Title: Sore Mouth
Post by: sewandsew on May 24, 2011, 03:17:57 PM
You know how your mouth feels when you've eaten too much pineapple?  Well that's what mine feels like lately and I haven't had pineapple.  I seldom stray out of my comfort zone on food.  Anyone else have this problem?

Hi Sewandsew! Yes, i do get the same sore mouth. The sides of my tongue in particular. It comes and goes and I have not identified the foods that set it off, I just keep rinsing with the bioten mouthwash. It helps a little bit.

I also get a sore mouth, tongue and inside my cheeks. What's worse is that it usually precedes or accompanies the swelling in the roof of my mouth and my throat. As I type this message I can't talk or eat, even though I am hungry. I had to wake up at 430 is morning to be at a meeting across town at 700. Therefore, i was pretty sure I'd be paying tonight.

Do you also get raised lines, like scratches that pop up inside your cheeks? It's very bothersome!

Take care,

Kelly

Funny you should mention this... The last couple of weeks, I battled fever blisters on my upper outer lip.  This week my mouth is so sore I can hardly stand it!  I have canker sores, a sore tongue and the roof of my mouth is sore.  I don't know what caused it.  I do feel the fever blisters were after a week of stress.

Thx for your replies and glad not to be alone.  I guess we just have some quirky problems with Sjs.

Tea Tree Oil Toothpaste is a lifesaver for keeping fungal infections at bay and also helps to heal the mouth. Look for it in your natural food store isle.

Here is what a Sjoggie wrote back to me after I suggested she try  a bottle of Tea Tree Oil that can be purchased very reasonally at Wal-mart.  She gave me permission to forward reply to other Sjoggies:

Here goes: Hello:

Yes, I am the one who used Tea Tree Oil for mouth ulcers and got better.  Let me see if I can find our communications.

I put a drop on a Q-Tip and dap on the ulcer, maybe 2 times a day.

I also used it to get rid of yeast in my mouth- works really well, I scrape off the thick stuff, use Tea Tree Oil on a Q-tip, my saliva flow like crazy, but the yeast infection was gone in 2-3 days.  Fastest ever.

Thank you for giving me this tip.  You are welcome to post this response if you like.

Good luck to each of you that posted with issues.

When my mouth starts to feel a little sore I go to town with Biotene mouth spray. It helps and the soreness goes away if I use it consistently. I would say my mouth is only a little dry, though. Not severe.

I also have found a great mint tea that has rose hips and lemon peel in it. It seems to help my mouth stay moist. Not sure why it helps. Maybe the lemon peel? I sip on that throughout the day and it works better than water.
Good luck!

It's a constant problem for me too. It seems like my mouth and throat always hurt. I have several symptoms of Burning Mouth Syndrome.

I try to stay hydrated. There are a couple things I use for some relief. For some reason, drinking tea seems to help. I hold it in my mouth and it soothes.  Also, the Hall's Soothers has something in them that numbs a little. A Popsicle or ice cream is soothing.
I hope you get some relief.

My tongue has been inflamed for a year now. I have had allergy testing etc. I have been to several doctors, they are all baffled but none really seem overly concerned about it. I have searched the internet, with no luck. I have made my own solution of children's liquid benedryl and liquid maalox that I use sometimes before and always after I eat or drink something that especially irritates my tongue. At first when my tongue issues started I quit eating altogether because I thought I was allergic to food. I did find out I have a gluten intolerance. I lost a lot of weight and became very weak and lethargic. But when I found out I wasn't really allergic to the food just having some kind of reaction that was contained to my mouth I started eating again. Certain food are worse than others. Of course fresh fruits and veges are the worst! Anything that is spicy, also! I keep hoping this is just part of the whole auto-immune disease and that eventually it will go into remission!

I've had burning tongue for 2 yrs now.  It's always there but certain foods can worsen it.  My salivary glands all through my cheeks and mouth hurt so badly and I can feel them like little tiny marbles.  The ENT just blows me off and no dr seems to have any interest in this symptom.  So I just live with it like most of my other stuff.  I'm so tired of this.  I have sympathy for anyone going through this too.

Mickey,

Have you had any luck find anything to help you, yet? I haven't been on here in awhile. I get frustrated since it doesn't seem like I have alot of the same problems as most of the others on here. Let me know how you are doing.

Biotene mouthwash burns like a son of gun!!! I notice the toothpaste hurts my mouth after I use it, too. I wonder if it has gluten in it?

Take Care,

I don't know if this will work for anyone else, but, my rheumatologist once told me that when I start getting sores or sore places in my mouth that I need to ask for folic acid.  I have done that and it has really helped.  I still sometimes get a little tender here or there in my mouth, but it has worked for me.
