Hi . . I know many of us here on the forum have animals and I thought it would be fun to post some of the entertaining, silly, funny things our animals get into.
We have an 11 wk. old kitten named TJ that is so funny. A couple weeks ago we had TJ's mother, Spooky, "fixed". (these are outdoor cats) Well, I brought a cage inside and had Spooky and TJ stay indoors overnight the eve of Spooky's surgery.
They were inside just the one night. (The only other time TJ has been indoors was the first two weeks after he was born.)
I, of course, had a kitty litter pan inside the cage. I'm not sure if TJ thought this was his personal play yard or what, but he had fun in it! ::)
After they spent the night indoors, I took the cage back out on the porch (it will eventually end up in the shed when mowing is done). I cleaned out the kitty pan but left it in the mud room until I put it in a bag and take this to the shed too.
Usually, at some point in the day, the cats will come inside for a bit - either to eat or just visit. :D Well, ever since the night TJ spent inside, whenever he comes inside the house he makes a beeline straight to the litter pan. He runs so fast he goes sliding around the corner in the kitchen and practically wipes out in the process. He cracks us up. EVERY single time he comes in he heads there and does "his business". I certainly hope he isn't holding it until he comes in as there are many, many hours in-between visits indoors!
I'm almost afraid to see what will happen when I take this litter pan to the shed and he comes tearing in the house lickety split and finds NO litter pan there . . . he better not go on my carpet!! :o
Bucky
:) Bucky, Our Sweet Bucky, Can see by time of post, you are up late making our Sjoggie World a better place. I certainly appreciate your humor.
I have laughed at your cat post until I'm SILLY!!!! ;D
My three 10-year old cats (sisters) are all settled in for the night in our basement as we heard a siren in the distance while sitting in the swing on the front porch.
The siren sets off all the coyotes on our side of the mountain!
The cats run over each other to get in the door. No need for my counting threat of 5-4-3-2-1 to close the door and leave them out for the night!!
Nighty night, ALL...
My doxie will howl at our fire siren too,,, he runs out the sliding glass door onto teh deck and just sits there howling and howling till its done,, and he still does it despite the time it went off and he never saw the door was closed,, he kinda howled then too,, but it was more of a hurt howl,,,then he wants held like a baby for a hour,,, during the day it jsut me and him,, and he cons me at least 4 times a day,, stnads in front of me,, gets on his hind legs and begs to go out,,, half the time its just to go nebbing around the yard,, but then theres the off chance he has to go to the bathroom,, drives me nuts,, and when the boys and my wife come home,, I tell them,, now its up to you guys to take him out all night,, I did my shift
Joy & Navydad . . . howling animals . . hmmm, maybe you should record a CD!! :D
How do your animals respond to fireworks or loud noises like that (other than the sirens)? It must be something about the decimal of sound that hurts their ears. I agree, even for us humans, they're too loud! :o
Many times when I lived in Ohio there would be hot air balloons sailing past the house. The noise from the burner must have bothered the animals as all the neighborhood dogs would be barking.
One of the times I rode IN a hot air balloon, when we got to a pasture with cows or horses, the pilot would talk to them so they wouldn't stampede. I saw a dog chained dragging a cinder block around the back yard as we passed over.
Animals and babies and toddlers are all the same . . . for the most part, they liked to be held and have attention. When they look at you with those sweet little innocent faces, how can you resist? ;D They also know how to push our buttons too! I must say, they seem to have US trained well . . . we keep taking them in and out, in and out. LOL
Bucky
Thanks for starting this thread Bucky.
One night I woke up to my wife's laughter. I asked her what was so funny at 3am? Well it turns out, my wife's, Maltese, Anastasia has an interesting habit. Anastasia sleeps In the bed with us. When I start snoring and it keeping her awake, she will jump up on me and bounce her front legs on my chest until I stop snoring. Then she'll go back to the end of the bed and go back to sleep. My wife saw her do that several times before realized what Anastasia was doing. Thus the 3am laughter.

Please, please send your doggie here to teach my Shih Tzu how to do that. Alas, I have to do that myelf to get my husband to stop.

This may not go with the topic, but I have to tell you this.
Iwas driving to work one day, when I saw this little boy, aged about 7 or 8, walking to the road junction from a residential street. In front of him was a little dog with his leash trailing. The little boy must have called the dog, as the dog sat down at the kerb, waiting for the little boy to catch up. When he did, the boy bent down, picked up the leash, and kissed his little dog on the nose. Such a reward, for remembering his Green Cross Code.
It made my day, and made me think that the little boy obviously gets rewarded with kisses, rather than material things.
Kathyx
Kathyx - awe . . how sweet of that little boy and his dog. Thankfully, his dog is well trained to stop and wait.
Seeker - I don't know, if I was Anastasia, I would probably bite your toes if you kept me up snoring!! Heavens knows I could black and blue my hubby from hitting him to roll over and quit snoring!! ::)
We went away for an overnight trip this weekend. Got home last night - Spooky and TJ are sitting on the porch waiting to greet us. We open the side door to start carrying in our overnight bag, etc. In runs TJ . . yep, a beeline right to the kitty pan!! I don't know, I'm thinking I need to keep that pan inside now forever instead of taking it to the shed, like I planned to do!! ::)

Sometimes I feel like just a piece of furniture
Two of my cats will get to chasing each other and run through the house like the Hounds of Hades are after then. When they do that, I have been sitting in the recliner only to have Womp -one cat jumping over me and then Womp here comes the other. Just 1/2 the time they each land on my lap. I generally change chairs then. LOL
Love your little "snore buster". Cheaper than the breath rite strip and a lot more entertaining. ;) :D
Oh I have had so many animals and so many stories...I wouldn't know where to begin. Over the years they have all brought me so much joy and so many smiles (and yes...there were also times that tried my nerves too...lol).
I do love the story of Anastasia though....that made me laugh and I could just picture her trying to stop your snoring Seeker! Too funny!
I like reading this thread! Thanks for starting it Bucky!
Lynnmarie . . . feel free to tell us your animal stories any time . . we'll be here. ;D

Howdy, let me tell you about my mother's cat. He is white with two different colored eyes. Most cats just love catnip. He hates its. What gets him going is peppermint. Put a drop of peppermint oil on one of his toys. You will have all day entertainment.
The story about Cat (that's his name) I like the most, is when he came home from the vets. He just had his front claws remove. Cat was still under anesthesia and was sleeping it off. So we put him in the middle of the living room floor. While Cat was in la la land, my mother removed all the scratch protection off the furniture.
Cat woke up about a 1/2 hr. later. He stood up looked around and shook his head. He must of thought he was in cat heaven. No scratch protection on the furniture. Immediately, he go's over to the couch and starts to claw it. Nothing happened. Cat stares (huh?) He tries again. Nothing happened. He then looks at his paws and shakes them. It was like he was saying, I know there was claws in there some where.
To add to his woes he went in to the dinning room to see what my mom was doing. He took a running leap to jump up on the table and he slid flying off the table. You see he did not realize that he had lost his brakes. Cat was not having a good day:)

I wish I had the video camera out today watching Spooky and TJ out the window.
Spooky had brought a chipmunk to the house and they were both playing with it in the driveway. Flip it up in the air - taking turns. Spooky did that for a little bit, then laid down in the driveway on her side. TJ goes over, copies what his mother did flipping the chipmunk and then he goes over and lays down in the driveway on his side. Monkey see, monkey do!! ::)
Later in the day, I walked down our long driveway to get the mail. Come back to the house and Spooky is waiting for me in the driveway. I bend down to pet her and talk to her. Up runs TJ - he wants to be petted too. Spooky lays down in the driveway and I pet her tummy. TJ looks at me, then lays down in the driveway next to his mom, then looks at me again as if to say, "hey, rub my tummy too!" (which I did). ;D
Ever since Spooky got "fixed" she seems to be more playful. She almost acts like she did when she was a kitten four years ago. Is this common when female cats get fixed? It's been fun watching Spooky and TJ "playing" together. They wrestle, chase each other, run up the tree, etc.
Bucky
W-E-L-L! Here's my cat update, Bucky! Mentioned AGE in another post- I highjacked- from Lynnmarie to you. :(
My three, 10-year old sister cats are doing a whole lot a shade tree farming with me... You know, cats and I sit under a shade tree and watch the birds, butterflies and even squirrels without ever moving!
CONSERVING ENERGY... I'm thinking GREEN!!! ::)
How come you to name your cat Spooky? And, what does TJ stand for?
newjoy... same ole' Joy! ;)
*It's evident by number of times I have modified this Post that it's nap time for me! Catch you later! :-[
Companion animals are the BEST, aren't they?
My Max will knock over any glass but only on certain counters. Who knows why. I have to have bottled water beside my bed at night cause a glass will end on the floor.
Oh and he wants to get in the shower with me, and has fallen in the bath more than once trying to get closer and closer to the water.
We have to put his water dish on a overturned bucket, otherwise he will turn the dish over onto the floor. He is manic about water for some reason.
Mia is much older and calmer. She likes to sit on laps, but Max only wants to be petted intensely, no laps.
He sleeps between us and snores.
Mia is very quiet and lady like.
But she likes food from the table, and I don't feed her but my husband does, then she comes to ME to beg. Go figure.
They are adorable and great company.
I can't imagine life without at least one cat, and I know many people feel the same and more about dogs.
Kisses

My family once had an indoor/outdoor cat names Rusty. I was woken up at 2am in the morning with hearing my mother go "ah, ah, ah" soo I come downstairs to wee what is wrong. She couldn't get a word out just pointed.
I seems she let the cat in and he decided to bring his toy in too. A baby bunny. Mom is trying to catch the cat, the cat is trying to catch the bunny and the bunny is trying to find a hiding place. Course none of them appreciated me laughing my head off. ;) :D I did finally get the bunny in a big coffee can and let him back outside.
BUT this happened two other times until my mother figured out to check the cat's mouth PRIOR to letting him in the house. No more 2am wake ups but the cat wasn't very appreciative. ::)
NewJoy - Spooky got her name because she was born around Halloween, plus . . she is easily spooked by things. If my hubby or son move too quickly - she's gone in a flash! One time I surprised her in the backyard and she went running for the woods until I called her name, and then she put the brakes on, turned around and came running to me! ;D
TJ got his name because he is an identical twin to his brother. I had named the twins Tom and Jerry. My friend was here visiting in August - the day she left, one of the twins disappeared. :( Since the boys are identical, they were hard to tell apart. So, I'm not sure which twin I have . . . Tom or Jerry. So, I renamed the kitten TJ which covers both names. :D
Pisces24 - good thing Rusty only brought in a bunny and not a snake!! :o

I got a new dog this summer and this dog and my cat can rough-house for hours. I took this video of them one day and posted it on youtube. It doesn't really show how they can sometimes go at it. The dog will grab the cat by the neck and drag it across the room and the cat loves it and comes back for more.

Billydude, This truly is amazing for this country 'girl' to watch! ;D Thanks for sharing another PART of our pet world!
Around here when a dog barks or one is seen on the horizon, our 3 cats head for the garage cat door, double time!! :o
Who's the dog spectator in the background? What does this dog do when all this is going on? ???
One more question, is the cat's front paws declawed? ;) Our three sister, farm cats like to choose a column in my little fenced in Garden of Joy at dusk and watch for the neighboring farm male cat to come and visit. He comes every few nights to check on 'his girls!'
Thank goodness, they are all spayed. :D Or, heaven knows how may kitties we would have by now.
When my Father in law, was dieing of Cancer, Anastasia, my wife's Maltese, would spend hours laying next to him. It was a great comfort to dad to have her there. After dad's death, my wife was cleaning out his closet. She put a stack of his clothes by the washing machine and then went back to get another stack. When she came back out there was Anastasia laying on top of dad's clothes. Anastasia missed Grandpa. The clothes were a reminder of him. My wife did not have the heart to move her.
Seeker
NewHorizons....no the cat is not declawed. They don't put their claws out when they are playing. My other dog plays with the dog but not so much with the cat.
We looked out the living room window today and there are 16 wild turkeys following TJ, our cat. TJ runs to one end of the porch, the turkeys follow him. He runs to the other end of the porch, they follow him. TJ goes around back into the woods - the turkeys follow him.
Finally, TJ just lay down in the woods and the turkeys gave up and went out into the soybean field out front. This isn't the first time the turkeys have pestered TJ. TJ is only five months old, so he is probably wondering why these big birds keep following him. ::)
It was so funny to watch this play out with TJ and the turkeys.
I bet the turkeys are just thankful they are still roaming around free and weren't somebodies meal for Thanksgiving!! These are all female turkeys, I haven't seen any of the Tom Turkeys lately.
I can't wait to see what TJ thinks of snow!! :o
Bucky
Oh Bucky, that is so great! TJ and the turkeys! ;D Got any pictures?
About the not putting out their claws when playing, someone forgot to tell the furball that I have. :)

We have a 5 year old german shephard boy. He has many names that go along with all his personalities -- there is Hunter -- Ed -- Fang Lee Chew .
He has a kitty friend next door on one side of the fence . The kitty will slip it's paw under the fence and stratigically lure Hunters nose to that site m then BOOM -SWAT - Kitty will bat Hunter on the nose and race dwon the other end of the fence and repeat the same action and hunter loves this..it is comical to watch. When i found he had rabbits to play with living on the other side of the fence, the comedy increased daily -- that is when I seriously considered changing Hunters name to *Hef* -- if he want chasing bunnies he was chasing kitties ---it was hard to keep up to him. :)
Now that I've been working longer hours, when I get home I have to change out of my work clothes PRIOR to sitting down. The minute I sit down I get one or two cats on my lap. They seem to want to hold me down so I don't leave the house again.
I have an alarm clock for work that wakes me to music. I put it on the other side of the bedroom so I have to get up to turn it off. Well if I don't turn it off within a minute or two, my cat Jiggs will jump up by the radio and knock it off. I already got one broken in the past.
Guess he doesn't like the music? ;) :D
Hi Pisces,
Maybe Jiggs is a classical kind of kittie? ;) :D

I have a cat who loves coffee especially Tim Horton's (available in Canada) She gets her head right in the cup and licks it up. Thankfully she doesn't have a smoke with that.
:) :D ;D :) :D ;D :) :D ;D :) :D ;D :) :D ;D :) :D ;D
Please dont tell me they make Tim Hortons coffee out of your cat litter and ship it to Calgary,,
My Doxie hates the winter,, runs out,,, pees on Mrs. Clauses skirt and runs back in,, dont try to stop a dog in midstream,, you get it all over you,, when he walks on the snow,, he acts like its broekn glass,, runs back in and curls up in front of the electric heater,, I have no clue how he can stand that heat,, his face gets right up against it
Cute animal stories - thanks everyone for sharing.
As you all know, I have two cats . . Spooky and her son, TJ. So, most every time I post on this thread it will be about those two . . . yeah know, "it's all about them". ::)
We have this plastic airtight pet food container with locking lid that we store the cat food in. It comes on wheels and will hold a 16 lb. bag of dry food. Well, Mr. TJ, our ever curious kitten (how long are they considered kittens? He's six months old.) knows that when I get their food ready for them, that I keep going to this plastic container. He decides he wants to check it out himself. So, up he jumps INTO the container! :o He proceeds. to help himself to the mass buffet of dry cat food. I call him - he looks up at me as if to say, "what? I'm eating!" Silly cat!!
Now - every time he comes in the house (and they usually only come in when they sneak into the garage when the vehicles are coming in or out and they "wait" on the step and follow us into the house) Mr. TJ will follow me to the plastic container, and when I open the lid, he'll stand on his hind legs with his front paws on the container and watch me as I get their food ready. (TJ's a big kitten . . he's the same size, if not bigger than Spooky!!)
If I could only teach him how to unlatch the lid, get a cup full of food and put it in their dish without him spilling it everywhere! :D
Bucky
Oh Bucky, I have the cat for you! ;) :D He's talented for sure, but boy, he sure can get into things (mainly any card board boxes that contains his food; have to empty them into a plastic container as soon as I bring it home to keep down his consumption of paper products. Tough on the tummy don't ya know? :D).
Nah, I can't part with the small "grizzly", as he's become something of a legend at the vets as well (personally I don't think anyone can afford the liability ;) :D). I had him at the vets the other day for a physical (he's getting older), and they went to take some blood, and then all holy heck broke out. All of the sudden you hear screaming (human), and then the cat is just going nuts hissing, screeching, and I don't want to know what else, and he not taking any prisoners!
Finally it gets really quiet and as everyone in the waiting area stared toward the area where they do the testing, and a tech shortly brings out the big guy in his carrier. Boy was that fur ball in a fowl mood! I felt sorry for the techs as one of them did lose some blood and will not work with the "grizzly" any longer. They will only deal with him if they have those big thick gloves on (he doesn't mess with the vets, just the techs). Aaahhhh, a day in the life of.... ;D
Take care of yourselves -

Bucky,
I think I have been on the forum for a couple years now, and never have posted on the social board. This is a good topic as animals are so important in our emotional well being. I don't know what I would do without my several animals to keep me going.
I have one very unique cat (just barely a year old now) named Mac. He came home to our family on Xmas Eve last year. I bought several toys for him, but he only wanted these small gray rabbit fur covered mice. The package has white ones too but he has nothing to do with the white ones. The gray ones he carries around in his mouth from room to room and plays with them ALL the time. The funny part is what he does when he done playing. He puts them in his food bowl. I kid you not. He keeps them there until the next time he wants to play.
My husband thinks he's carrying them there to feed them...that Mac thinks they are his babies. He has put them in the water bowl as well (just for a few minutes, then scoops them out), so maybe he's right. Anyway, every night when Mac goes to bed, he puts any mice laying around in the food bowl for the night. He loves the mice soooo much. They get worn out, so I have to buy news one frequently. Again the pack comes with both white and gray mice. I have a bunch of white ones that have never been touched, and little grays ones either around the house or in the food bowl.
Cats can be such a riot. No two are alike.
Well, we have a 7 yr old Border collie, a 4 yr old Shih Tzu, a 2 1/2 yr old Schnorkie, and a 6 month old Chi mix. They are all crazy. LOL BUT, our Border is the sweetetst...untill she gets out the front door to herd cars. It's scary but funny to watch. She runs in front of one, barking the whole time, then dodges around to the other side, ect..back and forth.....huge mechanical sheep. We also have 2 cats and a Green Cheeked Conure. Our oldest cat is almost 10 and will jump and hang on to the doorknob until you open the door for him...hehehe
I thought about starting a new thread since this one was started many, many months ago - but, I love the stories everyone has posted on this thread, I wanted to continue it and hopefully, some of our "newbies" would join in too. :D
Today, is February 2nd. I live in the the Midwest and we were slammed yesterday with a huge snowstorm. I'm not even sure how much snow we got - since it's drifted, but let's just suffice it to say . . A LOT (almost, if not more than 2 feet)!!
As you have read in this thread before, I have two outdoor cats . . . Spooky - who is a marble colored Calico, and her son, TJ, who was born in June 2010. Both cats came in for a while last night to eat inside, then they wanted to go back outside. They have a "cat house" (small dog igloo type house) on the front porch they stay in, or they have several spots in the woods that they hunker down in at times.
The cats stayed outside last night. This morning I went to feed them and had them come inside for a while.
In our shed, we have a cat cage and litter pan that we use on occasion if the cats stay inside when the weather dips well below zero. With the predicted storm we had the last several days, I meant to bring that inside - at least to put it in the garage in case we kept the cats inside. But . . . I didn't. :( Now, it would be difficult to get out there to the shed.
Since I was going to leave the "kids" inside for a while today, I needed to have a litter pan inside the house (recently, on one of their indoor visits, one of the little darlings pooped in the hallway - which I found when I headed to bed . . . ewwwwww). So, I devised my own litter pan for them using a computer paper lid box. I took the box and put it inside a white garbage bag and then filled it with kitty litter. Then, I discovered the pooper scooper was out in the shed too. ::) Again, I devised my own version . . . a plastic fork! :D
I had no sooner assembled all this and the kids were using it. I wonder if they were "holding" it because of the snow outside?! I worried whether TJ would remember how to use the litter pan . . . he remembered! ;D
Just like children . . when the two of the cats are inside and are quiet, it makes me come see what they're getting into. Thankfully, they were just checking everything out inside - sniffing everything. We close the bedroom doors when they're inside as we don't want them in the bedrooms to leave any little "presents". ::)
A little while later, I was sitting at the computer and TJ is reaching up on a chair swatting at the ornaments on a little 2 ft. Christmas tree I still have sitting in the dining room. Ut oh . . . no TJ, leave the tree alone. Yeah right, like he's going to listen . . . he jumps up on the tree and starts batting at the bow on top of the tree. I had to intervene and move the tree up to higher ground. He looks at me as if to say, "hey, why did you take my toy away from me?". Earlier, I had already pulled out a bunch of his toys he had when he was younger for him to play with and they were sitting on the carpet in the living room.
Unfortunately, both my son and I get really stuffed up when the cats are inside, so they don't stay inside very long.
Hope you've enjoyed your warm meal and dry kitty pan . . time to head back outside.
Never a dull moment with animals.
Bucky
I have a grey male cat named Jiggs who sasses me back whenever I don't let him do something.
And if he wants something, I get sassed for that too. He loooves the snow (indoor cat only) so I brough in a pan of snow for hime to play with today. Heck there is enough of it outside!.
I call him the baby as he'll meow when he wants me to play with him cause he is bored. Sooo spoiled.
My Abby (beagle) is the funniest thing. I have these baskets that I use when I pull the clothes out of the hampers to sort the clothes by colors, textures, etc. Well I have to make sure that I am always close to those baskets when there are clothes in them because if I don't watch her, she will pull a few clothes out of each basket, make a pile and rustle it up. While she is rustling it up, she makes little growling noises and gets all into it. When she finally gets it the way she wants it, she plops on the clothes and she goes to sleep on about 10 different items of clothes (a little of each of mine, my husband's, and my son's). Granted she has like 3 different doggie beds in the house.
