my temperature is 96 on the average. is this normal for sjogrens?
I read an article a couple of months ago that described how the 98.6 temperature was arrived at as 'normal' and it was not done very scientifically. According to the author, many people have naturally lower temps.
My normal temp is around 97.
It doesn't worry me and I'm sero negative for Sjogren's.

I have heard this a lot and most people that have Lupus have said that this is normal.I think the same counts for Sjogren.
Hi,
I usually have a temp of 97.4. We are all different, with different metabolic rates. The normal range for body temps is 96 to 99 something( This surprised the middle schoolers I had for science.) just include your normal temp in with medical info, that way medical workers can determine if there is a problem.

Hi
Before blood tests were invented for it - a low basal temperature was an indication of an underactive thyroid. Blood tests for it only came in mid seventies. Maybe its for autoimmune in general - I don't know.
Take care - Scottie :)
I have a usual temp of 97.0 and when I make a reference to SJS, the doctors all laugh at me.
I run low too, but I don't really keep track of it. I know that when I feel like I have a blazing fever and I'm burning up, it's usually around 99.8.

I run low also.

Hi Val,
I have been doing the very same thing---trying to monitor my thyroid levels. I bought a digital basal thermometer, and thought my temps were too low, but then I read about the "proper" way to take basal temperature using a digital thermometer.
You have to hold it in you mouth for 10 whole minutes before you turn it on! That's right. Otherwise, you get an artificially low reading. And you're supposed to take it at about the same time every day, too.
For true basal temp, you're supposed to take your temp before you get out of bed in the morning----even before you sit up. I've been trying, but it's a hassle. I figure I'll do it for 20 days or so and see what the trend is.
So check again, if you've been using a digital, and just putting it in your mouth till it beeps.

You knw, I just realized that I never get a true fever temp. I had pnumonia and even when I had a systemic Strep infection for 7 weeks, I never had a temp over 100 degrees. I use the digital ear thermometer because it's quick and easier on the kids, it's real accurate for them, I can't seeing it being wrong just for me. I know the best and most accurate way to take a temp is rectally, but who wans to do that four times a day to sick kid?
I do not know what it is now but for most of my life 96.8 was my normal temp.
I have a low body temp and I've had it for years. Since I normally measure in the Celcius scale, I did some search on the net, and found out that in Fahrenheit my body temperature is between 95 and 96 F. (35,5 Celcius)
I use an old fashioned temperature measurer, it is not filled with mercury as it is a forbidden substance to use here, but it has a similar substance. I never measure in my mouth, I always use the bottom end. Not comfortable, but the most correct way to measure when being home for me. :)
Most people with or without Sjogrens have temperatures well below 98.6.
