Hi all,
Okay, here's a bit of a twist to an old topic and lets see what y'all like. The topic is movies, not just any old movie, but what is your favorite scary movie (or movies if you're a fan of the genre)???
I have a ton of "favorites", but if it comes down to it, here are a half dozen or so...
The Entity, still scares me enough that I have to leave on the lights
The Exorcist, everyones favorite movie to be afraid of :)
The Haunting, the 1963 version
Alien, whew, what a ride
The Andromeda Strain, the 1971 version
The Other, the 1972 version
Five Million Years to Earth, still creepy
Patze
Patze, NICE movie selection! ;D I am a horror/thriller movie BUFF. Love them! Sadly, I can't drag my hubby to a single one. I did once..HUGE mistake! Through the whole movie he would say, "That would never happen." or "Stupid!"..LOUDLY, so as not to scare his britches off I guess. It was embarrassing.
Mine?
Night Elm on Elm Street....Freddie and me are like THIS! (fingers crossed)
The Exorcist...creeps me out every time!
The Others...good old fashion creepiness
Halloween...;)
The Ring...seriously nice and creepy...
Paranormal Activity...yikes.
AngelHeart...
Shutter...
I could go on and on.....
Hi Cat,
I see that you like the physical side of the horror screen, and that's a good thing (good selection)! :D Me, I like a good mystery thrown into my horror and my mind will take it from there (big Hitchcock fan too).
Patze
Oh, Patze, the older I have gotten I do like more mystery. I can't take the gore. I guess my genre of choice would be Thrillers instead of my old past time, Horror.
Patze,
I can't do scary anymore! It keeps me up at night. My husband loves them. when I was young I use to love them, we use to go to the drive-in for all night thrillers. Not anymore. I watch something in one room and he watches scary in another.

My husband said to tell you to watch WV's best
Wrong turn I, II, III
You will never go in the woods again.
Yeck! No thanks!!
harlin
Hi Harlin,
Yep, seen them, and they had some tense moments, I was surprised that they weren't scarier (I had a few relatives that you would stay out of the woods and out of the streets in broad daylight when they were around, they seriously had some issues). Tell him that I still love the woods though! :)
Patze
Pet Cemetery I read the book and saw the movie.
The Exorcist
Mirrors
The Others
Amityville 1&2
White Noise
Seven
I have always loved horror movies, I can't watch some of the new ones, even though I want to, but just can't these days. I could have in my teens and 20's but not today lol
Oh, good movies, Mudpup! I am watching Pacific Heights right now. ;)
I quit going to Horror movies as I always seem to figure out who done it, what is gonna happen and when.
Either I got ESP or they are making them too obvious anymore.
;D Pisces, I know what you mean! They are all cloned plots pretty much!
Snow White
Sleeping Beauty
Cinderella
Beauty and the Beast
That is more horror than I can take!
I prefer something calming like Salt, and Terminator
I like your selections Mudpup and Joe! :)
Patze
What a fun topic!! Right now I like mysteries and thrillers more than SciFI and Horror movies.
When I enjoyed them some of my favorites were-
The Fly(1950-s version)
Klute( 1970"s) scary, but not horror or SciFi
Invasion of the Body Snatchers ( 1978?)
Alien( the first one only)
When we were kids(1950"s) our neighborhood theater would have Sat. matinees and feature scary movies,or Cowboy movies or
'The Bowery Boys' plus 10 cartoons
Catilee 2
Come to my house if the steelers lose
Catilee 2:
How could I forget the Fly and Alien!? ;D Also, I enjoyed the older version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers...hehe
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (give me the hee-bee-jee-bees just writing it).
Saw it when was about 13 in the 1970's in the summer in a rural area, with a bunch of friends. Then we walked home on the dark country road. So creepy.
On the flip side, the fun and/or feel good movies I love:
Sound of Music .... these are a few of my favorite things.....la da da da
Legally Blonde
Trading Places with Eddie Murphy and Dan Akaroyd
Somethings Gotta Give with Nicholson and Keaton
Ah, feel goods...Hmmmm...
13 Going on 30
Almost Like Heaven (Wow, Mark Rufflao again...;)
(I need to lose weight and was not offended, but loved Shallow Hal!)
The Family Man
You've Got Mail
So many more! (I'm such a movie buff!!)
And, have you seen "A lot like Love" with Ashton Kutcher? So cute. ;D
CAT
Chick flicks? Yes that could be considered another form of horror. They make up at least one whole shelf of our video case. I have always been a sucker for a romantic or screwball comedy with a happy ending.
Joe! ;D You are funny. Chick Flick = :o
hehehe
I agree. Joe, that's pretty funny; Chick flick=horror movie ;) I think most men feel that way.
I like all kinds of movies. But, this month our satellite co. is offering several free old Westerns channels and my husband is in 7th heaven! Lots of old 50's and 60's westerns...sigh...Football play-offs and westerns...well, Spring will be coming soon, right?
I completely forgot I AM LEGEND! Whoa...talk about disturbing. Watched part of it last night and had nightmares about being left alone on Earth. :o
Whoa, I have never watches horror movies. I could just not take it!
I don't watch many movies now but here are some that I liked.
Grouchy Old Men 1 and 2
Home Alone
Ghost
Snowy River
A Few Good Men
Overboard
Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. Love it, Love it, Love it! I hop I got the title right.
I lived about 2 blocks from the movie theater when I grew up and went to the movie every week for years. A couple of years ago I was up later into the night(nothing has changed with that) and the movie "The Out of Towners" with Jack Lemmon was on. It was in black and white and had a gal that I didn't know. It was absolutely a scream. If you ever get a chance to see it don't miss it. It thought it was better than the one with Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn. Irish
I have one movie that I go back to and watch over and over. It is a B&W called "The Day The Earth Stood Still". I do not like horror shows. While growing up, I was basically a latch key kid. We had an afternoon movie program that I would watch where they would play old BW movies Monday through Friday. After a few horror show and the nightmares that came with them, I swore off them. The action-adventure shows provided excitement without fear. Now there are so many delivery systems and so many shows. We have shelf of movies that are just for our grand kids. We have a shelf of chick flicks, a shelf of action adventure, a shelf of Sci-Fi and fantasy. The start of a self for Anime and Blue-ray. We have a shelf of books on tape and a shelf of books on CD for when we go for a drive.
Most of us were born in the age of radio, then BW TV, Color TV, 8 track tapes, Cassette tapes, Beta, VHS, CD's, Laser Disks, DVDs, HDTV, Blue-Ray, and now 3D. I started using a slide rule, then calculators came, next came desk top computers, Lap tops, palm tops, and now net books and I-pods/I-books. Our phones went from wired rotary dial (I do not remember using a crank) to touch tone, to wireless, to cell phones. I think of all of the technology advances that have happened during our lives and wonder what changed we have yet to see and what changes our grandchildren have yet to see.
I have seen my Children and Grand children behavior modified by what they watch on TV's and in the Movies. This hit home for me a few years ago when I was "glomed " by a teen at an anime convention where I do massage. This is a behavior that is found in Anime.
As much as we wish to ignore it, what we watch, the games we play, our friends and family all shape who we are. With both parents working, most children are left to games, movies and TV to shape who they are.
I like that movie too Joe,, plato mirada nickto
Oh yes, "The Day The Earth Stood Still" is one of my all time favorites (can you tell I like B&W's?).
Patze
Are you thinking of Klatu barato nikto ?
Joe, I think you got it! :D
