I have seen a lot of posts on costochrondritis....which makes me wonder....given most of you have sicca symptoms....have you had your kidneys checked? Could it be osteomalacia (not osteoporosis)?

If you are ordered postassium, or calcium or Vit D and your acid base balance is off, they do no good.
My symptoms are classic osteomalacia, including fractures and non-union fractures, yet no one has EVER mentioned this to me! My DEXA is normal, which is meaningless! Obviously, with acidosis, all the supplements go down the toilet, literally.
Very interesting post, Inga. I have the rib, back and hip pain and my Vitamin D is low. I will have to mention this to my Rheumy when I go back in January.
Thanks so much for the information.

Hmmmm Inga, now you've got me thinking.... I have all of the above issues along with low vit D levels. I've never had my potassium or calcium levels checked but it sounds like there maybe more investigating that needs to be done by my slew of docs. Thanks so much for bringing this aspect forward so that the rest of us could check into it.
I don't want to make any one paranoid, but the diagnosing stops when we accept what we are told and stop questioning. There is a point when this is fine, but, in my case, they have left too much unsaid and undone.
Here is one more citation. In my case, I have been telling docs of severe bone pain for years....this whole situation has really irritated me.
Anyway, here the other citation and the net is loaded with them.
