Title: C-REACTIVE PROTEIN ELEVATED
Post by: sass on April 04, 2011, 08:34:41 PM
In reviewing all my labs from my doctor, I just noticed that my C-Reactive Protein has been elevated for several years!  Isn't this one of the test they run for diagnosing Sjogren's and Lupus??     Why wouldn't the doctor have sent me somewhere sooner?   Also low sodium, low chloride and high calcium     -sass-

CRP is a non-specific test for inflammation, not a diagnostic test for SjS, Lupus or any other disease.

It can be elevated by any inflammation, like arthritis, and isolated elevations can even result from acute infections, but if it's been elevated for years, that would seem to indicate a chronic disease. Depending on how close together your surgeries were, they could even have contributed.

Okay, Thanks.  That makes me feel better.  The test was just telling her I had  inflammation (which I already knew,ha), so she had no reason to send me anywhere else.  Thank you for clearing that up.

I am all new to this and didn't even realize what CRP... people have  talking about till you posted.  8) Sometimes us newbies just follow along reading and eventually we catch on to the dialoge and abbreviations.  lol                                -sass-

After a while, the abbreviations seem to become second nature, but please, if you read one and can't figure it out....ASK!

My sister and I were both nurses, and there were times we seemed to speak completely in alphabetiness (our Dad's term), and had to be reminded that , if we had to spell it out, it probably wasn't a suitable subject for mixed company (also Dad's observation).

I work with a lot of acronyms in my job too and my DH has to keep reminding me that he doesn't intsantly know what I'm talking about.
