I awoke with a rash on Sunday that has been steadily getting worse. I am not taking any new meds. I wasn't in the sun over the long weekend. It is raised, itches and started below my knees and has now worked it's way up to my hairline. It's not one big red blob, but small red pin heads with white "thingies" around them--when they haven't been scratched for a while anyway.
I had chicken pox when I was a youngin' (bad enough for four kids according to my mom).
I have never had any type of allergies to any foods/molds/dust/etc. I haven't changed detergents/soaps. It doesn't look like contact dermatitis or eczema.
Any wild guesses?
Purpura? I say call the doc and have them fit you in TODAY!
If it's on one side of your body, could it be shingles?

At first guess I would say it is a histamine reaction. Second guess would be German Measles. You really need to go see your doctor. It could be a sign of something serious. I hope its not another gift from Sjogren's. Hope you get your answers soon and feel better.

Went to my PCP and he told me to me to take Benadryl for itchiness and rx'd Doxycycline because he said it looks like the rash is near the hair follicles and looks like they may be infected. And what would cause that rash doctor?
So, I don't really know what's going on.
I see my rheumy on Thursday, so I'll pick her brain. BTW, I know it's not shingles-it's equal opportunity and attacking both sides of my bod with a vengeance!
Gee I just hope you find out soon what it is...
It's now the fifth day of this itchy nonsense. I feel like a dog with fleas!
I see my rheumy at 4:00 and am hopeful that she'll have something useful to offer like......WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON!
The rash has worked it's way up to my scalp, covers my backside and breasts. The only thing not afflicted is my face--knock on wood.
let us know what rheumy says about this horrible rash please
I would be seeing a dermatologist before I saw my rheumy for any type of rash. You may wish to consider doing this, if you want to get to the bottom of what's causing the issue. Then if its autoimmune related, your Rheumy could take it from there. My Dermatologist and Rheumy work hand in hand on my skin issues.
This sounds awful!! I hope someone can figure it out soon and give you some kind of relief. Please keep us posted.

Saw my rheumy yesterday who said it's not AI related, but looked like an allergic reaction to an antibiotic. Told her I had taken Microbid for a UTI a couple weeks prior. She gave me a Medrol (?) pack--first time I've ever used one. I hope the high dose steroids start working soon because I've got these welts/bumps, whathaveyou all over and they itch like mad (still). I have bruises on my right thigh that I believe are from rubbing (in lieu of itching).
At least you know what it is now and hoping the treatments settles it down fast for you
