Hi Jan, welcome. I'm a Yorkshire lass.

I've had the feelings you describe in your toes. Mine's related to arthritis. I also have Raynauds, and when my feet get really cold, the bones feel as if they're breaking.

Hello Janrud:

It may be something as simple as a dropped metatarsal or could be Morton's neuroma or like Kathy mentioned could be arthritis.  Might be advisable to see a Podiatrist or a Chiropodist as they can tell you what is wrong with your feet and if orthodotics would be helpful.

I have all three of the aforementioned wrong with my feet.  Some RA, dropped metatarsals and nerve issues but custom orthotic inserts in my shoes help me immensely.  I used foot baths, foot massage, anti-inflammatories and the combination of orthotics to minimize the pain.

Wishing you good luck,

Daisy

Hi Guys
Thanks for all your replies see rheumy again next week but neuro now thinks ms been tested for all things mentioned so just awaiting results of lumbar puncture which I had last week and evoked potential testing but this toe thing just does not seem to fit and I am in agony with it, I am alright if I do not walk far but even going some shopping I suffer.

Jan, I have a morton's neuroma on my right foot and the pain can be excruciating.  THe podiatrist gave me a little pad to wear under the two toes to the right of the big toe and that helps enormously.  The other thing that helps me is to wear shoes (clogs work well) with a wide toe box.

From what the podiatrist said, women's shoes are narrow in the toe box and so cram your toes together too much.  This pressure eventually irritates the nerve/s and you have the awful pain.  I can't walk without wearing the little pad.   He said I could have a cortisone shot, which often helps.  So far, the pad is all I need.  Plus wearing 'dress-up' style shoes only occasionally because they crowd my toes together.
