i am about to turn 21 and I want to get drunk but I dont know if I can. I'm scarred I may flare and wont be able to get out of it. This thing sucks so much because I have to think about everything before I do it.
Meds and Booze do not mix well.
Ahhh, the young. You said, "I have to think about everything before I do it."
That is awfully good advice that you have given yourself.
Happy Birthday!
I'm sure having a party when everyone else is drinking doesn't sound too fun. If you chose not to drink I hope your friends show some solidarity and join you in abstaining.
I've given up drinking alcohol. I worry about stressing my liver since I'm on medication. Even one drink leaves me feeling awful. I feel bad enough when I'm stone cold sober LOL
Have you ever drunk alcohol before? Alcohol will not cause a flare but does not mix well with a lot of medications. I would make sure to have a designated driver and limit yourself to two drinks....just enough to feel relaxed, but not enough to be drunk. Most healthy people feel like s--- if they drink enough alcohol to get falling down drunk. So limit your drinks to two or three max over a long evening. You want to have a blast on your 21st. birthday, but drinking too much will make you feel bad. It's much more fun just to have a few drinks then to get really really drunk. I know that when you are 21 there is peer pressure to drink like a fish, but you don't need to be stupid and do that because you will pay the price for it by getting sick. Have a great time on your birthday and take a cab!!! Lesley
Happy early BDday...
I bartended for 8 years....my advice, get the hangover pill (can be bought in the conveniece stores) and drink 1 glass of water for every 2 glasses of alcohol!!!!!! Dehydration is what causes the hangover!! Designated driver please!!
Hope ya have fun! No Jager or tequilla!

Being drunk is no fun, personally and speaking from experience just have a few drinks, enough for you to enjoy yourself, but not enough for you to make a fool of yourself.
I hope you enjoy your 21st.
Listen to the old ones...alcohol and meds don't mix. Too many young people come into ER with alcohol poisoning, just don't know when to stop. Read your drug paperwork
I don't understand WHY you want to get drunk. It is like saying I want to get so sick that I'll have to stop someplace on the way home and throw up in the parking lot!
It doesn't have to be a "rite of passage". I'd explore your reasons for wanting to get drunk.
If it is to be socialable - have 1 drink and sip on it all night.
If it is for enjoyment - pick a new safe hobbie.
If it is to celebrate - think of something else.
If you think everyone else is doing it - you need to look around or pick out new friends.
You are you OWN person. Stand up for yourself and make your own decisions. You have to deal with any consequences of your decisions not the "others' encouraging you in behavior you don't want to do.
People respect you a heck of a lot more when you can be your own person and stand up for yourself.
Ahhhhhhhhh....to be young again..ONLY so I can tell myself NOT to get drunk! In one ear and out the other, I suppose, but why do you want to get drunk? Like someone posted..meds and booze/beer do NOT mix! Danger zone. Have one or two (reasonable drinks, and a designated driver..I hear the beds in jail aren't too comfy for folks like us), enjoy yourself. Happy Birthday. (You'll thank me in the morning! ;) )
Happy birthday, ttdub!
You're an adult, so it's ultimately your decision. There's a lot of valuable food for thought on this thread; I hope it helps you make your choice.
Whatever you decide, I hope that you have an amazing celebration!

Hi ttdub, I'm not going to lecture you on the negative effects of alcohol because I know at your age, you want to experience it however I just want to advise you to please be careful. I feel for you because you are so young and you are having to face the challenges of this disease when most people your age are very carefree (within limits, I hope most people your age still practice caution when drinking - not driving while drinking, and other safety measures, etc.)
But for us we have to be more dilligent because we can do serious harm to our bodies. I have never been a drinker at all, only one time in my life have I drank to the point that I was what kids call 'wasted' (I have drinken socially - one glass of wine here and there) and I'm 35 however I'm currently being tested because I may have liver issues. I have an abdominal MRI on Monday to see if there is anything going on because I have some abnormal liver tests - looks like autoimmune. This is not meant to scare you but just make you understand - although sometimes rare -what the possibilities are with this disease. The meds and alcohol cause serious issues, the disease itself can cause serious issues and alcohol can worsen things. One or two may or may not harm you but I would probably reconsider trying to get drunk. Just my humble advise from another caring Sjoggie.
