I am one of the unlucky people who has rosacea. It seems to get worse when in a flare. I saw several posts on the board about it. Has a poll been done to ask how many people have it? I've used prescription and OTC ointment and had laser treatments done, and nothing seems to help. Of course I avoid sun exposure as it gets much worse, and the rest of my body will break out in a rash. Does anyone have any other suggestions for treatment?
I too suffer from Rosacea as well as primary severe Sjs. I use a prescription cream on my face twice daily, it is called Metro-gel or Metro-cream. When I get a bad rosacea flare rash, I take a oral prescription of Erythromiacin (sp?) and I use a SPF 60 sun screen as well as avoid spicy foods and alcohol. I also stay away from hot baths which seem to be another trigger for me. Sometimes drinking a hot beverage can also be a trigger. I kept a food/habits diary for a couple of months which helped me determine which things were triggering my flares and now I am able to avoid them. So sorry that you're experiencing this.
I was dx with Sjs Dec 08 and started getting "flushed" that next spring. I was dx with Rosacea this past winter and use the Metrogel. I just learned that Rosacea is an autoimmune condition.
Tedebear:
I guess I still have rosacea but it hasn't flared in several years. I started noticing the things that irritated it. (as you probably know, it's a chronic inflammatory condition) I stopped using soap on my face and switched to a good herbal cleanser. I also stay out of the sun and away from heat. Also, NO alcohol - darn, I really like margaritas. Of course a fever or a flare can make it crop back up again, but mostly it's gone now. I'm really fair and can't use sunscreen or the red light appears on my face. I also use Imsomer's Australian harvest cleanser once a week to really clean things out and a super moisturizer like Elizabeth Grant bio-collosis or Skinn brand products. I'll be 60 in August and people say I look like I'm in my late forties or so. Must be doing something right! Good luck with it. :)
