Title: I found my twin!!
Post by: eyeamdry on September 23, 2010, 08:29:24 PM
I have an appt tomorrow with my ortho surgeon about knee replacements.  I have one one-half replacement which is 8 years old and is loose, so I'll need a revision which is sneaky words for a new full knee replacement.

I know he'll tell me to get on with exercises probably water exercise.  I went this afternoon so I could tell him "I've started going."  This class only has a few people, really few.  Sometimes you have the teacher to yourself.  Today there was 5 or 6 of us.  A lady in the dressing room and I started talking about having a handicapped sticker, but are ashamed" to use them sometimes.  I said, "imagine people like us having these stickers."  I meant we looked healthy etc.

I said I had a half-knee replacement and that's how I got mine.  She repeated that, she too, had a half-knee replacement.  I've never met another person with a partial knee replacement except for Scottie on this board. We were headed towards the pool and I mentioned I had fibro and Sjogrens and I thought that might have helped me have bad knee joints.  She said "I have both of those also."!!!!!!! I've met lots of ppl with fibro, but Sjogrens is another story.  I usually don't mention I have that.  I was giddy finding my new "friend."  We really didn't get time to compare notes.  She is 3 years younger than me (old) and has had this for 20 years.  Lucy

I hope you exchanged numbers so you can talk more often. It helps to know someone else with the same illnesses that you have.

Lucy,
What a coincidence!  I hope the two of you have other things in common, as well, and you can be friends.

Lucy - bet it took you by surprise when she not only knew about Sjogren's, she has it too!!  I hope you two can form a friendship and encourage each other on your Sjogren's journey.

I hope you had a good app't. with your ortho surgeon today.

I had discovered Sjogren's window decals recently and am going to order a few to put on our vehicles.  Hoping that way, that someone will say something about it - like they have it!  (not that we want them to have Sjogren's, but you know what I mean).  I know my doctors here see other Sjogren's patients, but they can't give me any names due to patient confidentiality.   :(  I would love to meet someone else in the area in person who also has Sjogren's.

P.S.  By the way, does her name happen to be Ethel?   ;D   ;D   ;D

Bucky, in my excitement I don't remember her name, but am sure it's not Ethel.

I will be able to see her at our classes at that time.  An incentive for me to go more often.  Well...I don't want her to get the wrong idea.  I was just floored though.  Nobody around here has Sjs.  Everybody has fibromyalgia.

Re: My appt.  I got a shot in the knee without the implant.  Not cortisone, but something made of chicken.  Hylagen or something.  We are going to watch and wait.  (Sound familiar?)  Doc sort of flip flopped on doing either, then said he would do the right knee that already has a loose half-knee.  That one is not hurting as much.  Winter is coming around here and not the best time to have that stuff done.  Ice and all.

Perhaps I should exercise in water and see how things turn out.
