Post by: Rayven on October 04, 2010, 07:08:35 AM
Just seeing if you guys have gotten or are planning to get flu shots this year and if anyone has had positive or negative effects from them.

Thanks!

Not a chance.  I won't be getting one EVER if I can help it.
Did ya' see where Baxter got caught putting LIVE Avian Flu into their Swine Flu shots last year?
I don't trust the shots.
And I really dont' want to up my chances of Guillian Burre.

I already got mine. I get a flu shot every year. I feel achy and tired enough without adding the flu to it.

If I need to see my doctore about something else - she'll insist on giving me one but if I don't need to see her I will be left alone. That's what happened the last 4 years at least. Everyone at work has had a horrible flu like cold recently. (Not totally floored so not flu proper) They have all had time off work. I'm the only one who hasn't caught it yet! This is probably tempting fate!

I think my system would fight off the flu too, so I won't be asking for a shot.

Take care - Scottie  :)

heck yes.

I didn't get one last year and I ended up getting the flu.

I don't want to add influenza to my list of problems.

Yes,
I get one every year. So far haven't had reactions or the flu. Because of my other disorder, I can't get the "shingles" vaccine - it's got live virus - not allowed for the other condition.  My Dr. is pretty good they check for allergies before they give any shots or meds.

Hi

I have lung issues and am having mine on the 20th. I had swine flu last year, so am keen to protect myself as much as possible this year.

Oh, and for anyone who remembers the flu epidemic in 1958 - my father died as a result of that outbreak. He was only 24. Remember, flu can kill.

Last year I got both. No problem. Am planning on getting the shot this year as well. No sense encouraging sickness. I have enough to deal with as it is.

Already got my flu shot,   just had a sore area on my arm for about a day.

Normally get the flu shot every year.

Last year had the swine flu  (before any shots were available)  and i don't want to have to live through that again!

I get mine every year. This is the first year a had some side effects. Extreme fatigue, achiness for 2days kind of felt like a many flu.

The same day I also had a Phenmonia inj. It was so painful!! I would scream with the slightest touch. The arm swelled up from the inj site to my elbow. It took several days to get better

I always get a flu shot. I feel bad enough most days having the flu would be like adding insult to injury. If its going to help protect me then theres no question of not getting it.

It was my understanding that all shots like flu have a live vaccine, but I may be wrong.

Thanks for all your replies.  I have gotten it historically because I worked at hotels and came in contact with so many travelers.  And now with my grandfather living with me, I'd gotten one last year to try and keep any flu away from him.  I'd never had a bad reaction but I was curious how everyone else did with the already compromised immune systems.

Sleepy-I am an immunization nurse! The reaction that you got was most likely due to the pneumonia shot!It happens alot. Ofcourse I got my flu shot. Also, many flu vaccines are NOT LIVE-we never give live vaccines to anyone with immune problems-make sure you tell them!
Thanks everyone for all the great advice I get :)

NO!  The one time I got it I got very sick, not going there again.  Also, I have hashimotos (autoimmune thyroiditis) and was recently reading up on this (as my work is trying to make it mandatory  :o) and it said more or less not really recommended/they just don't know and discuss it with your doctor.  I simply refuse!
