Title: Wanted to let my old friends know my good news
Post by: Poochie on July 28, 2010, 11:14:35 PM
Hi everyone.  I know I haven't been here lately but I've been a bit busy.  I've been knitting full time and selling my things at our local farm market.  Didn't realize there was such a market for hand knit items anymore.  Boy, was I wrong.

Anyway, I saw my rheumy a couple weeks ago and he surprised me to no end with the news he had been saving for me.  For the past 2 blood tests (6 months apart) my Sjogren's had shown no signs.  He told me that after a year with this type of blood work, I am positively in REMISSION.  I was so excited and happy to hear this.  I asked him if this meant it was gone, he said "No, just hiding for now".  However, the damage it did to my system over the 35 -40 yrs. is not in remission, nor will it ever be.

I won't be greedy though, this is the best news and I'll be happy with it.  "Fred" and I are still dancing around, but I can handle "him".  lol   ;D

I pray that all of you will hear this news one day soon.  Take care my friends and hang in there.  It can go away.

Hugs, Love and God Bless,
Pooh

Hey Pooh!!  :)

Good to see you!

That's wonderful news. I hope SjS doesn't come out of hiding again. You deserve a break. Glad your knitting is going well.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Poochie

Thank you for sharing your good news. It certainly gives me hope for the future. Can't believe you have time to sell your knitting. I thought all those lovely grandies would keep your needles clicking!

Lovely to see you.

Pooh,

It's nice to hear from you - I've wondered where you've been.  Wonderful news about your remission.   ;D  I hope it has taken a one-way ticket to somewhere other than where you are!!

Handmade knitting, crocheting, quilting, or sewing is always the best.  I have this handmade toaster cover that a friend made and I think of that friend each day as I see my toaster sitting on the kitchen counter.   When you know the person who put their talents into something made with their own hands - it means a lot.   ;D

Take care Pooh and stop in once in a while and let us know how you're doing.  Hope all the hot summer weather isn't bothering you.  Remember way back a few months ago when you were buried under all that snow?  Did it ever melt??  LOL   ::)

Hugs,
Bucky

Wow, Pooh:

I didn't think Sjogren's COULD go into remission.

This is what it says on Wikipedia:

Sj?gren's can damage vital organs of the body with symptoms that may plateau or worsen, but the disease does not go into remission as with other autoimmune diseases.

So I'm not only overjoyed for you, but completely shocked by the news that remission is possible!

Here is a quote from an NIH site:

Sj?gren's syndrome can damage vital organs of the body with symptoms that may remain stable, worsen, or go into remission.

I had never Googled Sjogren's and Remission!

And this is from The Arthritis Foundation:

While it is not unheard of that Sj?gren?s symptoms can go into remission, it is rare. Often they will stabilize with medications. Without treatments, they often worsen. However, there is hope that sometimes the symptoms of this condition will go away at least temporarily. As with any autoimmune condition, though, even if it does go into remission, it can always come back, at any given time.

So I guess you are one of the very lucky few Pooh!   And hold out hope for all of us.  I'm not sure, since I've never been sero positive, what it means for me in terms of remission.  But I'm definitely happy for YOU and hopeful for myself and all of us.

Keep us posted.

Kisses

Carolina  (Elaine)

Thank you all for all the kind and caring words.  I wish the remission meant no more pain, but I'm afraid it doesn't.  It just means that that it's not showing up in my blood work.  The joints and muscles and internal organs that it attacked are still in the same condition as they always have been.  Especially my leg muscles, hip and knee joints, and the heart problems.

I've just been through a horribly painful month of a Osteoarthritis flare that has had me just about screaming for mercy.  I think mainly it's been the weather because now that the weather has settled down, so has the OA.

I have missed you all so very much.  It doesn't seem the same since I resigned and went back to being just me.  I still feel like a deserter but I just felt it was time to let someone else take over.

I hope this weather stays around for a while.  Without the A/C on my eyes aren't as dry and I don't have to wear a sweater.  lol  Hubby keeps us quite cool. :D  No complaints though, it's really been hot and humid here in PA.

Yes, Bucky the snow has finally melted and left.  I think about all that white stuff when I look out the window at the yard.  It was so long before we saw it. lol  Spring seemed a long time coming.

Well, I guess I'll try to get some sleep now.  It's after 2 a.m. and the little dog down across the road has finally stopped it's yapping.  One of these days............................................................I'm gonna catch him and pull that yapper out.  :D  He really is precious, but not at this time of night.

Take care all and I'll try to come in now and then more.

Hugs, and God Bless, Pooh

Oh my gosh POOH!!!!!

I'm so happy to hear that you're doing much better!!  And I hope that Fred and the OA disappears permanently as well!

Call me stodgy, but I love "homemade" items best as I think they are so much more "personal" than a store bought one.

Take care of yourself lady!

Oh Pooh, I have surely missed you, my friend. It is good to hear that in spite of your pain and ever present owies you are continuing to do something that sounds like almost a second career. I bet you knitted and crocheted the blood work back to normal.

I am still visiting here a lot, I imagine if Lucy could interjet that the moment she would tell me to scrub my kitchen floor before I start posting. That is a joke Lucy!!!!!!

Oh, Pooh, Hubby put the last kitchen cupboard doors on yesterday. It only took 4 years to get that done. Honestly, we would have had it done sooner but we had to take time to get sick. Really is a corker---they are not done as well as we would have done them years ago, but darned if we didn't live long enough to get them done.

It is still hot here---a little cooler today but still hot and humid. Hubby is mowing today and I am praying. The last time he mowed on June 7th he proceeded to have a stroke after supper. He was pretty dehydrated when they did blood work at the ER so I am on him constantly about fluuid intake.

I just got an email from someone with this little ditty. I laughed so hard I almost wet my pants.

In the year 2029 the Japanese will have invented a camera that is so fast it can take a picture of a woman with her mouth shut!!!

Have a good day. Irish ;D

Gee wilikers Irish, that is too funny!!!!  My goodness, watch the stock of the camera manufacture go through the roof soon! :D

Tell hubby to behave himself, or there'll be heck to pay from a mod with a serious attitude, okay? ;)

Stay cool lady -

Patze

So sorry to hear that you've had a month of such pain.  Did anything help?

Thinking of you  and sending lots of love - Chickpea

ps you're not a 'deserter'!  You made me so welcome when I first joined SjS World, and I know you've made a difference to so many of us here.  We're just delighted when you drop by and share your news.

Pooh, I have been thinking a bit about you and how you were.  Funny thing, it's 4.46 am and I can't sleep and I never look down HERE and I see you and all your wonderful news, even though it might not be wonderful, but only good.  I better get to bed before my hubby gets up for the day and I haven't been to sleep.  Hope we see you pop in here and there. Lucy
