When everyone talks about joint pain, are you referring to knee pain,, ankle pain, elbow pain, but with no muscle pain involvement, when I say muscle pain, I;m referring to the type of pain where it feels like the muscles are being torn off your body with a dull hatchet every minute of every day,, THAT is my defination of the pain I have,, I am jsut curious of what joint pain people here suffer from and what there pain is like,, is it localized to just certain areas?, does it go away and come back,, ?
I experience it all! I have joint pain that can be specific to my ankles and wrists etc. This kind of pain feels very achy and I am very stiff. It feels cold to the bone. My muscle pain is like yours. I feel like someone is taking a knife and slowly butchering me. I have this pain from head to toe. It burns, it hurts, it's agonizing, no way to really explain it. Then I have joint point all over, in every joint possible all over the body at the same time. I am very stiff, weak, and pain down to the bones when this happens too.
I hope this helps!
Joint pain or arthralgia feels like a very stabbing, aching, burning pain.
The joints feel very stiff and it sometimes hurts to make certain movements.
I have a lot of joint pain but also swelling and inflammation in many of my joints .
I have pain daily in my joints: Both shoulders, knees, feet, ankles, hands, jaws, ribs, pelvis, etc .
Sometimes one particular joint (or well two as it's both sides-) will cause me more pain than the others.
It kind of switches from one joint to another, but they all cause a lot of pain and it doesn't go away nor improve.(By me atleast)
Probably requires the right treatment but this is different for everyone, Pred isn't giving me relief and I have been on it a few months now.
Only painkillers give me relief but there's always a place that will still hurt even when taking one.
I can relate to the muscle pain you experience, on top of joint pain or even without joint pain it can drive you NUTTY.
Hi Navydad
Mine is in my knee from an incident in 2008 which hurt it (not from sjs ). I just recently started getting more joint pains which are really flashing neon lights at me. This last month it started with my back which they call sacroiliac joint dysfunction and now both shoulders are acting up. I don't know of anything I did to em other than wake up;) it feels like it hurts in the bone, but the muscles still hurt like I did some strenuous exercise that I didn't do!
I also creak all over from head to toe...grinding joints (crepitus I think they called it).
Sha~ who is glad to see you back on the board!:)
All my joints are painful and stiff. It takes a couple of hours every day to get them movable.
My joint pain is stabbing, aching and burning, its awful. I mainly get it in my fingers, toes, and throughout the hands and feet. I get this at some point or another everyday. Less frequently the pain will be in my wrists, ankles, and elbows sometimes thigh bones. before plaquenil I had the pains in all of these places every day.
Stiffness in my wrists, feet and ankles every morning. Sometimes my wrists get stiff at night and keep me awake.
I also have a deep ache and soreness in my shoulders, neck and upper back every.single.day. Definitely in the muscles and maybe the joints too, I can't tell. It gives me a headache every.single.day. It's so bad that I'm debating postponing a surgery I'm supposed to have next month so that I can get to the rheum sooner. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. Pretty much it's made my joint pain take the backseat for the last month or so. :(
I have joint pain, my worst being in my knees. I have one knee replacement 8 years ago and it's loose so I have to have it re-done. I hope to have the other knee replaced at the end of this winter. This Friday, I am going in to have my big toe operated on. It's got arthritis and bone spurs. They will open up the toe on top and then scrape the bone and do whatever else needs done and stitch me up. My hands hurt, shoulders hurt and some of my back. Lucky so far about the hips.
I also have the muscle pain. That can be all over or at times just really bad in certain places. My rheumy took 3 years after SJS dx to decide I had fibro too. This is a good thread for people to compare their pain, if there is a way to do that. Lucy
I must be in a major flare, the pain in my joints, ankles knees hands, fingers and legs are crazy painful the last couple of weeks. My question to you all is, does anybody get swelling in their joints or just the terrible pain? My joints look funky but their not swollen, just horrible stabbing, burning pain!
If I walk more than 10 minutes or so, boy do I pay for it for hours. This Christmas shopping is very hard on me.... put I hate the thought of not ever going out again!
Feel Well All
Mary
Hi :)
I have joint pain that moves around. It's not constant. I had joint pain that was - and that got progressively worse - but that was osteoarthritis and I eventually got a new partial knee joint - so that excruciating pain finally cleared up. Sometimes my finger joints hurt. Sometimes my hips hurt. Mt shoulders often hurt but I know at least one of them has OA too.
I have more trouble with tendons. Like my achilles tendons hurt a lot and that makes walking painful. Often a lot of me hurts to touch. I don't know if its skin (neuropathy?) or muscles but running a finger down an arm can hurt, A gentle, friendly tap on the shoulder can elicit a yelp and the point tapped can still feel it five minutes later. Cuddling has become a no no which hubby ois understandably miffed about but understanding inasmuch as he doesn't want to hurt me.
Sometimes my knees hurt too but its not like OA - because it is sometimes - not all the time. I don't hurt like you do though navydad. I sincerely wish you find some relief from it.
Take care - Scottie :)
I have migratory joint pain. I will have it in the left hip one month, right hip the next. Then right shoulder, then left shoulder. It literally feels like somebody is stabbing me in the joint with a huge, sharp knife and is constantly twisting it. Pain is constant and agonizing. Pain medications barely even touch the pain. When this occurs, I cannot move the joint; shoulders are the worst, cannot move my arms and can barely function, no range of motion whatsoever. I've twice had to go on medrol just to be able to get movement in my arms back.
I have had muscle pain before in my neck/shoulders area, but this joint pain is unbearable. It usually lasts around a week or so and then disappears.
My main joint problem is in my hips. They are always painful on some level. It's just a deep aching that is almost like they are cold and sometimes it is extremely painful. I also have areas that flare up frequently primarily my neck and shoulders. This winter I'm finding my hands and feet much more painful than they have been previously. I have the migratory pain too. I'm just a rather large mess. In addition to this my joint slide out of place very easily. I can put some back myself but my neck and hips are the worst and I am able to manage it with weekly visits to the chiropractor. (I go to a college and the prices are based on income so it's cheap.)
The level of pain varies. I'm on constant pain medication but I find it just takes the edge off the everyday pain. I also find that I have a pain cycle and I have yet to figure out what triggers it other than doing too much.
I do not have "joint pain". My pain seems like yours. It's muscle pain and also my leg bones hurt like heck. The muscles feel like I've ran 1000 miles and then they are being shredded off my bones by wolves. My leg bones hurt. My legs feel frozen to me but to touch them they are warm. I feel like I am in a pool if ice water from the waist down and then someone has an ice pick and shoves it up my leg bones from the bottom of my foot. With every step it feels like the ice pick is being shoved farther up my leg bones. I'm told its the small fiber neuropathy. I feel cold (like cold air) as pain. So my house is 85 degrees in the winter and I am under a blanket thinking it's cold but it's really not. I just started on Savella with all the other meds and do feel a tiny bit better. I'm still at a small dose tho. I have to say that the 4th day I had been taking it I had my first day of no leg pain in40 years. It was the strangest feeling. I am back to hurting again but I am so blessed to have had that one day. It has given me hope that it may be possible to have more. It sounds like we have similar pain. When you stand in one place, like in line at the bank, do you feel like your legs cannot hold you up. I always feel like that when I have to stand for more than a minute. When the wind blow on my legs it feels like shards of broken glass being jabbed into my muscles. I start to cry uncontrollably because it is so painful.
My legs muscles feel like they are on fire. I compare it to an extreme sunburn inside my muscles. They burn and it feels like I am getting stabbed. My top of my feet burn and the bones in the top of my feel like they are going to break out of my skin. This pain is constant and never goes away.
I have different joint pains. I feels more like a deep ache and feel stiff. The joints in my index fingers are almost in constant pain, also my hips and sometimes knees and shoulders
sugarbugar has just descibed exactly the pain im in 24/7
as far as joint pain goes, for me it's mostly my wrists, hands, feet, and ankles. sometimes my shoulders and neck join in the fun, too. my joint pain is generally moderate in intensity and more of a dull ache than a sharp pain. i have been finding lately, though, that the cold makes my wrists hurt quite sharply. it feels like someone is stabbing pencils through them.
muscle pain ranges from a dull ache to slightly sharp (if that makes sense) and from mild to severe, depending on the day, what i've been up to, and the weather, etc. i experience muscle pain all over, but my worst pain is between and under my shoulder blades, upper arms, and thighs.
i also have very "loose" joints now, particularly in my hands, wrists, and feet. they're flexible, almost floppy really. does anyone else have that?
take care, all!

want to feel soemthing really weird, whenw we get some sun again,, stand in it with your legs facing teh sun,, the fronts almost feel normal,, a little hot but almost normal,, whie the back of the legs out of the sun feel like ice, so we have a mix of joint pain along with pure neuropathy told that its probably fibro, fibro does not do that stuff,, when you cant function due to pain and sensory stuff going on,, its def not fibro,,
Oh yes, joint pain all over. I have a herniated disk in my neck. Not bad enough to do anything about!! I have a sprained ligament in my left knee. It has been like this for
almost 2 years. Went to physical therapy for a month, only made it worse. Told by an orthopedic that he can't help me. I have tendinitis with impingement in my right
shoulder. I'm starting P/T next week. Hoping for the best.
I'm always rubbing my hands, knees, feet, legs...etc. My kids thought it was a nervous habit until I was DX'D. I have deep muscle pain & terrible joint pain.
I forgot about my hips, OUCH! Hurts to walk at times. I used to love shopping. I almost always have my daughter go now. My loving caring mother just bought me a
cane. wants me to get out more.
I have been taking Norco's for about four years ( only when really needed ) as of lately they are not helping. Dr. gave me Fentenal patches. does anyone use them? And
if so how well do they work for our kind of pain?
Have a great day,
~Laura~
I have joint pain in my hands, shoulders, knees, ankles, and toes. I would describe it as rheumatoid arthritic. I am getting to where I have problems using my hands.
I have severe pain in my hips and low back. It feels like somebody smashed them with a baseball bat. I have bursitis, SI joint issues. I get huge muscle knots all over my hips, low back, and butt. It hurts just to touch that area. My bones hurt. Sometimes my back is bad that i can't get out of bed. That happened a few years ago-- one side of my hip had rotated and stuck. That was the worst pain that I've been in-- even over natural childbirth.
For pain, Vicodin works best, but I can't get a script and it's a dangerous road to take. I have some Vicodin that I saved from my tonseilectomy and I use this if I have something to do that would involve me standing, walking, or sitting longs periods of time. Tramedol (Ultram) works OK-- I take this at night. I've been on every anti-inflammatory there is, but my stomach is so messed up now, that I am completely off of everything-- and I can feel it. My doc wants to put me on Celebrex. I just got off Neurontin-- that was a nightmare. My doc insists that I try all these Fibro drugs and they don't work.
I am starting to get neuropathy in my hands, legs, and feet. I tore my ACL in my right knee in half a few years ago and now both knees are messed up. My gait is severely messed up which throws off my whole upper body.

When I stand in the sun my skin feels like it is on fire. Even for a few minutes. I can't tolerate it. Can't tell if that's some kind of sun sensitivity or because I am so light skinned.

I have done the above before. I could never explain to anyone else what that felt like. They thought I was making it up. Glad I'm not alone.
Joint pain all over. Especially knees, ankles, wrists, feet, hands and shoulders. Yes, I guess everywhere.
Navydad, It does come and go. Different areas different days. Nights are usually the worse. If I could just sleep!! I wake up in pain all night long. My hands get so stiff, I wake up and I cannot bend them. do you have the same issues?
I don't expect this to ever go away, I would just like to be able to tolerate it a little better.
Love, harlin

Harlin,
That's me, in a nutshell. The pain is worse at night aand in the morning before I get going. And you are right, different pain for different days.
