Title: Vitamin A drops for dry eyes
Post by: jasonsmith on August 12, 2011, 08:33:03 PM
Does anyone use Vitamin A drops for the eyes? My opthamologist only mentioned using Systane eye drops or Genteal gel. But I know you can also get Vitamin A drops supposidly to help with eye health. But I don't know if that is a waste of money, or if it could cause harm or damage? Or if it is actually beneficial?

I use Systane Ultra, they are lovely. Because of this forum, I started takibg six big cod liver oil pills a day plus three vitamin E each time with it. It makes an enormous difference in my eyes along wity the Restasis drops. If i miss a day or two of the fish oil, my eyes act up.

Hope this helps. I got the cod liver oil at Costo.

I've got Omega 3 and Flax seed. Would I need the cod liver oil as well? Or is that all the same thing?

Have you tried the Vitamin A drops, or something similar? The Vitamin A is to aid in eye health, but I'm sure it does other things as well. I take a daily vitamin and also Vitamin A, E, and some other ones. But wonder if the Vitamin A eye drops would be better for the eye.

You may find this study interesting;

Please remember that while the study is scientifically well planned, the numbers involved are very low, so may not produce a really adequate result as far as global application.

If you decide to give it a try, please let us know how it goes.

I take flax seed oil because I can not tolerate any fish oil. I also take 6-8 ounces of carrot juice per day. My eyes and my body have problems if I do not get carrot juice every day. Carrot juice helps your body create endorphins and is a good source of vitamin A.

One thing they say is you can take TOO much Vitamin A. I'm still kinda hesitant about Vitamin A drops. But plan to keep looking into it.

If you get too much vitamin A you may experience headaches or temporary blindness.

So, what would be better. Vitamin A supplements. Or Vitamin A drops? I already take a multi-vitamin.

I take carrot Juice. I had the migraines from vitamin A supplements. I do not have them with carrot juice.
