I'm really sorry If this topic is already posted. I tried keywords but it didn't help. My problem is this. I have always hated drinking water, which with Sjogren's it just makes the situation worse. The other problem is I never get thirsty anymore. I make myself drink stuff but I know I am so dehydrated . Right now I feel like a dried out sponge in the middle of a desert.. Anyone else have this problem if so are there any things out there that can make you get your thirst back? I have googled every variation of lack of thirst trying to get a medical name for it so I can find out more. but Nothing. Loads on Thirst but not lack of thirst. it just takes me to dehydration which is the result not the problem.. :-\
Mudpup, I think that your problem could be
that since we SS are so dry all the time we eventually lose our sense of taste at times,
Thats the only explanation I can conclude to.
If one loses sense of taste , its understandable that we can lack taste.
If I am honest , I would say that I drink purely of habit , rather than by want.

That's interesting, I never thought of that. My taste buds have stayed intact though, don't have a problem with the senses. You would think because we are always dry and dehydrated we would be forever chugging down a drink because because we are so parched..I just don't get that urge :(
Hi Mudpup,
Yes, I'm the same. I never feel thirsty...very dry mouth but no thirst sensation. It was not uncommon for me go all day without drinking anything, until I finally caught on.
I have taught myself to drink lots of fluids first thing in the morning, when taking medications or vitamins, with anything I eat, before I go outdoors in the summer and at bedtime.
I used to have the best "sniffer" in town. But now I often experience phantom smells or smell nothing at all.
My taste buds go on the blink every so often too. However this doesn't prevent me from eating. ::) ::)
I'm assuming that these are all related somehow to Sjogren's?
I am always thirsty and never go anywhere without a bottle or two of water.
Hi Mudpup :)
I drink a lot of tea but I've never liked drinking water. I do, now, quite often sip water but I hold it in my mouth for as long as I can without swallowing. (I do eventually swallow it but I certainly don't drink a lot of it) I don't like sodas or cordials - so I think I'll stick with tea!
Take care - Scottie :)
Mudpup,
I don't like water, either. I rarely actually feel thirsty, although I do drink liquids (just not water.)

AGREE, hate water, don't like drinking it. I don't drink much at all for that matter. As a result UTI's and Bladder infections. For some reason I'm just not thirsty, but I got dry mouth all the time. That's quite interesting and here I thought I was the only one. Please keep us updated if you find anything out.

I don't feel thirsty a lot too, but I know it's important to stay hydrated.
I guess this is another odd Sjogren thing.
I love my 64 oz water bottle. Take it to work every day and usually drain it dry by the time I leave.
Hmmm. I always wondered why I never felt very thirsty through the day, even though supposedly I need more fluids. It does sound like some Sjogren's thing, since a lot of you have the same thing. I do like water, so that's good, but I guess I have to remind myself to drink regularly.
Mudpup,
Can't stand drinking water and rarely feel thirsty, but make up for it by adding a little bit of juice (even orange) to water for some flavor and DRINKING ANYWAY. In addition, I drink at least several glasses of cranberry/pomegranate juice and a couple of cups of tea throughout the day/evening.
You do not want to get into a serious dehydration, because that'll mean the ER.

For some reason my mouth feels dryer (WHILE) drinking water,, I;m not sure if it is or not,, might be the neuropathy,
