Title: Evoxac
Post by: kellyptyler on August 20, 2011, 09:53:24 AM
Am I right about what I'm reading...Evoxac has a generic now??? If that's true I'll go back on it. With only the name brand I had a $50 co-pay and had to stop taking it.

I hadn't heard that, but if it is true it will totally make my day!  It helps me so much so I have buckeled down and paid for it, but money is really tight so a generic cost would be so welcome!  going to go search and see if this might be true!  fingers crossed!

Sure hope it is true! Evoxac isn't covered by my insurance! It's worth the price but to pay alot less would be great!

I haven't heard this but I think it was approved in 2000 so it is due to come out as generic.  I certainly would be happy as it cost me an arm and a leg but I couldn't go without it.  Keep us posted.

How long after a new med is approved before generics are able to be used?

I think 10 to 15 years.

Just read an article online that was written a year ago that said that the parent company that produces Exovac had come to an agreement with the generic drug producing company to start producing the generic version of this drug (called Cevimeline) in the 4th quarter of 2012.
See below for article:

Daiichi Sankyo settles patent litigation with Apotex for Evoxac(R) (Cevimeline HCl)

Aug 05, 2010 (Datamonitor Financial Deals Tracker via COMTEX) --

Daiichi Sankyo, Inc. and its parent company, Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd., have settled patent litigation with Apotex, Inc. and Apotex Corp. involving Apotex's challenge to Daiichi Sankyo's US Patent Number 5,340,821 ('the '821 patent') covering Evoxac(R) (Cevimeline HCl), a drug used to treat symptoms of dry mouth in patients with Sjogren's syndrome.

All the partners are pharmaceutical companies. Daiichi Sankyo and Apotex Corp. are based in the US, while Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. is based in Japan and Apotex is based in Canada.

Under the agreement, Apotex has received a license to the '821 patent that will permit Apotex to commercially launch its generic Cevimeline HCl product in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Thanks Daisy for the article.  Good news for sure as Evoxac is very expensive.

I can't sleep and it's 4 am.  Just read this and am sooooo happy.  I am one struggling to pay for meds and Exovac is one and Lyrica is another that cost too much.  The two I need the most.

Hubby and I were at an outdoor concert fundraiser tonight.  He didn't know it was head-banging loud rock n' roll.  LOL.  I did.  It cost $10 to get in so we had to stay for a couple of hours.  Now my mind wants to r n' r and my body can't.  Thanks for this info on meds.  Lucy

Whew, glad to hear that it's going generic!  Anything to help the old wallet! :D

I'm with you Lucy, there are days that I just want to dance the night away; its just too bad that the body just wants to lay down. :(

Title: Try Salagen (pilocarpine)
Post by: bloodless on August 22, 2011, 02:17:44 PM
I couldn't afford evoxac any more either. The doc switched me to salagen. Pilocarpine is the generic for it. It works just as well.
