Title: I want to throw out ALL of the "SMELLY, FRAGRANT, WICKLESS, WAX-BURNING" pots!
Post by: CAT1962 on February 08, 2011, 10:10:34 AM
You MAY know what I am referring to. OMG. We have a teacher that sells them, and just about every classroom has one! My nose constantly itches, hurts, and is horribly dry. I have asthma, too, so they make me cough, wheeze, and dry my throat out terribly. I just want EVERYONE to throw them out the window!!! The teacher I work with LOVES them but is so kind, she has one but doesn't use it. If the room is musty, she will ask if we can turn it on for just a few mins. I really appreciate her kindness. Does anyone else have this issue? I can't even wear perfume, or use air fresheners, etc...

Hi Cat,

I have the very same problem.  I work in a high school, where boys use that horrible body spray.  They just stand at their lockers in the hallway and spray away! (rather than showering ... ???), and it chokes the life out of me for hours.

Fortunately our school board has a "no scent" policy so this occurs very seldom.

I'm with you Cat. Why on earth people choose to wear/use such things is beyond me. We have a voluntary code at work, and no-one in my area wears perfumed products. Before we had the code, I used to have lots of coughing and spluttering and general feelings of being unwell. I'm thankful I don't work with adolescent boys!

Yep, know what you mean. Sometimes it's really overkill; now you can walk in a store and they have them there. Almost as bad as those old-days perfume counters where a salesperson sprits you as you walk by.  I can just imagine someone with asthma!

Carebear,
Glad I'm not in school with those boys, either.  ;)
We had a "no smelly stuff" policy at my workplace; so many people lined up in cubicles can make for some unpleasant smells anyway sometimes.  ;D :D Still, of course, we had people occasionally who smelled like they bathed in cologne, and it normally was the college-age guys. Hmmm....does that mean they sprayed instead of showered that morning? Yuck, never thought about that before.

I ask my grandfather as kindly and gently as possible not to marinate in his Old Spice ;)

Hi Cat,

I work in a large office building and there are days that I have to turn around and walk another way as a certain scent will strike my nose a certain way (and my sniffer hasn't worked right in a few years now).  Oh gosh, and don't get those spray deodorants around me and I'm gone period, end of sentence.  The headaches and sometimes migraines these scents trigger can be awful (thank goodness for Lyrica (the severity is not as bad as before)).

Take care of yourself -

I truly think that most public places should be scent free. There are so many people who are sensitive or who have really bad asthmatic reactions to all that stuff. Those scents will tighten my chest up right now. Really can make a person physically ill.

This thread brought back memories of my youngest son who had 2 other best friends. They all wore their hair the same way and dressed a lot alike and wore Eternity colonge.

They would all meet at our house to drive out of town to a movie(so they said)!!!

One night the one older boy was here when the trio jumped in the car and headed out.The older boy said "I don't know if they will live long enough to get to (next town) cause they smell like a ------ whorehouse. Boy, was he right. I would have to open every window in the house and turn on 2 fans to clear out the stink from that Eternity. I pity you teachers with all the smells the kids wear. Irish ;D

Can I add flowers to the list? I have a colleague who was feeling depressed, so he bought himself some daffodils yesterday to remind himself that it's almost spring. Several of us have found their smell irritating. I have asthma and hay fever, and have been coughing more than usual the last couple of days. Ireally don't think flowers beong in an office.

Well, today we have much milder temps here in Oklahoma. I have noticed that my nose isn't NEARLY as irritated in the school I work in today! NO HEATERS running! Not as dry..WHEW! A day of relief. Now if only my jonts followed suit..... :-\
