When should I start noticing improvement after taking a Medrol pack for an allergic reaction to an antibiotic? I started the pills Thursday night and am still scratching like a dog with fleas this morning ??? It's not a pretty sight.......
you should prob add some benedryl or take some zyrtec...

I just got done taking a medrol pack a few days ago and other then not being able to sleep while taking it I felt no different or any improvement in my symptoms that I was taking it for. This is the first time that I felt it was ineffective.
I would think you should have had some relief by now, but I'm not a doc...did your doc order any cremes or anything else in addition to the Medrol Pack?
I would give the office a call and ask about it so you can get some relief.
I would think that you should be starting to notice results by now. Often the results are not the "miracle overnight" thing but steady and slow. I also think that benedryl or some such med would help the itching which is what my hubby took. Check with your doc for sure.
Also, correct me if I am wrong, but I am thinking that the medrol packs come in a couple different strengths. Might need the stronger one. Are you still being exposed to whatever made you itch???? Irish ;D
I was prescribed a ten day RX of Macrobid on 8/23 for a UTI. My rash didn't even develop until last Sunday, September 5th, several days after completeing the Macrobid. I've never taken the med before. When the doctor prescribed it (electronically) a "warning" popped up indicating that it might not interact well with one of my other meds, but she prescribed it anyway (note: it wasn't my regular doctor--he was booked for the day).
When I saw my rheumy on Thursday, she said it's not uncommon to have a delayed allergic reaction to antibiotics and that my rash did not have the appearance of anything autoimmune related. She was confident that it was related to the antibiotics as that was the most recent "new" med that I had taken.
I am also taking Benadryl at night and taking Aveeno baths for relief. I have applied cortisone ointment for relief. The Medrol pack is a 21 tablet blister pack-4 mg. The rheumy also wrote it with one refill.
That is interesting. When I have taken a Medrol pack it is a 6 day affair starting with 6 mgm and decreasing one mgm every day til done.
You are on a longer dosing schedule because you have had such a bad rash and also because you were on the one month of drugs. I don't know the half life of the drug but it probably will take a while to get it out of your system.
I took a ton of macrodantin back in the 70's and 80's when I was having so much trouble with my bladder. I just read up on it again in my nurses drug book and it sure seems like the information in the book is more than it used to be. When I was working and we gave it to the elderly we had a few who ended up getting pneumonia and it was thuoght that the macrodantin might have been the cause.
Life is sure complicated when we take all this medication. You will probably end up getting a refill unless you have a sudden improvement. Good luck. Irisih ;D
My daughter had an allergic reaction to something that caused her eyes to swell like cyclops. The doctor started her on a 6 day medrol tapering pack and within a couple of days her eyes had returned to a complete normal state. It was almost miraculous going from eyes almost swollen shut to perfectly normal in a few days.
Hope you get some relief soon. But, it does seem that if it was an allergic reaction you would have some signs of relief.
