Title: Who lives with a snorer?
Post by: Crymeariver on February 11, 2011, 03:59:50 PM
I could gladly kill my hubby who snores, moans, groans, mumbles, vocalizes, and outright talks in his sleep.  I don't have the heart to kick him to the couch when he takes good care of us and is such a hard worker.  Oh, and my toddler snores and groans etc too.  It's like I'm the middle of a snore sandwich.

Hopefully Joe has some secret remedies to suggest.

He, one night, from his side of the bed came a weird pop sound. I could not figure out what this was. I finally turned on my flashlight and he was snoring and then breathing out through closed lips and it was making a pop sound.  ;D
Everyone in my house snores and no one is overweight except me.  I laugh when I go in each bedroom to check on each child and I laugh at the different sounds.  I tried the breathe right strips, nasal washing, shoving my husband's pillow, waking him up an etc...unless they go to the doctor, there is really nothing. Let me know if you find something.

Hi  :)

I actually sleep with a pair of eraplugs next to the bed. I always go to bed later than hubby these days and he is quite often snoring by the time i arrive. The earplugs have been a marriage saver believe me !

take care - Scottie  :)

Count me in. Tired of being tired, and embarrassed about my nighttime frustration (which resulted in kicking and pushing my H), I gave up and went to sleeping in a separate room. Ahhhhh.....better. Since then, I've talked to many friends who do the same----it's more common than you might think.

Oh yes.

I'm w/ Calli - I have to sleep in the guest room!

If my sleep is disturbed by snoring, popping sounds, etc.  I get sick.

Before my youngest had her adenoids out she snored terribly too.  The Dr said if kids snore there is usually some problem w/ adenoids or tonsils.

Raising and waiving her hand...even with the CPAP my DH sleeps on his back and wakes me with his snoring.

I have tried to wake him, prod him, poke him, all to no avail. He's oblivious.   Instead, I move to the couch or guest room and hope I can get back to sleep.

My house is like animal farm!

DH snores, sings and fights in his sleep. I snore. After one terrifying night when he frightened the living daylights out of me, I took up residence in the spare room. Five years on, I'm still there - with visiting rights of course ;) My son snores so loudly when he has had a beer or two that it feels like the house is vibrating.

Kathy-
Too fuuny about you having "visiting rights" as that's what my parents used to say after they moved to seperate bedrooms about five years before my Dad passed away last September.

I'd never heard anyone else use that phrase before. Thanks for the grin ;-)

Dear Cry and others who live with snorers,

Snoring can disrupt your sleep miserably!

I used to wake my husband up, so I get back to sleep before he started snoring again.

Hubby:  "Why did you wake me up?  I was sleeping!"

ME:  "Because you woke me up snoring!"

Hubby:  "Well, let me sleep!  At least one of us could be asleep!"

ME:  "Well, I want that one to be ME once in a while!"

SERIOUS ISSUE!

Snorers often have sleep apnea, when they stop breathing.   It can damage their heart as it tries to compensate for oxygen loss when not breathing.

My husband had heart damage on the right side of his heart.

He would stop breathing for up to a minute!   I'd count to 40 or 50, slowly, waiting to see if he would breathe!

Then a huge snort and he'd breathe and snore again.

I MADE him go for a sleep study and a physical.

He was suffering from severe apnea.

After failing to use the CPAP effectively, he had surgery on his palate, uvula and deviated septum.

Problem solved completely.

Snoring can be life threatening.   If you don't kill him to stop the snoring,  his heart damage may shorten his life.

Weight loss helps too, by the way.

Oh, and he tried all the things you put on or around or in your nose, and I pushed him onto his side constantly.

It's a physical problem, a blockage problem, and must be solved either by added air pressure (CPAP) or surgery.

Keep us posted.

Kisses

Elaine

I do I do!!!!

My little english bulldog who is my constant companion is a loud snorer and she sleeps in a big armchair right beside my bed.  Neither my husband nor myself are snorers and hubby has even taken to sleeping with a pillow on top of his head that he pullls down around his ears to drown out her snoring, but that's not the worst of it.  For those of you who are familiar with bulldogs, already know that they gulp alot of air when they breathe, eat or drink.  That means that later that night all of that air has to come out of the other direction.

So basically the nightime snoring ritual is only broken up by the white background noise sound of frequent quiet Phsssssssssssts followed shortly by a large PU.  Lol

Snoring can be life threatening.

My brother died suddenly in his sleep at the age of 57 (in 1997)---he lived alone and had been divorced for several years. As it happens our family is still close to his ex wife. Last year we were visiting, and she told me that she finally "knew" why he died---she described exactly the scenario I quoted above from your post (waiting a full minute for him to breathe). She was a nurse, and said she used to play over in her mind while waiting, what she would do--perform CPR or something. She is convinced that his sleep apnea caused it.

This actually relieved me a bit, because all these years we never had a clue as to why he died like that. He was a pilot and in good health.

My husband snores (he swears he doesn't ). He keeps earplugs on the nightstand because I sometimes make clicking and other weird
sounds in my sleep(especially if I have stuffy sinuses which is about 40-50% of the time).  I also tend to talk in my sleep. So far I haven't
said anything too revealing. Our female aussie (dog) also snores and she sleeps in her bed at the foot of our bed. It's kind of neat, we can
tell when she seems to be dreaming by her body movements and the noises she makes.

Didn't someone post awhile back that when her husband snores their little dog gets up on jumps on him to stop the snoring?   LOL    ;D ;D
They have all kinds of 'specialized" dogs.   Why not a snorer stopper?   ;)

That's so funny!!

I've had to share a room with my DH for 5 days this week, as we have been on vacation. He sounds like a pneumatic drill when he snores! I was sooo relieved to be home and in my own room last night. I need a vacation to get over a week of broken sleep.

I kind of dread going on trips with my H because I have to wear earplugs and take benadryl to get to sleep and stay asleep (but not successfully). Sleep deprivation, for sure.
