Title: eBay mania . . .
Post by: Bucky on January 29, 2011, 11:43:58 AM
Are there any eBay buyers or sellers in our membership?

I just love going to that site and seeing what people are selling.  I am a fanatic garage sale person, so eBay is like a HUGE garage sale to me.   :D  The nice thing is, I can browse and bid from the comforts of my own home and don't have to tramps all over the place looking at things.

My current "thing" is Lia Sophia jewelry.  I've never gone to a Lia Sophia party, but I do know their jewelry is expensive.  However . . . I buy mine on eBay and have got some really nice pieces for a fraction of their selling price.

Another thing I like about eBay is the thrill of winning the bid.   ;D  I sit at my computer with watch in hand and time it down to the last few seconds before I place my bid in hopes of winning.  Of course, I've also lost items too doing it this way.  Rule of thumb is make sure and place the bid you are willing to pay because you might get outbid before you could make another bid.

Just this week I got outbid by 7 cents!!   :o   ::)  Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

We've been fortunate that we have had honest sellers and everyone has been prompt in shipping the items we've bought.

I remember as a young child how my parents took us to live auctions . . that was fun.  I haven't been to an auction in 40 some years.  One can really get caught up in the bidding frenzy.   ;)  My eBay fix is the next best thing.   ;D

Too bad Sjogren's World doesn't get a percentage of the monies spent there like they do at Amazon.com.

Hi Bucky  :)

I'm an Ebay fan. I've not had much luck with selling but I've bought quite a lot over the last few years. Great place to get DVDs on.

Take care - scottie  :)

I'm a buyer on EBay, not a seller. I also love going to garage sales in the summer.
I've also bought a couple pieces of Lia Sophia jewelery on EBay. My cousin had a party for Lia Sophia but geesh whiz!   :o I am not in the tax bracket that I can afford  the prices!

My only gripe with EBay is that some sellers tack on outrageous shipping costs. Adding the shipping to the price of the item and it is not worth it sometimes.  I also think it is like a big garage sale only with higher prices.  I've bought DVDs, cat toys, genealogy items, jewelery, and even found for $5 a beautiful evening type dress that I just needed to rehem that looks great on me. I needed something for the office Christmas party & definitely can't afford $100+  for a dress I won't wear often.

BTW: I used to go to auctions with my folks as a teenager - got over my shyness quick. LOL  There just wasn't used furniture stores in town then so that is where our furniture came from.  I remember auctioneers saying "you;re out in the rear, lady"   or "if you bid like you cook lady your poor husband is going to starve".  ROFL ;D

I have been an eBayer since 1996. I had a LONG time acct, got some bad buyers that refused to follow through, then were allowed to leave retaliatory feedback so I deleted the acct. I started another acct and it isn't as busy. My feedback is in the low 90s due to 2-3 bad buyers. I can't even remember what the deal was, just that the people lied, and I hate ebay now.  :'( It isn't fair for the sellers anymore...

I really like E-bay too as a buyer....I've received a lot of good deals over the years!

Yes, I buy on eBay, but don't sell. I have four or five vendors that I work with exclusively, that sell items for the Japanese tea ceremony (a niche item). I have gotten some very good deals from them. When I first started, I just lurked for a long time to get a sense for how people were bidding. It has saved me some heartache.

Shipping is expensive, but that's true everywhere now. And since I'm having breakable things shipped from Japan, it is worth it to me.

With all the snow here in the Midwest and a good portion of the U.S. - today, while the "weather outside is frightful" . . . "nothing could be more delightful" . . . than browsing thousands and thousands of items from the comfort of my dining room on eBay.   ;D  I'm just window-shopping . . . one can always just "look".   ;)

That is what I do best Window Shopping.  8)
If I got say $20 - I can get this and this and this and this and it all adds up to a lot more than $20.
But then I don't buy anything. But I Could!

PS: I don't know why but clothes always look better on the store dummies than me.  ;D :D

Snow heavy now in Iowa but it is light and fluffy.  :(
