A little over 20 years ago, I broke my leg and had surgery. A rod and pins were placed in my calf to repair a tibia/fibula fracture. In the years following, under my kneecap, near the incision site, a bony protrusion began to grow in sort of a pointy shape. This got worse over the years, looked odd, and made it painful to kneel in Church or like, when cleaning the bathtub. A minor inconvenience, but it was really annoying to me! Doctors did not know what it was, or think it was anything notable enough to investigate.
So now I've been on Plaquenil for 13 months and the protrusion has clearly gotten smaller and rounder, there is much less of a pointed shape to it anymore. I like having a more normal round shaped knee, after 20 years with a pointy one! :D
So is it possible Plaquenil had some therapeutic effect on my knee joint? Or just a coincidence?

That's remarkable! I don't know whether the Plaquenil has helped, but it may well have done, Do you think it's maybe reduced the inflamation?
I think my joints have improved in the past few months. I've been taking Plaquenil for just about a year now.

I don't have any arthritis that I know of and I didn't have pain in my knee joint except for the surface pressure pain on that bump when I would try to kneel on it. It seemed like the top part of the tibia was protruding. I've had Xrays and my doctors always said everything healed perfectly.
Steph, you might never know on this one. I think it's possible. I, too broke one leg about 25 years ago and I have a bump in my shin bone and I know this has to be what it is. I broke my ankle and then the smaller bone outside the knee.
I have been on Plaquenil for 4 years but I've had osteoarthritis for a long time. I had one knee replacement about 8 years ago and I need a revision on it and a total also on the other knee.
I would believe that Plaquenil may have improved your knee. Ask your doc, but then they deny half of what we ask them anyhow. About half the time I ask drs a question (especially about SJS) I already know the answer but they fluff my question off.
My rheumy told me that it wouldn't make things go away but I will tell you that my joint issues DID improve! I have been in a small flare recently..probably due to stress..work starting up again (I work in a school..)..But definitely better since starting Plaquenil. I am so glad that you are seeing improvement! :D
My knees would ache on a daily basis....since I have been on Plaquenil they seemed to have improved a great deal!
