a long one depending on my mood, back then!!! A pixie and a long page boy. I guess I'm dating myself, too.
I'm glad you found one that makes you comfortable. Have fun w/it!!!
Though my hair is ok so far - I am a shortie too at 5 ft tall. Guess I am the runt of the littler as my relatives are all taller, even the 10 yr olds.
I just keep telling myself I am going to be one really cute little ole lady. ;) ;D 8)
Im glad you have a new wig !!!!!
Besides Sjogrens, Fibromyalgia, Bipolar, and Borderline Personality ... Ive also pulled my hair out since iM 8 yrs old. It is called Trichotillomania.... My hair pulling is getting worse over the years and half my hair is gone so I wear a handkerchief EVERY DAY! .. It is so hot where I live and the dryness on my scalp burns and itches.
Ive been thinking of buying a wig, but am afraid my scalp will itch and burn even MORE and also wonder if the wigh will be too hot ?
.. Id appreciate your advice:)
My mom got a wig after she lost her hair from the cancer treatments. She hated wearing it. It was itchy and hot. She lives in Phoenix. So I don't know if you would be able to stand it Virgi, since your scalp already burns and itches.
Isn't the Trichotillomania considered a compulsive behavior, similar to OCD? Aren't there drugs that would help?
Wow Lucy, your "new" hair sounds wonderful!!! Lucky you!!
And I love it when the hubby dabs the powder on! :D

Lucy
I'm really pleased for you. The wig has given you such a boost, so it is well worth the dollars. Can we see a picture?

Lucy,
Yes, I agree, you do look lovely in your new wig!
Cheryl
Eye,
Paula Young has wonderful wigs of all kinds.
You can buy a bunch of color swatches for very little, to help you choose.
AND YOU CAN RETURN THEM>
At least some of them
Her products are on line.
I used to wear a hair piece, pull my own hair back and up and then clip on a flowing top mounted piece like a big pony tail, but nicer.
Soooo easy. Now my hair is too short for that.
Don't know how I could stand a full wig, I've worn them for costumes, and they make me sweat even worse than I normally do, which is horrible.
Glad you are lovely.
We all should get all the aids we need to make our lives fun!
Hugs
Elaine
