Title: Cadmium
Post by: navydad on December 22, 2010, 06:22:49 AM
For anyone that takes there kids to McDonalds and get those Shrek glasses, toss em out,, there finding high levels of cadmium in them,, the official comments from the commerce dept is that,, were not going to do anything since the glasses are more a size that is appriate for a adult to drink out of,, so I guess its ok to poison adults,, and there letting the industry police itself,,,,, ya that will work,, and its been along time since I drank anything that had a animamted charecter on it,,,

What is being demonstrated is that McDonald has chosen money over morals! Sorry, I forgot corporations have no morals.

the official response to this annoys the heck out of me. cadmium is toxic to humans, regardless of age. it's must worse for little ones but is very toxic to adults as well. makes me crazy that they're disregarding it as unimportant.

as for things made in China, products made in the US are sometimes found to have toxic heavy metals and such, too. the thing is, we make so few things, the perception ends up being that everything tainted comes from China because so many of our goods come from China. i'm not defending China -i abhor their use of child labor and such- but they aren't the only ones who do it. sadly, our companies and corporations are just as willing to poison us.

you are right echo,, lord knows our country itself has down a good job of killing us with some of the stuff they made or used to make, I live near a old steel mill,, been there since the teens,, if they knocked it down they would ahve to go down 50 feet to get rid of the toxins that are laying around,,

they make laptops over seas for about 40 bucks a piece,, sell them to us for 500,, or we see them on sale for 400 and think were geting a deal, but what would we stick under the tree if we didnt have slave labor overseas,, we make nothing in this country anymore,,

i'm in the environment, health and safety field, so i'm familiar with places like that steel plant. it's sad and scary how many hazardous waste/substance sites are around. what's even sadder and scarier is how many are near schools, houses, apartment buildings.

a friend of mine recently hired onto my company. he was getting directions to his first project -a hazardous waste site cleanup- and google showed a starbucks on the corner of the site. he laughed and said the map must be wrong. i told him that it probably wasn't, that i've been on haz waste sites right next to schools. (turns out it was technically wrong: instead of a starbucks, it was a dunkin donuts.)

i wish we made something, too. i try to buy american products whenever i can. but they're pretty hard to find.
