Title: My Mothers Day Treat.
Post by: kimbo on May 07, 2011, 09:12:09 AM
Yesterday, my husband  wanted to do something for mothers day with me, and this was my choice.

Movies "Water for Elephant's"  nice movie.

Yogurt bar! (happy dance)
My new favorite treat. Has any one else experienced this.

Self serve 15 or so different flavors of yogurt and???lots and lots of serve  up your own topping, like 50 different toppings. I have seen these bars called ?yo-yos?, ?yum Yums,? ?Orange Leaf? is a chain the prices vary. It is an astounding 47 cents an ounce around my area. Yes they weigh you in, and charge you. My advice; do not put your spoon in the bowl till after they weigh.
I get so excited about this, I am fast and furious in action...........
Strawberry yogurt, chocolate yogurt, not to much of each, just to make room for plenty of toppings, I am not into lots of variety. Fresh strawberries, chocolate syrup, and then I stand in front of the hot fudge and wait and wait and wait, while my husband catches up. He is stalled out deciding, evaluating and analyzing, while I stand in front of the hot fudge waiting, because this experience has taught me that.........the hot fudge is going to melt my yogurt while I wait, and wait.... well, you get the picture.   Finally he catches up and his bowl is half as full as mine.
Like I said; do not put your spoon in yet. Set it an the scales.
I sit down and say how much was that total?? unbelievably , astounding grand total of  $9.66.
I round this up and say to my husband, I am $6 and you are $4.
As I am scraping, I mean scrapping the last spoon fulls out of my cup, I hold each one up in the air and say .25 cents and another .25 cents. I told my husband if our dog, Elroy were with us, he could lick it all the way clean and that would be a dimes worth.

Helmets on, mount up and head home.
Happy Day!

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ALL!

Hugs and Blessing, kimbo

Kimbo - sounds like you and hubby had a wonderful Mother's Day outing.   ;D

Your story reminds me of a church friend who would go to Dairy Queen with us and eat his ice cream so fast he would get a "brain freeze".  He'd be sitting there, holding his head, and shoveling the ice cream in as fast as he could.   :o

I'm too "practical" and steer clear of specialty places like you describe.  I think to myself . . . okay, they are going to charge $6.00 a piece for this small container of ice cream, yogurt, or whatever it is.  I could go to the grocery store and buy a whole half gallon for less than that and have leftovers for another time or two.  Like I said, I'm too practical.  There are occasions where you throw practicality to the wind and enjoy the special moment.   ;D

On our recent trip I went to the grocery store and bought a variety of those little individual, single serve cartons of ice cream to take to our hotel for later after dinner ($1.00 a piece).  In theory it was a good idea - little did I know our hotel freezer wasn't cold enough and we ended up with individual cartons of ice cream soup.   ::)  Not quite the same as I had envisioned it when I bought them.

Happy Mother's Day Kimbo!!   ;D

Hugs,
Bucky

Oh my gosh!
I love yogurt bars! They're so much fun! The one we have here has really awesome flavours like Taro and Pomegranate Strawberry (my favourite). I usually go with gummy bears and fruit on mine. :D

I'm still such a little kid at heart. ♥

kimbo,

So glad you had a wonderful treat with your husband!  And yogurt bar=happy dance!  :D  Coffee drinks make me do a happy dance!
My husband took me out for crab legs Fri. night; we splurged.  We hadn't had them for a long, long time and since they were soft and easy for me to eat, I just enjoyed it immensely.  I usually don't get that excited about food, but boy, I did this time! ;D

I had a nice weekend, even though as my husband said, his mother sort of planned our weekend for us.  But we let her... My mother has passed on so she's the only Mom we have left, and we have a good time being with her.
She bought loads of flowers to be planted but she can't work in her yard after a stroke 5 years ago.  So, my husband, his brother and me planted Sat. and then took her to a nice place for dinner she wanted to go.  We got back late and she hates to drive back to her house in the country after dark, so we went with her and stayed the night. (which she loved since FIL is gone) Husband got up and mowed her 2+ acre yard yesterday and then we had a cookout with extended family.

I talked to all three of our kids, so that was good.  Wish we lived closer; 2 are in Ohio and 1 in Kansas.  If I start feeling better I think there will be a "road trip" in my future!

Hey Meld,

I would have loved to seen my Grandbabies, daughter, and SIL, they are in Augusta, Georgia, and we in NW AR.
But we are planning a trip there later this months. Distance!  :'(
Our other daughter and SIL is only an hour and a half away, so they came and we had Mothers Day lunch out.
Sounds like you had a great Mothers Day. I think I would embarrass my self eating crab legs, I end up wearing my food most of the time.
I did face-time with my grandbabies in Georgia, on our handy dandy iphones. Get to see their faces is Great.

Bucky,
My new favorite ice cream is; "Blue Bell Home Made in the Shade",it is their home made vanilla with chocolate fudge swirled in to it. I had my husband and I going from store to store looking for it, we gave up, head back to our small community town, went into our small grocery store.... and there it was on SALE, I stocked up.

Happy Dance in the store.

Has any one tasted "blue bell home made in the shade" ? hmmmm good.

We have an Orange Leaf, AND a Lemon Tree. :D The first one WAS called Orange TREE, until Lemon Tree got wind of it and threatened them. My kids LOVE them. Unfortunately, I do not care for yogurt, so I obviously don't eat at them.  :-\

My treat for the day was my 2 teens and youngest went to a clinic that I clean and did it for me. :D Been having joint isses lately and a BAD burning, nauseated tummy. :(

Yes, I've had the Blue Bell ice cream you mention, and it is good.  There is a Blue Bunny brand, too, so I get them mixed up.  My MIL loves the stuff, but she won't buy it half the time because of the price.  She's so funny; she thinks nothing of spending $250 on plants for her yard last week, or a $30 dinner, but she won't buy $6 ice cream.  ;D

I have a new favorite: Starbucks Java Chip Frappacino and it is awesome!  Coffee ice cream with little dark chocolate chips in it. Mmmmnnn...It's not cheap either, and I need to be frugile but this is worth the price!!

Oh, I got a late Mom's day gift Monday from my son in Kansas. A beautiful little silver bracelet....how sweet! And a card that said "Remember all the stuff you told me as a kid? Could you please repeat that because now I think I GET IT!"  ;D :D He's 30 this year and has grown up a lot in the last couple of years.

Melinda - love the card!!  Funny thing is, it's so true . . . . as a young person you think Mom and Dad are "old" and don't know what they are talking about.  The older the young person gets - the more they realize . . . hmmmm, maybe they DID know something.   :D

I know for myself, I never really appreciated the things my parents did for me, until I had a child of my own.   ;)

Yes, I loved the card and I think it's true for most all of us.  My parents got so much smarter the older I got.  ;D :D

This son has had a difficult time in the last few years. His only child died in 2008 at 13 mths. old after heart surgery and he was distraught and eventually suicidal. I spent a lot of days talking to him, taking calls from his counselor (once we got him into counseling) and telling him life was worth living, and how much we loved him and we would never give up on him. I texted him everyday how I loved him.

He's finally healed from a lot of that. Now he dates a woman with 3 kids; 12, 5 and 4. His baby, our granddaughter Chloe, would have been 4 on May 8th. It seems that his girlfriend and her children have helped him heal so much and he is happier than I've ever seen him. I think he really enjoys giving them the love he wished he could give to his own daughter. I'm so happy for him.

Oh Meld,

I am sad for your son and your family for such a loss. It had to have been hard to recover, all of you together. Good counselors are very valuable in times of grieve and healing.
I am glad you all have come through your grieve and have found happiness.
Being Momma through times as this, is truly fulfilling your call.

Bless you all and your Son,
kimbo

Thank you, kimbo, but please don't be sad for us. We're doing pretty well now.

I really didn't mean to "be a downer" on your thread of happy Mother's Day stories; Chloe's birthday was Sunday and I just started typing my thoughts. She was a beautiful and happy child.
Her death and the months after were some of the most painful of my life. My husband and I grieved as grandparents, and knew our grief had to be tripled by her parents.  It was so difficult seeing my son in so much pain and I felt so helpless.  Not like when he was little, you can't kiss this kind of boo-boo goodbye.

So sweet of you to say that I was fulfilling my call.  I surely hope so. I just did all I knew how; and that was to make sure he knew he was so loved, and that he WOULD make it through, I prayed, I tried to get him help, and I prayed some more.  ;) This went on a good six months.

Over time, the darkness began fading and the light in his big blue eyes returned. I feel so blessed that we didn't lose him, too. He's healed and we have healed, so don't be sad for us.  You can see why I am so excited for him to be happy in life!
Thanks for your kind words.
Melinda

Sometimes you just need to do what the country song says "Love Like Crazy"  ;)
