Title: Sjogren's survival kit?
Post by: doodlebug on December 14, 2010, 05:57:25 PM
I left mine at home today and I thought I'd ask what you carry in yours.

I have-
Hard candy
lip moisturizer
lotion
eye drops
sun screen
eye glasses cleaner (because my skin flakes and makes them dirty)

And of course I always have at least one drink if not two.

Oh boy, let's see what I carry (in my huge bag! ;))....

Hard Candy
Mints
Lip moisturizer
Hand/body lotion
Sun screen
Sun glasses
Meds & vitamins (always carry a couple just in case I wind up going out and not being able to go home to take them)
Bottle of water
Bandaids (always cutting my hands and don't feel it ; only notice when the blood gets on things)
Tissues
Two kinds of eye drops

I think that's about it....

I know this probably isn't supposed to be funny but it is cracking me up that we all have the same "kit" with the same items in it!  I have friends who laugh their butts off at me with my lotion and lip balm - other people just don't get it!!! All I know is that if I was ever stranded on a deserted island I couldn't live without my handcream and lip balm.  I mean I have bottles and tubes and sticks of that stuff stashed EVERYWHERE!!!  I put lip balm on probably 20 times a day - no kidding.  The other day I had taken my lip balm out of my purse and forgot to put it back in and about had a stroke when I went to look for it.  My lips were sticking to my teeth they were so dry (SEXY - I know!)  Here's mine:

hand lotion
lip balm
sunglasses
gloves
bottle of water

I'm obsessed with Bion Tears preservative free drops right now.  I used to laugh at myself for having a "favorite" eye drop--I'm such a Sjoggie!--but, seriously, this is good stuff.

Other than that, lotion, lip balm, water bottle, sugarfree gum, sunscreen, hat/gloves/puffy coat in winter or big hat/cover-up/sunglasses in summer, and my "eye treatment" (an eye mask that I heat in the microwave and use to loosen the gunk in my eyes twice a day--Jordozmom, you are so right about SJS being a sexy disease).

sunglasses
keep  a pair of gloves at my desk in case my hands get cold
eye drops
When I go to the breakroom, i always carry two drinks back to my desk - I'm the two fisted drinker!

Yeah, I keep a sour brand and also a mint variety so I don't offend if I don't have too!

I don't have a SJS survival kit, but it sounds like a good idea; one that I will start to incorporate into my daily life because my lips and mouth are constantly dry, and my eyes are always blurred

Hey Brownskin,

Forgive me if you've mentioned it before (my recall ain't what it used to be), have you seen an opthamologist lately?  If you have, what did he say?

Take care of yourself, okay?

Hey Patze, yes I saw my Opthalmologist about 3 mos ago. He dx me with severe dry eyes, but said that I have no other problems with my eyes [other than astigmatism]. i told him that I had recently seen the Walmart optometrist due to the blurred vision, and he prescribed me some expensive glasses [some special glare lenses with a transition] that he said I need to wear ALL the time. The Opth told me that I actually do not need glasses, except for reading, and the problem is due to the dry eyes. He prescribed the Restasis, and an antibiotic drop because of an eye infection that I was starting to develop [puss in the a.m.]. He also told me that the pain in my eye was due to the dryness, as well as the excess runny eyes-go figure-runny eyes being a symptom of dry eyes. I hope this helps, Patze. If not, feel free to ask me
