Title: Interesting website---aurora borealis
Post by: irish on August 03, 2010, 10:02:26 PM
I just found out about this site today. I heard about it on the radio and it is rather interesting. Many of you may enjoy this.

http://www.spaceweather.com

The conversation on the radio show was about the aurora borealis that was to be visible in our area over the next several nights. This precipitated many calls to this talk show with comments about the borealis and this website was mentioned. I checked it and there is a lot of info on there and those interested in this type of thing will find it interesting. Good pictures.

One gal called into the show and said that 8 years ago in Nov the borealis was awesome beyond description in the twin cities in Minnesota. She took a lawn chair and put on her winter coat and sat out in the back yard and enjoyed the show. Many of the callers said that they had relatives in Nebraska and other states further south that were able to enjoy the borealis from time to time. Tonight is so cloudy that I doubt I will see anything.

I would like to hear if any of you are able to see the borealis. I have seen them several times but only little blips of light. Irish ;D

Sadly, I've never seen them in person, but my son, his g/f and my nephew live in northern Alberta/British Columbia and they have sent me some incredible pictures of them..I guess it's their reward for living so far north, while mine, for staying in the Maritimes, is the glorious change of seasons and the awesome beauty of the sea.

Hi Irish  :)

I LOVE Northern Lights. Have been lucky enough to see them a few times mostly in the north of Scotland. The best ones were seen from the St Lawrence Seaway though when I was on a ship with hubby.

Nice site.

Take care - Scottie  :)

I wish we were able to see them here in Pa,, but I dont think there going to be that far south,,, its interesting on what causes these things,, the solar storms coming from the sun messing with the magnetic fields around the earth,, really strong ones can take out electronics,, it just frys circuit boards,,, amazingly the only things really not affected are the old tube type things,, like TV, s,,, for you younger people,, yes we had to go to the hardware store and buy a new tube if it didnt (light) up when you turned the tv on,, by hand,, no remote,,, and I recall many days going out int heyard turning the antenna till my dad hollered out the window,, ok, thats good enough
