Hey there,
I am giving up smoking as from Sunday 21st Jan. Have spoken to the quit clinic and got advice and have the patches so now am just waiting for my BIG DAY. I have been smoking since I was 14 years old (am now 43) at least 20 a day.
The reason for this post is to ask permission from moderators, hosts and site users to start a sort of 'diary of quitting' thread. This may be heck or heaven, I do not know yet, but would love to have the opportunity of getting support and advice. I may make daily posts, if bad or particularly good days, or just weekly posts, I am unsure as to how I will cope.
All are welcome to post their experiences of quitting or trying to quit.
If anyone objects I will not take it personally as this site is really for sjs and associated problems, so please if you would rather I did not run the diary please post on this page and I will check it between now and Sunday.
Many thanks
Mim
You go girl!
This is a wonderful idea...it's all about health issues and how to deal/manage. Who knows, this thread might encourage others... to quit! (I'm not naming names) ::)
Wonderful plan! You've got my support Mim.
Rachael
Mim,
GO FOR IT GAL, YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!! I'm behind you 100%. It has to be a great healthy decision to stop. You can only benefit from it. :D
Hugs and God Bless,
Pooh
Go for it Mim! :) YOU CAN DO IT!!!!
I smoked for 25 years and quit 'cold turkey' and its the hardest thing i've ever done in my life. The point being - I did it - and if I can - you can.
I told my family to stay well clear, went on strike as far as the household was concerned and sat and shook on a couch for about a week. (No patches you see)(It was half term - I didn't need to drive or work)
I was worried about snacking and weight gain so I prepared a bowl of cut up celery and carrot sticks which I kept in iced water in the fridge so when I felt the need - I nibbled on them.
I'd always found that previous attempts to quit had foundered as soon as i found myself in a social situation with a glass in my hand. I bought in a case of beer and drank a couple of cans now and then during my final quit attempt, so that I felt confident that I could drink without smoking.
(Giving up the drink is something I'm still working on! ;D)
A colleague at work quit very successfully with the help of a smoking cessation clinic and nicotine patches.
GOOD LUCK GOOD LUCK GOOD LUCK>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>we're all behind you! (It'll make life so much easier next July as well. Youll be able to be all smug about all the people trouping out of the pub to smoke in the rain!)
Take care - Scottie :)
Hey Mim..Screaming out the roof....YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think this is great! Be sure as Scottie says to get some low cal munchies. Dry popcorn is a good one if you can swallow. Be prepared for the grouchies. My son told me that when he quit, his wife moved into the opposite side of the house :D
I just think it's great and will be supporting and urging every step of the way.
I heard today on the news that cancer deaths are down and they are associating it with less smoking and something..brain died...anyway, I heard smoking and was so glad son quit.
Good luck!
Billye
Mim, Good idea!!! With the Sjogrens it can raise havoc with the dryness issues and probably encourages infections. I had smoked for many years. I quit once cold turkey for 6 months and did not have even a desire to smoke. I was not smoking much daily at that time.
Years later I was much, much older and smoking more(pack daily) and the doctors were after me to quit smoking. I kept telling them to quit bugging me. I knew from experience that when I made up my mind that would be it. On October 7, 2002 I had such a bad day allergy wise when they were harvesting the soybeans that I thought I would choke to death and felt so miserable. Made up my mind to get up the next day and never smoke again. That is what I did. I did not crave a cigarette for several years and now I may enjoy the smell of the smoke occasionally but generally it makes me sick.
I have no clue why I have not craved them as I loved to smoke, enjoyed smoking, never thought I would quit etc. But here I am over 4 years later and not smoking and not much craving. If anyone knows the answer to the absence of craving I would be interested to know. I did not replace smoking with any other habit. I have always had a healthy appetite. One thing that may have been in my favor was that I never smoked at work and generally smoked at home or in the car. Go figure. Best thing I ever did!!! Irish ;D
Good luck to you and all who desire to quit. I always think that one thing that helps is to skip the "next cigarette" and that can go on forever!
I quit years ago and was very succesful with the patches. One thing to tell yourself that will help: You CANNOT smoke even one cigaret on the patch because you can have a seizure......... so that will keep you honest. I always tell people I have never smoked another cigaret in my real life, but I have smoked cartons of them in my dreams. I still dream about smoking!! I do a quit group with the kids at school. I love to tell them that I have saved, to date, $14,500 by quitting as that is the amount I have NOT spent on cigarets. Keep track of the money you save and keep it for yourself to buy something you can keep and admire that is healthy (like diamonds!!) Good luck and congratulations on the best decision you have ever made.
:o
oooooooooooooooooooooooo Wow! Steffie!
I never thought about it like that...(scrathing my head).
See there, someone can explain it in their way..and a light comes on in my head!
that's a ton of moola.
thanks Steffie!
Mim,
How can anyone object to helping people stop using one of the deadliest and addictive drugs like tobacco? I have never been a smoker, but I can sympathies with people who are addicted to a substance that can compromise your health in so many ways.
My 85 year old father has not smoked for 35 years (stopped cold turkey at 50), but still has the occasional urge for a smoke.
I am not going to wish you good luck, because luck has nothing to do with it, willpower does! Sjogren's gives you enough health problems, you don't need to add to them with cigarettes. You can't control what SS is going to do, but you can take control of your smoking.
Stay strong, whip the habit!
Epson
Good for you Mim, if support and good wishes will help, you have baskets full of both.
I was a "social smoker" in the 60's and 70's but never really got into it. I even stopped when I planned to get pregnant, and didn't start again until after I returned to work after the birth of my youngest, and never smoked at home after that. As a result, when I decided to stop, I was able to, just by thinking of myself as a non-smoker. Haven't really ever had cravings (stopped in 80) except once, after about 2 years, I reached across the table in a restaurant to hubby's pack, took one out without thinking, then sat there and looked at it like "what the heck is that in my hand for?" I didn't light it, but it was so weird to go through the motions of getting it out, without even wanting it.
I think you can do anything, and with an attitude like you have, you will soon be a non-smoker too.
As for objections because the site is for SJS...think of it this way; addiction to smoking is probably an aggravating factor in SJS, so you aren't off topic at all, just sharing another coping strategy for SJS.
Congratualtions on your decision to quit Mim. We are all right here with you.
Hugs,
quiger
Mim,
I'm surprised you were even able to smoke!
I got terrible eye inflammation from smoking. Woke up every morning with this goo-ye green stuff on my eyelids...
This is what made me kick the habit alltogether. Smoking and Sjogren's are not a good partner...
My best and GOOD LUCK,
Maria
My last cig was November 13, 1989 and I tell others I may not be here today if I still smoked. It is hard, but determination wins every time. I know I must never go near another cigarette.
Linda's "social smoking" is very rare. I've known a very few people who could have a cig once in awhile and was always jealous of them. For me, it's all the way.
We all have our fingers crossed that you'll be successful and a healthier person in the end.
Lucy
For those of us with an "addictive" personality it should be written in stone that when you quit that is it. The first time I quit I started smoking some after 5 months or so and then there was a death in the immediate family and everyone was sitting around the table and talking. So I had one or two and that kept on and then increased and increased and increased. When a person quits that "one" cigarette is the one that starts you smoking again.
Just a little side note that Linda reminded me of with her cigarette in the hand story. My hubby had a friend that had quit smoking and he substituted lighting books matches, shaking them out and putting the unlit little paper match in his mouth. He went through about 4-5 books of matches a day---but he wasn't smoking!!! Interesting what a habit smoking is besides being addictive. ;DIrish
Have any of you heard this saying, "Use it or loose it"?
Well...I'm struggling with the smelly white smoke too and that phrase popped into my head... "use it & you will loose it"...
makes sense to me in that respect. Wish I never started :'(
O.K. now Mim,
It's been over 24 hours since you posted (I think) Have you started this quest for a happier life? Let us hear from you.
Billye
Hey, Mim, I thought you were quitting last week when we were in the chat room? Anyway, my first week of "heck" is about over. It's not easy, but I am doing it. I have done quite a bit of sleeping this week. Guess that's one way to not smoke. So far so good. Cold Turkey. I have a friend who is now hooked on the nicotine gum and I didn't want that to happen to me.
Good luck. My husband already said he likes the fact that I don't have "cigarette breath". One day at a time. An addiction is an addiction.
Take care,
Sandi
Sandy,
One of the things I noticed 20 odd years ago when I quit smoking was how badly the people who smoked smelled. Your hair, clothes, breath and even your skin smell like stale cigarette smoke when you are smoking. My husband didn't smoke and when I quit (cold turkey too), he said " You don't stink any more." That made me feel soo bad because I hadn't realized that I stank. I've also seen cases where people who smoke actually sweat the stuff out of their pores and sheets turn yellow. Nasty stuff. It's so good for you to get rid of this habit. I commend you both for this. Keep it up.
Billye
Hi there ladies,
Sandi, no when I said last week about quitting I said I had to go to the clinic first, which was last Tuesday and they recommended I set a date and then did it from there, at the clinic we agreed the date would be tomorrow (Sunday 21st).
So I am on my last day of being a smoker today, I am preparing myself for my big day tomorrow.
Very nervous, hubby has been really supportive, he has an appointment of the 29th, and my son has been harassing me for the last 5 days to give up immediately and not wait until Sunday, but I know me and I have to plan it and get my mind right.
I am in awe of you sandi, I know if I had just done it I would have failed, so well done on just quitting and getting through your 1st week in one piece, be very proud.
Will post tomorrow evening (if i can type) and let you all know how the first day went. I think it will be easier from Monday on as I am at work everyday and not only can't I smoke anywhere on site they have said the weather is going to turn really cold and that will be an added reason not to go out in the street for a cigarette.
Many thanks for your support, anyone else out there that wants to try to quit and join me and start to post their progress feel free (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE hint hint).
Love and thanks for your support, keep me in your prayers for I am going to need all the help, divine and mortal, I can get.
Mim :-\ :-\
Mim,
I'm also a former smoker 30+ years (off and on) - I quit on 2 January 2005; it was the hardest thing I've ever done!!! I went cold turkey on a promise I made my daughter, couldn't break a promise to her.
It was a long road, but I did it (still have a craving now and then) and did it well!!!!! Remember, one minute, one hour, one day at a time. YOU CAN DO IT!
Patze
Congratulations on planning to quit smoking. It's been two years for me now. I didnt think I would ever be able to quit. I didnt smoke since I was a teenager. I smoked about 13 years and I am 53, but as far as I was concerned it might as well been 50 years.
I enjoyed smoking. It felt like it was one thing that belonged to me. I am not encouraging it , I am just trying to tell my story and how I really felt. IT did cost a lot,but I would willingly let something else go to get my cigarettes. Everyone knows the best cigarette is after you finish eating . Well and when you first get up in the morning, and when I first was on my way home from my job. And well, on on on on it goes.
I am almost having a craving thinking back ;D ,but I am ok. I rarely have the cravings now. I have dreamed about it. I ususally dream I am about to smoke one and start my excuses . When I wake up I am so glad it was a dream.
I had tried the gum and patches before. They both worked in their own way, I just know now I wasnt really ready to quit. I was in a bad marriage so anytime I got nervous which was often I smoked. Also my ex husband always nagged me about it. Made me get out of the car to have one in the winter. I think because he hated it I wanted to smoke all the more. I know its silly.
My wonderful husband now had smoked in the past ,but had quit when I met him and he hadnt smoked in a year. Well , eventually he wanted to smoke again. I wouldnt tell him what to do ,because I smoked when we met. I did feel guilty thinking my smoking made it too tempting for him.
About 4 years ago he almost died. Complications from his diabetes and sleep apnea. He did not smoke again. I still smoked especially after riding in the front of the ambulance.
Well after I started having more sickness and not really knowing yet what was going on my doctor started at me about smoking. One day I told my husband after we left his office. He doesnt think I can quit.
I also didnt like something having power over me like cigarettes did. My husband felt the same way. I think that factor is what got to us the most. We are both christians, and didnt want something to have power over us. We only wanted God'spower over us.
One day I told God I could not quit on my own. I was serious. That is how I felt. I ask him in prayer if he would help me. Well at the next doctors visit he started at me again, and I said I am going to quit on Sunday. He laughed and said , Sunday! Why not now.I said, well it is going to be my way,and it will be on Sunday.
That is all history now. I quit on Sunday and havnt smoked again. I quit cold turkey only because I was afraid to have anything else in my system. I wanted it out as soon as possible. I felt like I would do better that way.
Next, doctors appointment he said so when are you going to quit. I said I have already quit. I havent smoked since that Sunday I told you about. He said really? Gave me all the nice comments then ,but still didnt think I would make it. For about 6 months he would ask me. He now doesn t ask me any more. ;D
Even with the sjogren's I know it has helped my body. You can feel the benefits right away.
I know there are always exceptions ,but I think smoking is like drinking . Dont ever take the one cigarette after you have quit.
I was a coffee drinker when I smoked, but while quitting I still wanted my coffee. Actually, even more and I bought me some special flavor coffees to sip on and looked forward to them .I did chew some regular gum. My dad use to tell me that would help and I would think yeah right, but it did help. It was like at times I just needed to work my mouth. ;D Ok , I can see jokes coming now,but it was true. So it was coffee and juicy fruit . lol...
I will end by saying no person can usually cause another person to quit. It takes something inside a person that means something. I quit with God's help.
Good Luck everyone who attempts to quit. If you dont make it one time, remember their will b e another time, and one of these days you will quit.
susanep :) :)
GO FOR IT MIM! YOU CAN DO IT!
Hugs and God Bless,
Pooh
I'm pulling for you Mim!!!
A smoker myself, I admire anyone with the tenacity to give up this nasty habit. I quit once for 4 years and when our youngest went away to college, I started up again. I know, I know quite stupid of me huh?
I am giving my habit much consideration and hopefully will have what it takes to quit once and for all.
{{{{hugs}}}}
Vicki
Well Hello.
Have survived today. Got up this morning and reached for a patch rather than a cigarette, good start. Day did not go too bad, got a bit twitchy around mid morning, and after lunch really wanted to go and get some cigarettes - but I expected that - and managed to take my mind off it by practising a mind re-enforcement technique I read about (seemed to work really well).
Have had dinner and again really missed a post meal cigarette, but got through. It has not been a nightmare but it has made me realise how much I connect smoking with other things. When hubby came in from work i automatically put the kettle on and thought I will just sit down and have a cigarette whilst we talk, my sister in law rang and I thought I will just get my cigarettes and settle down for a chat etc. Now will have to find alternatives.
Hubby has said he will not smoke in the house but I have told him it is okay as I have to get used to it being around me.
Have snacked today, think it may be worrying about putting on weight ( have just taken about 18 months to lose 2 stone ) but will get lots of veggie snacks for the fridge.
My son has been really happy today not having to wade through a smog at one end of the house, that made me feel better about the whole thing, it is working for him already.
The main problems I have found are my skin is so dry the patch started to peel within about 2 hours so I had to go to the supermarket and get some micropore tape to stick over the patch to keep it on, and I paid for it at the cigarette counter as the tills were so busy and did not buy cigarettes - I AM PROUD OF MYSELF!! and I have had a headache most of the afternoon/evening which I think may be withdrawal, hopefully this will go in it's own time.
It is strange how one minute you are fine and then all of a sudden there is this overwhelming urge to have a cigarette, it comes from nowhere and hits you like a hammer, then if you can hold out it passes just as quickly. At the smoking quit clinic the nurse said no craving will last for longer than a minute, I though great just a minute, well boy believe me a minute is a lifetime when you are quitting smoking after 29 years.
Well enough of my waffling, am going to bed now hopefully tomorrow will be as good as today but only time will tell.
Thanks for listening and all your support and experiences.
Love n hugs
Mim :-\ :-\

quiger
mim, Good for you!!! That is the way to treat it----one day at a time. You had so many tempting ciggy opportunities during the day and you consciously chose not to smoke. Give the girl a gold star!!!! Irish ;D
Day Two
Worse than yesterday, but got through, real sore marks from patch yesterday, but persevering.
Thanks for the support
Mim :-\
Still stink purty
mim, Good for you!!! You made it through another day. Have you tried using a worry stone or something to do with your hands. Also, some people chew on parrafin or wax that used when makeing jellies or candy. I am wondering if that would chew harder and give your jaw a good work out. We smokers/ex-smokers are such oral creatures. Need something in your hand and in your mouth for gratification.
I am been chewing ice for about a year. I started big time when my iron was so low. I guess that is a symptom of iron deficiency. I have since continues to chew ice mainly as it is oral plus it helps me keep my mouth moist without drinking tons of water and getting waterlogged. Having an ice crusher would really help as it would be more gentle on the teeth. I have dentures so I don't worry about my teeth.
Keep it up---your are doing great!!! One day at a time! Irish ;D
OH MIM....
I'm ROFLO but not at you Sweetie, only at your trailer signature. ;) I'm so glad that you are still hanging in there. Stink Purty Mim!!!! :-*Kisses and Hugs, Mim still Stinks Purty!!!! Hang in there Luv,

Well... I just don't know what to say....other than... stay on the path!
Don't look back & if you think you may fall... YELL for someone First!
(I chew plastic straws)
the screen looks much whiter today.. :)
Rachael
Rach,
That's because there is less tobacco stain ;D . Seriously, my Mom smoked for many, many years. When I had to move her into the nursing home, I was so dismayed that I had to trash so much of her belongings because the tobacco stain had ruined them.
It also makes LOTS OF WRINKLES. :-\
Billye
Mim,
I am so proud of you. I know how tough this is. Today has been my worst day. So, I guess it doesn't get easier. I stink purty!!!!!! I love it. We CAN do this!!!!!
Keep going,
Sandi
Great Sandi!!! I'm so glad you'll all Stink Purty. My Grand Dad would have been so proud of both of you. Keep it up, it gets easier. :D
Billye
ONE DAY AT A TIME MIM - ONE DAY AT A TIME!
YOU CAN DO IT!!!!
X X X XX X X X X X
Gosh Billye,
That's a serious smoker! I never smoke in my house or car & don't allow it.
My mother-in-law was a serious smoker, she was forced to quit & put on oxygen!
I could never stand to go there because her house stunk & made my eyes burn. Everything in her house was "off-white", as she called it. I called it "butt-yellow".
I'm the only smoker on my family side.
If Mim & Sandi keep this up.... they might just have groupies lined up ;)
I'm still considering the possibility for my self. I know my doctors would appreciate too.
You two are a breath of fresh air...literally LOL
Keep it up both, you're doing such a great job.
Remember "I can do anything for ONE DAY.....and tomorrow I can do it again!"
Gosh Rach! Join the club. Come on! Be a Stink Purty Girl. You can do it. Look at all the money you'd save. Lots of new clothes for that amount. I'd be in shopping heaven. And just think how much better you will feel when it's all over.
One day at a time!
Billye
Billye,
you realize this is a huge commitment? I don't take failure within my self very well. And I suppose smoking by the very nature is a failure... (oh hush!)
not you. I was talking to myself.
I'm still thinking ::)
I guess I could buy more art supplies. :)
That's the way to think Rach!! Join the group!
Billye
Mim,
I am so proud of you. I know Harry is proud of his Mum too. I pray it will get easier each day, until you will get one morning and no longer even think of them.
GO MIM, GO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hugs, Pooh
Well girls, day three and it is getting easier.
Only had a couple of times today that I thought about reaching for a cigarette, bit stressful at work and could have easily taken one but then said no I don't smoke and it passed real easy. New day tomorrow and hope fully it too will get better.
Had my niece and hubby both smoking here tonight and managed not to crack so maybe I will make it.
Well done Sandi still going I am real proud of you.
Thanks for the support
Love Mim
I stink purty - I stink purty

Update you again soon
Love
Mim :-\ :-\
I stink purty - I stink purty
Congratulations! I know exactly what you are going throu. I quit smoking in June and to tell you the truth I have never looked back.
One of the things that kept me motivated was everytime I would walk by smokers I would think how bad they smelt and that I was lucky not to smell like that any more.
My kids congratulated me every day for the first 3 months and if they forgot I would fool around by saying... "I guess nobody thinks I am strong for staying away from those cigarettes" every day they forgot to say contratulations. That would cook up a storm and the kids would make a big deal out of me not smoking that day.
Try to find any positive thought and hold on to it. Read about the benifits staying smoke free for a week, a month and so on. And last but not least tell yourself how strong you are EVERY DAY! Because thats what you are. Soon you will find that you haven't thought about a cigarette for days, then weeks. You kinda find your new normal.
May you have lots of great smoke free days ahead!
Stay strong :)
See Mim, Four Days and you have done it!!!! When my Dad was in the hospital with colon cancer, he was so sick that he didn't want cigarettes (couldn't smoke in his room and didn't feel like walking down to the lobby). After about 3-4 days he started coughing. He coughed and coughed and actually coughed up stuff (sorry). He did this for days. The doctor told us that he was clearing the mucus and stuff from his lungs because of smoking. My Mom had the same things happen when we decided she'd smoked long enough and put her on the patch to help her quit.
I tried to find something that would explain it better and this is all I could find in short time. I am not sure if the schedule is the same for everyone. But it would explain all of the coughing. Maybe you don't have a cold and your body is only clearing out the toxins. http://lungdiseases.about.com/od/copd/a/smoking_facts.htm
You've made it this far. Keeep it upppp!!!!!! Mim's on her way to Stinking Real Purtttty!!! :D ;D :D ;D
Billye
Hey Mim,
Way to GO!!!! I'm so proud of you for getting this far - believe me, every day that passes, it will get a bit easier!
GO MIM GO - GO MIM GO - GO MIM GO!!!!!
Patze
Good job Mim. One day at a time.
Take care,
quiger
mim, That is so great! I know what you mean about being able to breath better. I have also heard that some people start to cough more when they quit smoking. Smoking paralyses the little "cilia" or very find hairs that propel the mucus up and out of the respiratory track. When a person quits smoking the cilia wake up and are dancing down there getting rid of the bad stuff.
Buy yourself a little treat on the 7th day. THink of all the money you have saved not buying cigarettes. You are soing good and I am so proud of you. Hang in there. IRish ;D
Way to go girls, everyday that passes is another "purty smellin" day in your new lives as non-smokers.
Just remember: IF YOU CAN CONCEIVE IT AND BELIEVE IT, YOU CAN ACHIEVE IT.

Just remember: IF YOU CAN CONCEIVE IT AND BELIEVE IT, YOU CAN ACHIEVE IT.
I gotta quote Linda...(that's real good)
Hang in there Mim.... just thinking & sending good thoughts!
Rach
O.K. Sandi,
How ya doin?? Report in girl.
Billye
We're behind you Mim. GO FOR IT!
It may get tougher for a few days, but then it will start to get easier. Hang in there gal, you can do it!
Hugs and God Bless,

irish, I had the same ice eating addiction when I was anemic several years ago. It's called PICA and the ice craving is common with adults with anemia. How long has this been going on for you? If you are severly anemic you may develop all kinds of other symptoms including restless leg syndrome. You must be feeling pretty rotten. Is there a plan to raise your hemoglobin? Vitamins can take several months to work and transfusions are the best short term remedy. Took a while but I'm done with anemia at least for now. VAL
val, I do have restless leg syndrome although it isn't as bad as it was. I have been on the iron and vitamin C and am supposed to take iron one time a day for the rest of my life. I skipped it for several months as I had such a upset stomach etc and now I have started it up again.
I have so many autoimmune issues plus chronic infections and both of these can lower the hemoglobin and the ferritin level. At one time I was eating 10 trays of ice cubes a day. I am not chewing that many now. In fact hardly had any at all today. I can usually tell how bad my anemia is by looking at the inside of my lower eyelid. When hemg was 9.8 and ferritin was 6 I had a very pale face and not much red in my inner lid.
I have always enjoyed chewing ice and since I quit smoking I think it is really a great oral gratification. I am so happy that I have dentures so that I can chew the ice. I try to let it melt some so it is not so apt to wreck my dentures. I love the ice crystals with the cold pepsi. Really satisfies my thirst. Another thing that is good for satisfying the thirst is the flavored carbonated water without any sugar or "fake" sugar. Irish ;D
Irish, Wow, you might have been taking too much iron if your stomache was upset. Check over your vitamin tablets carefully if you are taking a multi/with iron you need to add that total to the other iron supplements. ALSO check any other vitamin tablets or capsules read the labels really carefully. Sometime B-12 tablets will also contain IRON! Many breakfast cereals contain IRON! All of a sudden you can get overloaded without even knowing it. It takes months for your liver to reabsorb and store iron. FE - iron is essential for your body to make red blood cells. Fatigue, shortness of breath and sometimes restless legs can be symptoms. Too much may upset your stomache and could cause constipation. I HATE THAT and used a stool softener like Ducolax until the levels were high enough.
I had much trouble with anemia in the past and even had to give up being a vegetarian and started eating more meat and eggs a few times a week. I hope you can get this cleared up. Being anemic is not fun, it can make you tired and crave ice. The cold ice really hurts my teeth and I ended up eating Hall's menthol cough drops several at time. Now that was really wierd cause those Hall's were not my favorite at all. VAL
Hey Ho,
6 days down now and not had a cigarette.
Yesterday and today were quite bad, did not get up for chat in the middle of the night could not face sitting here for 2 hours without a smoke, so stayed in bed.
Friday is always a busy stressful day at work and I got through it without a cigarette so quite pleased with myself.
Still got the mental attitude not quite understanding that this is for life. Will persevere, have saved £35.00 already this week by not buying cigarettes so some good is coming from it.
Has anyone heard from Sandi - let us know how you are doing girl!!!
Well will give you peace now
Love hugs and immeasureable thanks
Mim
Stinking even purtyer - Stinking even purtyer
Way to go Mim!!!! ;D
Thankgoodness!
I believe you'll be a success!
Glad to her from you...
Rach
Great Great Mim ,
Your doing it!!! Remember when thinking of going one day without a cigarette was frightful?
All you have to think about is today, and today, and another today.
Horray ! Horray! That nicotine is not happy that you are getting rid of it out of your system. It is trying to say oh come on just one, it wont hurt. You are putting that thought in its place.
Horray!!!!!!
susanep :)
It's great to hear from you Mim, I was beginning to worry. I was afraid Mim wasn't Stinking Purty any more ;) :D
I know it's hard, but when you think you want to pick up that cigarette again, re-read this thread again. We love ya and want you to be healthier and stopping those stinking things will help your lungs in the long run. Yes, it's a lifestyle change, think..healthier skin, healthier lungs, healthier life. Keep it up!!
Billye
mim, Keep it up---you are doing great. You might have to find something to do to take your mind off of "it" over the weekend. Maybe a long walk as you will be starting to breath better or even better you could GO SHOPPING. Snag a friend and do something fun or you could also stay home with a bowl of popcorn(good oral chewing gratification) and watch some good movies. Take care and keep it up. You are on the road to recovery!!! Irish ;D
Congratulations to everyone who has been successful at not smoking. I am sure that it has not been easy, but the health benefits will be well worth it.
I do have one question for all the smokers, didn't the smoke hurt your eyes and throat? I had to stop going out to restaurants because the smoke was burning my eyes and throat or is that part of your reason for quitting.
Epson
QuoteI do have one question for all the smokers, didn't the smoke hurt your eyes and throat? I had to stop going out to restaurants because the smoke was burning my eyes and throat or is that part of your reason for quitting.
When I quit back in '89, I didn't have any of the problems I have now. If I had, however, the pull of the cig is greater than any ailment and it might not have made a difference.
Lucy
Hey Lucy,
I have always had a problem with smoke hurting my eyes, even pre sjs, which most of my friends found strange seeing as though I smoked quite a lot. Restaurants and bars were a nightmare, i could drink soft drinks all night and come out with eyes of someone who had drunk 10 straight scotches. My throat had never been a problem with the smoking. I sometimes think that sjs symptoms are such slow gradual builders that we do not notice the changes at all until they are at their ebb. Hope this helps.
Oh by the way, starting day 7 it is my sons birthday today so family are popping over this morning, will stay strong.
Love n Hugs
Mim :'( :'(
I stink real purty now
Congratulations MIM, you are doing it!!!!! Wahoo!
I understand what you are talking about with smoke in a bar/restaurant; I always had to sit in the non-smoking area and didn't even go to restaurants much before the smoking/non-smoking split. My eyes would always kill me afterwards and I was a pack to a pack & a half smoker myself, and my throat didn't seem to bother me much at all.
By the way, I love the "I stink real purty now"! That's such a great story!
Keep going and give your son an extra hug from me...
Patze
Mim,
Congradulations to you and your Son. Him for having a birthday and you for making another day! Just tell everyone that you really Stink Purty now and they will all get a kick out of it and support you.
Keep it up Sweetie!!!! You are doing so well. By the way, I think you are getting more hits on this thread than any I've seen in a while. A lot of people are sending you good wishes. They want Mim to Stink Purty Foreverrrrrrr ;) :D :D :D
Have a great day!!
Billye
In honour of Seven smoke free days:

Wow Mim!! I love the little poem. But you are right, you will feel so much better that you'll have a new life. Keep it up Sweetie. :D :D :D
Billye
Mim Stinks Purty Now!!Mim Stinks Purty Now!!Mim Stinks Purty Now!!Mim Stinks Purty Now!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Congrats Mim!! :)
You"re a gal of "Steel Will".
I'm going to confession. :'(
I couldn't do it. The crinkling sound of cellophane beckoned me, saran wrap, not the cigarette pack.
I was working a piece of art, finished it and like always went out for my smoke.
Poof.... there I went, with that swirl of smoke.
Lucky for me, it's cold & windy out today, so I won't be going out much.
"When you fail, try, try again"....
(who coined that?)
Rach,
don't give up. You just have to make up your mind that this would be so much better for your health. We won't criticize. We'll just encourage.
Hugs,
Billye
I do not smoke and never have, but I know how difficult it is to conquer any addiction. My husband smoked for many years and quit about 35 years ago. I was so proud of him, because I knew it wasn't easy. And I am so proud for all of you. My husband would put the money that he normally would have spent on cigs into a jar each day, he saved up quite a little bit. With the prices the way they are today you could really have a loot!! :D
My brother smoked for as long as I can remember and never would even try to quit, he died of lung cancer.
Please all of you don't give up. Yourlungs will thank you and so will all of those who love and care about by you.
Hang in there!!
Sue
SOS!!!!
I need Prayer.

Consider it done Rachael,
One day at a time, and today is ONE DAY
Good luck at the dr appointment.
Prayers coming your way!!! It's the beginning of a new day and life for you. Lots of luck and hugs! We're all rooting for you.
Billye
Hey Rachel well done, real proud of you honey, keep it up, and everyone is right, one day at a time, my prayers and hoorays are with you always.
When I went to see the clinic nurse last week she said no crave, no matter how bad, will last for more than a minute, and she is right, just try to distract yourself for that minute, and another goal achieved.
Day 9 today, still not smoked. Went to clinic appt tonight and she re did my carbon thingy, have gone from 24+ down to below 6, that of a non smoker, I was sooo impressed with myself.
Nurse has had to change my patches for a different type as when I take then off my skin blisters and itches like mad, swells up, and then goes sort of purple pin pricks, she looked at the mark left from when I changed it this morning and insisted I stopped straight away as I am having a reaction to them and eventually my skin will just breakdown (just what I need). (I still have the purple bruising from the first patch I used 9 days ago.
She has re issued prescription for a different type of patch, if that reacts then she said about gum, lozenges or nasal inhalers I DON'T THINK SO!!!!
Any way will try new ones tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
Hubby also went tonight and he is quitting on Wednesday, so wish us well.
Many thanks for your support so far, will keep in touch.
Love N Hugs
Mim
Stinking real purty now - stinking real purty now
(((Thank you ladies)))), so very much. I'm making it so far & the prayers are working!
One day at a time. Thank goodness for a day and a new one tomorrow!
Do I stink purty, maybe a hint, yet? I'm so glad I don't have to go outside now.
Mim, you're right on the "urge to smoke", in that it only lasts a few seconds & is gone. Thank goodness for that eh?
I'm sorry to hear the patch is causing a problem...darn!
Mine did the last time I tried. I'm not turning back if it happens again.
I've used commit lozenges & they work very well for me, but gave me hic-ups. The inhalers, seemed to imitate a cigarette & didn't break that "hand to mouth", that psychological thing, least not for me.
When you change your patch, are you placing it to another area? (not the same site)
I'll be thinking & praying for you & hubby.... my husband is going to be next ;)
Thank you thank you thank you, love to you all.
(((hugs)))
Rachael
Wow I'm so impressed!!!!! :D :D Both Mim and Rachel. ;D And the husbands are next ;) ;)
Now we have two "Stink Purty Girls"!! You don't know it, but you made me cry. My Grand Dad would be so proud if he knew his little compliment had helped like this.
Keep it up you two!! Mim I hope you and your hubby will not have to sleep in opposite sides of the house. ;) Seriously,
you are far enough ahead of him to have your moods level out. Just remember you both will be irritable. But when you get thru with this...the money you saved will buy a new car!!
Sure hope you can get the patch situation under control. It makes it so much easier.
Rachel..think only of the moment right now. You can do it, you can do it, you can do it. Nasty things, nasty things, nasty things. Think of that. You are Stinking Purty Girl.
Billye
Mim - Rachael - your both doing great!!!!!!! Well done! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!!!!
Mim,
Very impressive!! Good for you and good for hubby.
Rachael,
Hang in there. You have the right idea about one day at a time.
We're all here for you both.

.......ALL OF YOU!!!!
Congratulations Guys, keep up the great work
Hey
Sandi - WELL DONE!!!!!!! i am really pleased for you. I to have got my taste buds back but am now realising I don't like all of the things I have cooked and eaten for so many years!!!!
Rach - I am really impressed well done my lovely. This is probably the hardest thing we will do for ooh about 2 days but we can all do it.
I am now on day 11 - tried the new patches and they have made my skin break out basically the same as the old, will have to go back to docs and discuss alternatives.
Am feeling pretty good about myself (I know big head) and am patting myself on the back mentally often. Have had to watch the eating, started to snack a bit, took too long to lose 2 stone to chance it now, so am really concentrating on the food side.
Anyway off to have a chat with my ole mates on chat so take care everyone, Sandi and Rach - you are the bomb, keep it up.

Hi all,
Day 12 and have had a real problem with the patches, by 7 p.m. last night my arm was very swollen and red and just painful, so I had to remove the patch.
Decided to leave one off overnight and put it on in the morning. Well got up this morning and did not feel too bad (expected a major rush of wanting nicotine when I got out of bed but it did not happen) so I though I would put a patch in my handbag to take to work just in case, and try to get through the day without one. I did it, as yet I have not had to put a patch on, that is 27 hours patchless and 12 days cigarette less.
This may be the lull before the storm, it is possible I had enough nicotine in my system from the patches to last me for about 24 hours and tomorrow morning I will get up like a rabid bunny screaming for nicotine and threatening to throttle everyone.
Will have to wait and see.
Hubby has just done his 48 hours off the cigs and on the patches, he is doing really well I am very proud of him.
Going to get some sleep now so i can get up for chat at 1 a.m., may speak to you then.
Love n Hugs and thanks
Mim :-\
Purty and patch free
Well done Min, it's great that your hubby is quiting as well, you'll be great support for one another and between the 2 of you, you'll both come out the other side "smoke free" :) :)
Keep up the great work.
Love Lesley xx
Hi all,
It's my 4th day. It's a little more difficult today.
I have tooth ache under yet another crown, so back on antibiotics.
Hydrenitis (sp) (this is swelling in skin tissue, related to bad skin). I will not even say where it's located.
I curled my hair, then gave my head a little shake...and something Popped in my neck, and now I can barely move my head side to side.
Did I mention this is my 4th day :) I am wearing the patch, but removing it at night. My sweet hubby quit two days ago... (yes he did) ;) and I'm very proud of him.
We both went to the market to shop! for suckers. that's all we bought LOL.
Passed the tobacco counter, arm in arm and I whispered to him, " don't look!...shhh keep walking).
oooooo we're going to do this, oh yes, yes we will.
love you all,
Rach
I am so proud of you my girlie (and hubby). It is a magnificent test of strength to walk past a cigarette counter without actually buying anything so well done.
Sorry to hear about the unmentionable swelling wink wink and the rest of the probs you are having at the moment, hopefully they will clear soon and you will be back to your wonderful self. MAKE SURE WHEN ANTIBIOTICS FINISHED YOU GO TO DENTIST.
Tell hubby I am proud of him also, I seem to spend more time worrying about how my hubby is doing quitting than I do worrying about myself. Maybe a nurturing thing!!
Keep it up and what happened to the emails!!

Mim
4 purty stinkers
Gosh,
We're getting quite a club aren't we? :D Happy club of Purty Stinkers. I am so proud of all of you and Rach..I want to welcome you to the Purty Stinkers Club!! ;D ;D ;D
I sure hope you and your hubby stick to it. You will have each other so much longer without this nasty stuff. Nasty Stuff! Nasty Stuff! Nasty Stuff!
Think how good things will taste and smell. Keep it up all of you.!!!!
Billye
:D Chairman of the Purty Stinkers Club!!!!!! :D :D :D
Billye!
Purty Stinkers Club!! That's cool!... maybe be could get pink leather jackets and our club name on back.... (yeh, right)... not a bad idea? 8) ...we bad, we bad....that's right!
Mim, hows your man doing?
Is he really that mischievous that you worry over him? Tell him if he cheats, you'll know cause you're a founding member of the Purty Stickers Club, & with that comes the keen ability to sniff out all things foul! Yeah.... smoke can't hide from us now! We know that stench odor a mile away. ;)
My daughter sniffs her Dad when she see him & comments, "I'm just checking Dad".
Tell your little one, to keep an eye out for Da, then tell hubby all eyes are on him..."so be good!"
I worry too about my hubby, every now & then, he says he wishes he could smoke. I sigh, and say..."no you don't". I tell him that repeatedly for about 15 seconds until his urge to smoke is gone. (I think he's gaining weight though...it's only been 3 days! for him) Then again, I maybe driving him batty. ::)
Are you still without a patch???? God Bless you! It's too early for me I think...I'm a late bloomer any way. The patch is sooo expensive!!! but in the long run, I will have saved a bundle & hopefully reduce illness within my illnesses...
Had a vaso-vagal attack last night...my blood pressure dropped, pulse dropped...etc... it worried my hubby so that he wanted to take me to hospital...(he forgets) I put my legs up, head without a pillow & kept the cuff on till my pressure was back to normal... drank lots of water too, which always helps.... I have a doctor appointment in the AM so she can calibrate my cuff.
Did I mention today was a new day? and that I havne't smoked in 5 days.... (heheheheh)
I am so good.
Love you all!
Rach
Rachel,
You made me laugh out loud. I could just see all of this group with their little pink jackets saying "We bad! We bad!!" ;D
You know telling your children to watch out for both of you is a great idea. There is a lot of guilt around doing what a child doesn't want you to do. That's what stopped me. My little boy(long ago) said "Mommy, please don't smoke. People die when they smoke. I need you." Stopped me cold. Every time I wanted to smoke, I'd think of what would happen to my child if I died.
Get your children to tattle on you to each other. Guaranteed to stop you!!
After all...you all DO want to be members of the "Purty Stinkers Club" and wear little pink jackets doncha!! Doncha!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Billye
Keep up the good work ladies; I'm very proud of your persistence and determination to stop smoking. But more than that ...I want to see a picture of you in those pink jackets!!! Keep on truckin' Good thoughts coming your way, Nana
Good job Mim and Rachael, (and Mim's huibby). You are doing great.
quig
Good morning chairman of the purty stinkers club and the other pink jacketed 'we bad' ladies,
Was so pleased to read your messages, Rachel you should be so proud, you have done this, I am very proud of you.
We are all fine here, hubby doing ok, still off them and has not cheated, he is doing well on the patches and is better than I expected.
I am fine, the sore marks are getting better now, I am still not using anything and am getting by fine, am not getting humpy or anything, and can still be in the room with other people without them feeling the need to run for cover in fear of their lives.
Day 14 today and we have some of Harry's friends around for the afternoon / sleepover / all day tomorrow so watch the news for breaking story on mass murder in Blackheath, London, 'insane red head goes on rampany nicotine quest'. Nah, we will survive this too.
Thanks for your support Quig, Nana, Billye, Lesleyjoy and all the other members who have taken the time to post their support for us.
Love n Hugs
Mim
Purty Stinking Pink Lady
Mim..
This makes me so happy and so proud. I'm just so very proud of the whole group. I just know you're going to all make it. If you all make it thru the Super Bowl without any mass murders or weird funny ladies running naked thru the streets grabbing everyone's cigarette, I'll be ever so very proud!!!!
Sjogren's World has lots of "Purty Ladies Stinking Purty"!! :D :D :D :D :D
Billye
Good Afternoon Purty Ladies! And all Supporters!...you all Stink Purty too :)
Mim, I'm so proud of you & your hubby. Mine, is still holding on without too many troubles.
How'd the stay over fair? Have you done a body count to make sure all are still present? I remember those days when my daughter had slumber parties..... 15 screaming little girls and a defrosted refrigerator the next AM. (and me sneaking off outside to smoke & watching the door)...oh the horror.
No one really knows that I've quit, cause most don't know that I smoked! The few I did confide in were shocked that they didn't know to begin with. I knew it though.
Billye, I'd like to hear of others who Stink Purty... they could join this club you know. Who knows how far it could go? I'd bet Oprah Winfrey would invite us to her show...then everyone could see all the Good that it is. Most people make no big deal of it...and it should be a Big Deal! These days, the world needs to see good things happen when people who are ill, stick together, or Stink Purty together! And too, to improve their lives.
Oh...I'm dreaming of that Pink leather jacket.... ;D
Another issue that's been on my mind is, Stopping Cold Turkey... I'm against it in one respect & I'll explain. If you have smoked a better part of your life, then just stop... how can your weak body adjust?
Most would become stressed out & that can not be healthy to an already damaged heart or lungs. In some cases causing a stoke or heart attack... it's true.
I feel or think, it's better to let your doctor know that you want to quit instead of surprising him/her. Better to be safe than sorry and not end up in the ER. And is why I believe using a nicotine patch or other is safest, then gradually decreasing the dose. After all, you start with one cigarette and gradually work up to 1-2 packs and for some 3 packs a day! (I don't see how anyone could do that, but I have heard of it).
Stress is not good, smoking is not good, but we need to be realistic too.
Okay...my fingers are stressed...I am pooped.
but today is very good day #6
Stink Purty,
Rach
Rach,
I tried to research out the negative effects of "cold turkey" cessation of smoking. The only thing I've found is the coughing and the mucus discharge. I do agree that if I were to have to quit smoking, I'd probably do it with my physcian's knowledge.
Maybe Linda has some ideas on this..
Billye
If one choses to quit "cold turkey," there is a reaction to loss of chemicals in the body. Most withdrawal symptoms peak 48 hours after you quit and are completely gone in six months.
Without trying to scare anyone, a lack of nicotine can produce a wide range of withdrawal symptoms, from none to any or all of the following:
Cough and increased mucus
Headache
Nausea
Constipation or diarrhea
Falling heart rate and blood pressure, or paradoxical "racing heart"
Fatigue, drowsiness, or insomnia
Irritability
Difficulty concentrating
Anxiety
Depression
Increased hunger and caloric intake
Increased pleasantness of the taste of sweets
Tobacco cravings
Your doctor can prescribe nicotine and non-nicotine based aids. He can also refer you to counseling or to other cessation programs to get you through the withdrawal stage, if you chose not to replace the nicotine by another route, or with another drug.
And of course you have abundant support and encouragement here, and the added bonus of "stinkin purty".
Rach,
When my hubby quit smoking "cold turkey" we almost didn't make it to our 50th. Number 7 on Linda's list almost caused us to divorce or my kids having to see me on "Visitation Day". ;D I couldn't believe this horrible person was the same one I married and adored. That said, we did make it, but it could have been so much more pleasant if he had gone to the doctor and went with the therapy approach.
No matter how you do it, you will "Stink Purty".
Hugs and God Bless,
Pooh
Good for you for quiting smoking!! An investment in your future! I have a friend that quit after many years by using peppermint oil on her tongue everytime she had a craving. It worked for her and she smelled great! She has not smoked in over 2 years now.
Sewgirl
day 14 - still stinkin purty ;D

Mim
Purty Stinker - Purty Stinker
Keep going girl, you're doing great & I'm very proud of you.
oh yes.... there was nothing on Linda's list that will make us cross-eyed ::)
Go Gang!! :D Go all you Purty Stinkers :D ;D ;D
Are you finding it easier yet? And have you killed anyone??? :D
Thanks Linda !! We always appreciate the information.
Keep it up you are doing great!!!! :D
Billye
Leader of the "Purty Stinker's Gang!!" :D
:-[
i saw a little ant climbing on the water spout.
i squished it with a paper towel.
I'm sorry. I lost my cool for a moment, but I'm ok now.
HOW ARE U COACH!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
how's therapy going?
love you all,
Stinkin Purty
Hi Ya'll!
Watch it! Don't kill the ants! God is watching and so am I ;D
Rach, I finished my therapy today. The evaluation showed improvement 100% in some of my measurements and I know I am stronger and my balance is better. The down side of this is that 4 weeks didn't do a diddle for the pain :'(
But hey..stronger and more balanced is better.
I really didn't know when I started this thing with the "Purty Stinker" comment that I'd get such a good thing going. I know when my Grand Dad said this to me..I couldn't have been more than 11 years old. This comment has stuck in my mind for 50+ years. He was so great. And so are all of you.
Remember..We are Watching...Grandpa, God and The Coach..
Billye
Hey Billye, glad the therapy has finished, and although the pain persists there has been some improvement in the balance and strength, will keep fingers crossed for you.
Rach - you should be ashamed of yourself picking on the itty bitty antie wanties, if you wanna squish something make it a big something so you get some form of satisfaction, a giant bean bag or something.
God, my brain is seriously going.
Day 15, getting easier all the time (having said that could easily go out and buy a packet of cigarettes - am not kidding myself I am a non smoker yet) Having to get a serious check on eating, I ate 4 hot cross buns yesterday and hubby ate 8. We are going to be the size of houses by the time we have finished.
Love n Hugs (special thought for Grand Dad)
Mim
Stinking purty but getting fatter
Eating is a crutch for people who are trying to stop smoking. Here's a good website for getting some hints on how to help the "munchies attack". Try to aim healthy with your diet. Remember this is all about being healthy. http://www.actnowbc.gov.bc.ca/EN/everyone/healthy_eating_for_ex-smokers_and_people_trying_to_quit/?PHPSESSID=70e8724041f3a53ce9295f61b8383243&
Keep it up Gang!! Stop that smoking!! We don't want you to give up one bad habit and then take on another one with the overeating. We want you to be one of the
"Getting Healthy Stinking Purty Gang" !!! :D :D
Billye
OK, another addition to the list: Quitting smoking is hazardous to the health and well-being of ants.
Linda, I gave him proper burial! in the shamrock plant. :'(
Billye, I'm glad to hear you've gained some strength back. Pain won't stop us, will it? Anything gets in our way.... we'll just barrel though! We Bad, yeahhha!!!
Do you have exercises to do daily or like routine? I try to walk everyday, but it's so cold out I just can't take it. Hang in there coach!
Mim.... we can't smoke (Grand-Dad, is watching). Great! now I'm paranoid & every grand dad I see.... "No Grand-Dad, I don't smoke".
Congrats Mim! and to hubby and for H!!! I hope things are well this week end for all.
I've no appetite since I quit. Maybe it's the amoxicillin/plaquenel/celebrex/darvocet..???
I think I have thrush though. Going for my appointment in the AM to get blood results, blood pressure..etc... all that fun stuff.
My hubby is getting full of hot bread & candy... (he's going to explode I'm afraid)
If he does, I'll put him in the Shamrock plant ;)
7 smoke free days for me & 5 for hubby.
Love you all,
Rachael
To all the Quitters from one who has been "smoke-free since 11-13-89" congrats and you can do it. Just do it!!! Grit your teeth and refuse to give in to temptation!
I do symptathize.....remember the cravings....still have them on occasion 17 years later. Remember bawling my head off late at night with the rest of the family in bed. Big crocodile tears! Wah!!!! Back then, there was only one "thing" to help you quit and it was nasty old Nicorette gum. Everyone hated that gum, but it enabled me to get off the butts. Now, if I can just badger my daughter into...............oh, never mind. I just have to keep myself in check and never let my guard down.
My hubby quit 5 years after I did. I never thought he would, could, ever. He did it though. He went to a acupuncture person and says that did it for him. I added to my Nicorette gum one visit to a hypnotist, although I wasn't hypnotized. Maybe it was the hundred bucks I paid her. I remember smoking my last cig on her front lawn before my appointment. She came out and interrupted my ceremony and asked "can I help you?" I said "no, it's just my last cigarette and I'd rather be alone." LOL. Lucy
Rach,
Give hubby a great big slobbery kiss and tell him he "Stinks Purty". ;D :D
He'll love it!
Billye
Hello,
Day 16 - stilll not had one, still off the patches, my skin has finally stopped breaking down and started to heal now.
Hubby still off cigs too, had a really close call today, but he managed to resist.
Think the eye thing has thrown me more than I realised as I have found the last couple of days real hard, but will persevere.
Well done Rach, you and hubby are the bomb, keep it up.
Hugs
Mim
Purty but Porky
Hi Purty,
Don't worry about the Porky until you have your medical problems on an even keel. We or almost all of us have been through it at one time or another. I am still fighting it as you know.
If you can conquer smoking, this other battle will be a piece of cake,...........oops, maybe I should have used a different comparison. Sorry. :-[
Anyhow, Mrs. M, hang in there, there be better days acom'in. Congrats! on the 18 day anniversary.
Hugs and God Bless,
Pooh
Hey Mim...
We like "Purty Porkie Stinkers"!!!!! ;D :D
You are all doing a fantastic job and I'm so proud of all of you. Mim get some munchies, celery, rice cakes don't have many calories and satisfy the munching instinct, just get things that you can chew on. It'll help.
Rach, I'm supposed to be doing exercises and stretches every day. But I'm taking up the slack for my hubbie who is now suffering back problems so I feel like I'm getting the exercise I need. So I'm skipping the exercise stuff. I am stretching in the morning before I get up. It really helps the morning stiffness.
I gotta get in shape so I can dance with the bad " Stinky Purty Group"! :D :D
Billye
Yeah,
18 days and stiil going, did not even think about cigarettes when I got up this morning, and have only had one mild craving today so something is doing well.
L n H
Mim
Purty and crave free
;D YAY MIM!!!!!!!!
Wow Mim!!!! 18 days...just great!!! :D Did you ever think you could do this? ...I did, I knew you could do it! You will look back on this and think Wow! I did it!!
We'll have to start calling you "Stinking Purty Crave Free Mim"!!!
Keep it up!
Billye
Ten days for me!!!!!! I only get a couple urges a day, but they only last about 15-20 seconds.
Eight days for hubby!!!..I told him NO MORE BREADS... He bought a pack of ----(I not saying that dirty word)... you know! and I said..."Why??? Are you Freaking Nuts"??
He said he hid them...??? (why)
"You're not having to hide them from me. Cause I'm moooving on Flash, I don't need that stink". (heheheheh)
I call him Flash...cause he's slow movin... to my standards. :)
He said he bought them, because he knows he can't smoke them. (what the heck is that?)
Well I think I'll go buy a Harley cause I know I can't drive one!
Mim... you're almost home!! Yippppeeeee!!!! I'm thinking about you girl...
Stink Purty all,
Rach
Rach,
Good to hear from you and it's great you are sticking with this! I'm afraid hubby may be in denial about his smoking habits. :( Tell him he simply has to toss those things out. It is too tempting to give into the urge if they are handy. I had to throw out the cigs, lighters and all the ashtrays. It's necessary to get rid of anything that smells like tobacco.
Keep it up Rach!! Your are doing great!! :)
"We got a winner folks!" Rach is another member of the "Stinking Purty Crave Free Gang"!! ;D ;D :D :D
Billye
Great job Rach. We are all so proud of you and wow what a great attitude you have about it. You are amazing. Keep it up.
Yippeeee for you.
Hugs,
quig
YAY for Rach too!!!!! ;D
Mim, you are on your way girl. Good job. You ladies are very strong and should be proud of yourselves.
Hugs,
quiger
Oh I am so proud of you two. You are doing so good. I knew you could do it. Hang in there, you will 'Stink So Purty" we won't know you.
Hugs, Pooh
Morning all,
Well 3 weeks today and have not given in.
Went out to a friends last night for dinner and had a couple of drinks and had a quick crave for a ciggie but managed to force it away by devouring a large amount of raspberry trifle - not a good move me thinks - anyway it helped that no one in the company I was with smoked after their meal.
I have been having very vivid dreams since I quit smoking (I assume it is connected) and have total recall of them. I had the strangest dream last night I went shopping during lunchtime with my head teacher (as if) and during this she lit a cigarette and handed one to me and I lit it automatically, I then thought Oh I have given up, well I will just finish this one, no harm done. I did not finish it - it tasted yuck -. The strange thing is (a) I would not go shopping with my head teacher and (b) she does not smoke.
Hubby still off them. I am so proud of him and his achievement, he has always been real heavily into his smoking so a major pat on the back for the love of my life.
Anyway enough of my nicotine starved mad ramblings, again thanks for all the encouragement and support.
How U doin ant murderer ?????
Love n Hugs
Mim
Purty and Dreamy
Mim,
Great minds do run on the same track!! :D I thought of you this morning and I logged in and lo and behold!! There's Mim!! Wonderful to hear you are doing so well. I am so proud of you and your hubbie. Give him a big kiss and tell him he stinks purty!! ;D
About your dreams,... I think that anytime there is anxiety or pressure on a person, they are more likely to dream about whatever is causing the anxiety. Now why you threw the head teacher in there I'm not sure... Dreams are weird and I always dream more when I'm anxious. Guess we'll call it the nicotine devil trying to make sure you don't stink purty! ;)
Keep it up,
The nicotine devil chaser,
Billye
Rach & Mrs. M,
You two gals are going great! And look at the influence you have on your hubbies. Men always a love a challenge. I am so proud of the pair of you.
Mrs. M you are amazing, I've never heard of someone smoking in their dreams. :D At least that way you will still "stink purty".
Go girls, GO! you are doing great!
Hugs, Pooh
Hey Purty Coach! We stinking real Purty!! ;D
:) 14 days for me, & 12 for hubby.
Urges getting less & less. My lifestyle or routines have changed, obviously for the better. Keeping busy with some early spring cleaning. My cats are cuddling up to me more.
Thank you Mim... You started & gave me the thought, that maybe I could stop too.
Love you gal!
by the way... I am sleeping much better. For one, the plaquenil and I'm certain due to stopping smoking. I'm gettting a much more "rested" sleep.
Reading more info about benefits of not smoking.

Hi Rach,
All excellent reasons to hang in there. You can do it and look at all the advantages you will have.
Hugs, Pooh
Hey Rach,
Wonderful news!! :D I'm so proud of you both. Are you finding that people who smoke actually stink yet? You will get this way before long. I find tobacco actually offensive smelling now.
Keep it up and tell your husband how proud of him I am. :D
One of the other advantages of stopping this nasty habit is that your cats will live longer too. They aren't having to breathe second hand smoke. Hey... anything that causes your kitties to snuggle more is great!!! Kitty snuggles are the best. ;D ;D And you will all be "Stinking Purty!"
Billye
One thing... I have never smoked in-doors. So my kitties never endured that torture. but they did smell it on me, when I came inside from outside! That shows you that even though you only smoke outside.... the stench will still stick to your clothing!
Anyone who reads this...please, if you gotta smoke, take it outside...your pets suffer from the odor...they're breathing into their tiny lungs.
Billye, none of my friends smoke. Unless I went to a bar or other, I could only imagine the smell. But I do remember my mother-in-laws house odor....peewwwww!
Rach
Well hello all,
3 weeks and 3 days, still not cracked.
Have been on half term this week with harry so thought I might be a bit tempted, not being busy etc, but have managed ok.
Billye - with reference to the smell of smoke being offensive - I seek out people who are either smoking or have just finished a cigarette, what a joy the smell is - so no have not reached that point yet.
Rachel, loved the breakdown of what changes happen over the days/weeks/months I think the problem is (with me anyway) I was well aware of the damage, and well aware of what giving up would do for me, I was still willing to smoke for many years with the mind set of, one day, one day, well that day came, at last, and now that info you posted is read and actually absorbed as some of the benefits I already feel.
Still having the weird dreams, last night was - wait for it - the government had made an official break from giving up smoking segment everyday, therefore for a short period each day you could smoke, but still be classed as a giving up smoking person.
How weird is that, I might do a search on the net for weird dreams and quitting. I am actually quite un nerved by some of the dreams, not only to do with smoking, but some of them are strange in their own way without any smoking involvement. They remain very vivid, and are still happening about every other night after 3 weeks. :( :(
Hubby still off them, got a bit of a thing going with gum though, got a phone call yesterday when he was on his way home from work, saying have I got any gum, he can handle not having the cigs but he had run out of gum, go figure, at least it is cheaper I suppose, and sugar free.
Anyway you must all be getting bored with these postings now so will cut down to maybe once a week, don't panic, they will stop eventually a week will go by when you don't get a post and you can all heavy a sigh of relief ha ha.
Go there Rachel and Hubby - real proud of you stinkin purty pair!! ;D ;D
Love n Hugs and BIG BIG thanks for reading the ravings of an old nicotine hag.
Mim
;D
Stinkin purty gal and gum boy
Mim,
For some reason I feel so proud and teary eyed when I read your post. I'm proud of you and your husband of course but I'm also proud of this group for the support they have given you. When this thread started I thought to myself, "this thread won't last long". But everyone has given you such support and you and Rach and your husbands have all done so well. I like to think that part of the reason is the support we've given that has gotten you all this far.
WELCOME TO THE STINKING PURTY CLUB!!!! You've earned it!! You are now official members. ;D :D :D ;D
Billye
Mrs. M and Rach, and hubby's,
I am so proud of you sticking with it. You will all have such a great time in the future. Breathing will be easier and you will have a easier time with everything. Congrats! to all of you.
Billye, I thought the same thing when Mim mentioned in chat that she was going to start this thread. Ain't we a great bunch of supporters. I too hope we have helped in some small way to encourage this fantastic feat.
Go girls, Go! Stink Purty Forever!
Hugs and God Bless,
Pooh
Hi All,
Still not smoking! I'm been ill for the past few days, same old stuff.
I wanted to thank all of you who supported me in this effort to quit. It helps knowing that others can appreciate the struggle, in too, making up my mind to just quit.
I'm pretty sure I couldn't have done that on my own... perhaps I could, but not sure in that.
I do believe that in quitting, will make a huge difference in lowering my symptoms and hopefully heal some illness too... one never knows.
Anyway thank you ((((ALL))). You're a grand bunch of people & you've made, making the world nicer, caring, understanding, thoughtful place to live...because you've shared experiences, your knowledge and love.
I'm signing off for awhile, but I'll check in periodically to see how all are doing.
Take care & God Bless,
Rach
I'm glad you're still doing well as far as not smoking, hope you feel better soon all round.
We'll miss you, but I'm glad you still plan to keep in touch, and let us know how things are going for you.
Rach,
I'm so sorry you're not feeling well. Please come back soon and let us know how you are. Hugs to you and congrats on the will to quit the smoking. I know you're "Stinking Purty"
Billye
Stinkin Purty Girl and Gum Boy still going good

Love it!! Love it!! Love it!!! :D Mim and Gum Boy stinking purty, gumming purty and I hear looking purty! ;D
Great Mim, I'm so proud of you both.
Billye
Mrs. M, You are doing great. I knew you could do it. ;D Tell hubby he's doing good too. I know how much his quitting too, has helped you stay on track. Bravo! to both of you.
Rach,
I hope you feel better real soon, but please do keep up the great work of quitting. Please don't be a complete stranger, let us know now and then how you are doing.
Hugs and God Bless,
Pooh
6 weeks today still stinkin purty
(http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t309/smileyface131/yeamim.jpg)
;D
Same here! Hubby too ! Though still using the patch, it's better than the smoke.
I didn't know my tongue (looking at it) had so many tiny taste buds. Food tastes the same sort of. I don't like my cooking though :)
Weird... I've had a nose bleed ever since I've quit! Is that part of all this or Plaquenil???
I don't know how many days it's been (what month is this?)
not that it matters....WAHOOOOO! I still stink purty.
Rach
(http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t309/smileyface131/yearach.jpg)
Mim & Rach,
Woo Hoo you two! I knew you could do it, and I hope you are feeling better also.
Rach, I don't know about the bleeding in your nose. I would check it out with your doctor. I am on Plaq, but haven't noticed any bleeding with it. I do however, have bleeding from time to time, and yes, my rheumy tells me it's from the SJS. But I would still have it checked out. No bleeding should be ignored.
Congratulations you two, you are doing so great.
Hugs, Pooh
Rach,Mim and anyone else I missed....I just got home from the hospital with my husband and it will take awhile to catch up. But...I just wanted to jump in here and tell you all how very very very very very very very very very very very very
very very very very very very very very very very very very proud I am of my Grand Dad's Stinking Purty Club :D ;D
Billye
boy oh boy!!
Thank you Billye, Pooh & Linda! and I'm not forgetting that gal Mim!
I'm proud of all of us. You guys deserve a star for your crowns! And I'm sure one day you'll get those.
I can't believe all that's happened here, my gosh! I haven't had time to read all the posts.
You know, i wish I could hug everyone. It's hard to give time to every post, sometimes hard to respond to many who just need someone to listen & validate....
I wish I could hug all of you.... I love you guys for the care you show, not just me, but everyone here. Your building bridges, and what a wonderful thing you've done.
Rach
It makes me so happy to see you all doing so well with leaving the butts alone. I know first hand how nice you all smell since leaving them behind. I know how different my home smelled when my hubby quit. It's been 11 yrs. since he quit and not until a friend of ours stepped in the front door for a moment with a cigarette did hubby realize how different the house smells. It was 20 degrees out, but when our friend left he opened a window and the garage door to the kitchen. Then went out in the garage and turned the fan on for about 15 minutes. He is still telling people how amazed he was at the smell from just one cigarette.
I am so proud of you all for your accomplishment. I hope you can continue to leave the stink sticks alone. Keep up the great work. ;D
Hugs, Pooh
Eight weeks tomorrow we still purty stinkers in this house!!!!!
Rach - how you and hubby doing girl jump in and let us know pls ?????????
This is great news Mim. I was afraid to say anything, afraid you had started back. That's my girl Mim!!!! I want the world full of "Purty Stinkers"!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D
Rach,
How are you doing? Are you still hanging in?
Billye
Allthough this has nothing to do with the group..........I'll get on the happy bandwagon as my daughter is on her 12th day of no smoking. She is using the new medicine from Pfizer and seems to be doing well. She has, tried before, of course and succeeded for awhile. I think each time she tried it set her up for the final--let's hope this is it. She has Type I diabetes and I know how horrible it is for her to smoke.
I have been "off cigs" since 11-13-89. Congrats to all. I know how hard it is.
Lucy
Lucy,
Congrats to you and lots of group hugs for your daughter. I'm glad to hear she is working hard on this issue. She'll be glad she did when she finally can say "I quit smoking". Tell her she can be part of the "Purty Stinkers". ;) :D :D
Billye
Kudos and congratulations! I quit smoking 29 years ago- it was the hardest habit I ever stopped, and I had some heavy-duty ones. What helped me: sugarless gum, toothpicks, carrot sticks, (oral gratification) plenty of water and exercise.
I have no sense of smell but cigarette smoke still sickens me.
Be strong and be proud!!!!!
Okay 10 weeks today and the benefits I have experienced:
Can go upstairs without huffing and puffing.
Can get washing from linen basket and load washing machine without huffing and puffing.
Mr car smells like a car not an ashtray.
I don't spend my life stinking of smoke.
My cooking is not all that or my taste buds have changed/woken up.
My skin is better.
My eyes look better?????
My purse is FULLER!!!!
We got a skip yesterday and cleared the garden:
It took half the time, as we were not stopping every half hour for a cigarette break, I did not get out of breathe and managed to work for about 5 hours, and chest wise/breathing wise I felt fine afterwards.
This last thing I mentioned about the garden really surprised me, in the past I have dreaded things like this, knowing I would be suffering with my chest and sweating etc, NONE OF THAT, I was so pleased it has made me even more determined to carry on with the I don' smoke thank you very much, as it has hubby also.
So just a quick update that this quitting really works and does actually make your life better, as much as I hate to admit it!!!!!!
Mim ;)
Still a purty stinker in the U.K.
Oh Gosh Mim..you gave me tears again this morning. But happy tears. I am so very proud of you and of all of this group for supporting you.
So now we are gonna have a "Purty Stinker's" group in the UK??!!! Wow! Grandpa's going international. Keep it going Mim. We love it!! :D :D :D
Billye
When husby and I quit, we wore buttons that said, "I'm a non-smoker". Welcome to the club!
You deserve to treat yourself from your saved money- I bought myself aquamarine earrings when I quit.
Whenever someone comments on them I tell them they are my non-smoking present.
Mim,
You are doing so great! I wish I could get out in my garden again. I tried to today and did got a little done before "Fred" decided he wanted to help. Yeah, Sure he did! Anyway, just being outside in this beautiful weather did me a world of good.
I am so proud of you and your hubby, leaving those stink sticks alone. Now you will be able to smell all those purty flowers again.
Take care and keep on, keeping on.
Hugs, Pooh
My daughter is on her 6th week of no smoking and, as a mother, I'm proud and less worried about her. She is a type I diabetic and this is the best news she could give me. She is taking a pill made by Pfizer (chantix?) and it seems to have worked for her when other stuff did not. This apparently has a 70% success rate.
Congrats to all ex and non-smokers. Quit date: 11-13-89
Lucy
Tell her she should be real proud of herself ;). I am now about 13 weeks down the line and it really does get easier each week. Problem is I am spending about £5.00 a week on mints.... Oh well what I save on the cigarettes will now go on the dentist :-\
Mim
Mim,
You made me grin...and then laugh out loud! :D Thanks so much. I'm delirious that you are still stink weed free! Keep it up. Oh..how's hubbie doing on the regimen? He still stinking purty?
Lucy,
Having our children cigarette free is a wonderful gift. Wish I could get mine to do this.
Sure glad your daughter is winning the battle.
Billye
Still purty stinkers in this house especially for Billye
Oh Mim how wonderful!!!!!!!!! I knew you could do it. That is so great. When I saw the post come up again, I thought "Oh, no, she's smoking again". I know you have been through so much these past couple of months. I am so proud of you, you are a strong lady.
WHOOPEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! Mim's House Is Stinky Purty!!!!!!!!!
Hugs and Love,
Pooh
MIM!
Wahoo / Way to GO Girl!!!!!
Way to go - okay, we'll all meet at the Stinky Purty House! Just kidding, but
CONGRATULATIONS!!! ;D ;) :)
Patze
Mim-and all other quitters-
Yes, big time congrats are in order. Never, never let your guard down. Surprising after almost 20 years, I can still find a time when I "think" about it. I am a quick learner though and do not forget how hard it was.
My daughter used something from Pfizer called "chantix" or "chantrix" and it has worked when other things have not. I've heard it has a 7% success rate, but this is only second hand info.
Lucy
18 weeks and still stinkin purty

Just thought I would check in....
I am still off the dreaded nicotine, have managed to put on weight but have started running with a friend, on the grass, and watching what I eat quite closely until I manage to lose it again, but apart from that am feeling pretty good. Chest much better, and the dryness has eased somewhat. The main thing is I can smell other people when they have been smoking, and as much as some people find this revolting I actually quite enjoy it, it seems to soothe the savage beast inside me.
Sandi, how are you doing, you have been at it longer than me so you must be coming up to 6 months now, let me know whats happening.
Rach you still off them girlie, let me know please....
Thanks ;)
Mim
Still stinkin purty for Billye and Grandad
Mim,
As someone who lost her beloved Dad to lung cancer one year ago tomorrow, I'm in tears sitting here, reading your post. My tears are tears of gratitude that one more child, husband, sister, mother, brother, lover, or friend won't lose their loved one to this nasty habit.
Thank-you, Tracy
Mim, I'm so delighted!!!!! ;D ;D I wonder but am always afraid to ask. Grandpa loves it too!!! We are just so very proud of you. Keep it up girl! :D :D
Grandpa and Billye loving the Stinkin Purty Crowd!!!! :) :) :)
Tracy, I am so sorry for your loss.
Billye
Congratulations Everyone!!! for still being smoke free. I quit in December of 2004. It really does get so much better. I still find myself now eating something, and thinking , I dont remember it tasting this good before. On the down side ,yes , I have gained weight, but some of that has also been due to sjogrens. I have never regretted quitting, and I thought I would never be able to.
susanep :) :)
Thank you Tracy (((((((((((((((((((Tracy)))))))))))))))))))))))
Mim
Yeah Billye still going.......
Mim,
So glad to hear you are still "stinking purty". I hope with all the family problems of late you are holding up well. I hope all is coming right and you are feeling better.

Still stinkin purty
Great Mim! No going back now! ;D
Terrific Mim! So glad you updated us. I wanted to ask a couple weeks ago, but with you being so sick with that bad leg and all, I was a little afraid. Stressful times are the hardest to hang in there with.
You are a marvel dear girl. So proud of you. Keep on "Stinkin Purty".
Hugs, Pooh
Awwww Mim,....you made me cry. I'm so very proud of you. I know the stress of feeling bad probably does make it hard as Pooh says. But you are made out of really strong stuff. Keep up the good work.
Billye and Grandpa are sooo proud of Mim!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
Billye
Mim,
WE"RE counting on you to keep up the good work. My quit date was 11/13/89 and still remember how hard it was.
You're a success and will keep on being a success. Or.........we might run ya' out of town. ;D
Lucy
I quit 1/1/1984. I watched my father die of cancer caused by 62 years of smoking. Today I can't even stand to be in the same room with a smoker....I think I must be allergic now. My teenaged son came home one night reeking of smoke....boy did he get more than he bargained for.....his proverbial 'sides' are all chewn up.....hasn't done it again since.
My very hearty ATTA BOYS to everyone who even atempts to quit. It's a tough road but after almost 24 years I can say it was absolutely worth it.
Keep up the good work!
Julie
Mim,
So glad you have stuck with it and are still "Stinkin Purty". :D
Sue
Great news Mim!! Stick with it!! I quit on December 24th 1995 after smoking for 22 years....and I'm still "stinkin purty" too after all this time! I'm so glad I did it! I wish you continued success...........I know you can do it!!!
To all of you that have given up and continue to stink purty I think you are all the

I have just finished a course to become a smoking cessation facilitator and knowing what i know about smoking you guys have done a great job and must have very strong wills. You set a gerat example to those out there struggling with the addiction.

Mim
You have been a real inspiration to me. I am setting Sunday the 27th as my quit date. I just hope I can do as good as you. I have the SJS and Fibromyalgia, and some mild asthma. My hubby smokes but he will go outside.
Susanep
I read your post to Mim about your talk with God and quitting on Sunday. That also inspired me. That is why I am quitting on Sunday, the Lord's day.
I would appreciate any and all prayers and help anyone has. I will keep you posted everday, maybe that will also help as I will be telling you my ups and downs.
I have a great family and now I am blessed to have a new family, my family here.
Thank you.

Cricket - YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!
I smoked for 25 years and giving up was the hardest thing I ever did. But I did. And Mim has. And you can too!!!!!! GO FOR IT!!!!!

Mim,
I'm so proud of you......you are doing a GREAT job!
HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY MIM!!!
Go Cricket....Go Cricket...Go Cricket! You can do it!
We're here to support you!
I'm another ex smoker...I smoked for 22 years and have quit for 12 now!
We will be rooting for both you and Mim!! (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/ad/cheer.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org)
Well done all you ex and soon to be ex-smokers ;) My eldest daughter(22) and my younger daughters boyfriend (28) both smoke and are addicted. I'm always threatening to buy them Nicobrevin for their birthdays. I guess after my eldest daughter gets married and then has a future pregnancy, will be when she quits :-\
Neither me nor my ex-husband smoked and nor does my eldest daughters fiance!!
Hooray for non-smokers,
Cheers Lesley
Good job all you ex-smokers and soon to be ex-smokers. I quit on a Sunday October 8th 2002 and never had another cig. It is just weird. Sometimes I think smoke smells good but most of the time it makes me sick. Now if I could just give up the ice cream!!!! Irish ;D
YEAH MIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D I'm so glad you are still
STINKING PURTY!!!!!!

Well cricket, I won't tell you it is easy and you should do it and if I can you can, as I don't know you, but what I will say is a year down the line I still love the smell when someone has been smoking and I could even say that I would start again easily at the drop of a hat, but having said all that, my skin, chest, sense of taste and general health are loads better, I am slightly richer (although it does not always notice in my purse) and my home and car do not smell like an ashtray when I enter either of them.
So I wish you all the best of luck and agree posting on here will make a difference. It helped me enormously even to the extent that part of the reason I stayed off them was not wanting to let all the people on here who supported me down.
So good luck and I am with you all the way...
Mim xx

You are so right about having this board to keep me accountable. Sometimes our own family means well and wants to help but they don't. I will let you know how Sunday goes.

Good Morning all, I'm so glad I found this thread! I am a smoker and have been for over 30 yrs. Just went to Rumy dr. couple a days ago and he mentioned to me again that I need to stop the smoking. I am over weight and scared of gaining any more weight. I know I need to stop but just haven't had the will power. The doctor told me there is a new pill out that is working for alot of people, so I think I will make an appt. with my primary and give it a shot. I have quit a couple of times in the past but only lasted about 6 months before starting. I'll let you all know when I'm ready and will come in here and post alot more I'm sure. I ALWAYS HATED THE SMELL OF THE SMOKE so I don't know why I still do it. UGHHHHH!!!
WooHooooooooooo! Good for you gal, keep it up!!
